> 3 dayMy dad had an fairly aged Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop. Upon boot the fans were always at full throttle and the laptop was extremely warm. It would also shut down on its own every one in a while. Of course this is all evidence for over heating. I downloaded CPU ID HWMonitor. From boot and it just sitting idle the temps were 50-55 degrees. If i just opened an internet browsers temps would reach 70 degrees! That should be CPU maxed out temps. NOT GOOD! I bought Arctic Silver and opened up the laptop. The thermal paste was rock solid. With further research I learned this is typical with Dell laptop. Crappy thermal paste to save a few pennies apparently. After removing the old stuff and applying this stuff and a little spring cleaning (dust) the idle temps are around 35 degrees. Normal use the hover around 41 degrees and maxed out CPU temps hover between 65-70 degrees. Couldnt really expect any better.
