Im no longer restoring cars, pulling engines, fixing a mower, etc. But I do maintain a small shop in my garage where I can fabricate and, mostly, repair items. This set is just the thing I needed. I wouldnt expect them to hold up to every day use in a machine shop but, then again, they are priced for the amateur. I used one tap and one die so far with great success.

The taps and dies seem good and strong and high quality. It missed the 5 star review because the case doesnt hold the items. If you open it upside down they fall all over which is not pleasant. Only used one tap so far and is did good.

I got the more expensive one with the coating on the tools and it works wonders! Based on all the reviews I’ve seen the base kit sucks, you want to spend the extra money on the coating if you go with this kit. I love it!

I bought this tap and die set to fix some cheap knobs I bought for a 3d printer. Considering I was planning on cutting some aluminum, I wasnt needing a top of the line kit. As expected, this tap re-cut the threads on the aluminum knob without any issues. The thread was clean and smooth. Great! Exactly what I was hoping for. Then I had an issue with a play structure I was assembling. As luck would have it, there was a really messed up bolt, and no spares in the kit. I went straight to my new tap and die kit to see if there was a match. Sure enough, I had a matching die. A little while later, I had a cleaned up steel bolt that threaded nicely. Some other reviewers mentioned plastic handles, and yes, there is plastic on the handle, but its not completely plastic. There is a metal core to it and I felt that it was plenty sufficient to do the work that this kit was designed for. You might have issues if you really push it, but I dont foresee any issues like that for me. Overall, this is a great kit for the price and has already saved me headache.

Well labeled and organized, the range of sizes was ideal for my application. Used it 4 times the same day I received it, worked perfectly. Highly recommend.

Used this for a gas burner project and was surprised to see an npt tap included. This is a really nice set of taps for the money.

I cross threaded one of the 1/4 inch lead/stainless hurricane shutter mounts in my cement block wall (here in Florida) and it would be a mess to pull it out and try to replace it. I was able to use the 1/4 inch tap to repair the threads and make the existing mount usable. The tap was able to cut metal on what I think is stainless steel in the mount. This was worth most of the cost of this set. As others have noted, the tools that go with this kit are 3rd world quality but the taps and dies themselves seem to be ok. This is a great kit for the homeowner but probably not for industrial use. Due to close quarters, I had to hold the tap with a pair of pliers to do the work, as there was no suitable tool to hold it supplied. As others have noted, after spending some quality time re-arranging all the tools in the case, I took the suggestion to add a piece of cardboard to the inside so that the tools would not bounce out of place anymore.

Im a retired Quality Engineer and have wanted a set like this for decades. This kit has proved to be one of my wisest invests and Im so happy w the tap And thread making jobs ive done This is NOT a cheap set by no means and the value is enormous vs price. I am very pleased w this set and recommend it highly to any DIY garage/home work shop.
