Perfect for my needs. I use it to play blu ray movies/tv shows and organize my music collection. Sturdy and easy to use. A little big to be truly portable, but that does not matter for my needs, used on my desktop PC.

I have four external DVD drives. In 2012 I bought an LP that is built well and I used it a lot. It got old and stopped reading double layer DVDs so good. What I liked is this ASUS is actually an internal drive and ASUS built a shell around it to make it an external drive. The drive is sturdy and seems built to last, not like my LP Slimline that seemed flimsy (but in actuality is lasted a long time). Ive heard people say they didnt like the eject button because the blue light confused them some. The eject isnt the blue light, its to the right of the tray. No problem for me, but it isnt marked well and blends in with the facade. This external drive is probably the best external drive I have owned. The only way youre going to know though is to buy one and see for yourself.

After a few weeks of use I thought this unit was dead, but it turned out to be the USB hub that was malfunctioning. This unit itself is performing ok so far otherwise. Ill check back in about 6 months of continuous use.

I bought this device in late May 2022. It arrived in June 2022. Now in Oct 2022 it no longer reads discs. Several times when using it the device would make loud grinding or winding noises. The warranty expired almost immediately and now I am left with this broken device. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I can burn DVD discs fine but when I try to burn a Blu-Ray using Verbatim BD-R LTH type discs my program, BurnAware, spits it back saying I need to insert a BD-R/RE disc. Pretty frustrated. I am not sure if it is ASUSs fault or the burner software.

Was discouraged about buying due to bad reviews but mine worked fine. Just know the software wont let you play blu-ray. Itll just let you burn/edit the disc info.

This is cheap garbage. It works fine for now, but it will obviously not last long. This promotes the very pirating they are supposedly fighting. Idiot music industry.

The drive is very fast and so far, is dependable. There is a power switch on the back that is very difficult to operate. Ive read reviews that the eject button (which is kind of hard to find) works intermittently. Im using the drive on a Mac and use software controlled eject. So for, no problems there either. Works well straight out of the box. It is not (in my opinion) portable, as its a full size drive and requires a power source.

Worked straight out of the box like a champ. It have been chewing through discs non-stop for days now with zero error. I connected the device to multiple USB 3.0 hubs to see if I can duplicate any of the difficulties others have been reporting with Windows 10. Intel, Asus, and Fresco controllers all worked. No issues with Windows 10 and the previously listed drivers. Reading the negative feedback, I think the issue lies with the end user. First, it will not just play a blu-ray. Do some research before purchasing a product. Second, to everyone complaining that device would not power on when plugged in. It wouldnt power up by just plugging it in. There is a power switch on the back that some what blends into the design of the unit. In the defense of those claiming all of their units were faulty, the power switch is stiff and difficult to operate. A quick glance at the user manual shows how to properly power up the device.

Unit does what it should. Unit is very big compared to others, and requires external power. This doesnt make it easily portable. The unit does however run well even on a very long USB extension lead. Overall Im fairly happy with the overall performance of the unit.
