08-06-2025I have four external DVD drives. In 2012 I bought an LP that is built well and I used it a lot. It got old and stopped reading double layer DVDs so good. What I liked is this ASUS is actually an internal drive and ASUS built a shell around it to make it an external drive. The drive is sturdy and seems built to last, not like my LP Slimline that seemed flimsy (but in actuality is lasted a long time). Ive heard people say they didnt like the eject button because the blue light confused them some. The eject isnt the blue light, its to the right of the tray. No problem for me, but it isnt marked well and blends in with the facade. This external drive is probably the best external drive I have owned. The only way youre going to know though is to buy one and see for yourself.

> 3 dayAmazing to continue to see novice users that dont have a clue what they are doing. After over 50 years in the industry on just about every level, especially desktop support it never fails that people want to blame the hardware over their ignorance.

08-06-2025This is cheap garbage. It works fine for now, but it will obviously not last long. This promotes the very pirating they are supposedly fighting. Idiot music industry.

> 3 dayAfter a few weeks of use I thought this unit was dead, but it turned out to be the USB hub that was malfunctioning. This unit itself is performing ok so far otherwise. Ill check back in about 6 months of continuous use.

> 3 dayCant tell whether its the drive or the software that comes bundled with it, but I have only been able to create one backup successfully. Now, the software that comes bundled with the drive, Cyberlink Powerbackup 2.5, stops responding completely only when I attempt to write to this drive. I dont understand why ASUS would bundle software with their equipment that doesnt even work. I went so far as to upgrade to Cyberlink PowerBackup 2.6 and updated it. Got the same results. Until someone figures out whats failing, I wouldnt recommend buying this drive. Update: Contacted Cyberlink technical support team and provided them with the data they required. Theyre suggestions about adding these two device drivers to my machine, Download and install Intel® 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller driver under System Components section. Download and install Intel® Management Engine Interface driver under Motherboard section. caused my machine to not recognize any of the USB devices that were attached, I also ended up having to do a system restore just to get it to boot up again. Its the software, and they dont know how to fix it. Update: Got Acronis True Image 2017 and it doesnt fail, but it doesnt recognize the drive size and asks the user if they want to retry, cancel or format the disk. What ever you do, dont format it. If you do, even with a BD-RE disc, it becomes usable. Tech support sent me Acronis True Image 2018. Tested it and got the same results. Their tech support got back to me and stated that it is a known issue with their software and they are working to resolve it. Another update: Found that Acronis Software works with up to a 50GB BD-RE disc. Also found that if Acronis software just tries to write to a 100GB BD-RE disc, it makes the disc unusable. As of this writing, I raised Acronis awareness of this, but I have got no real response that indicates that they understand this clarification. They finally contacted me again and have resumed the escalation and troubleshooting process. They got a good understanding of the problem and worked the issue. I can only describe their solution as Booyah! It worked. Those guys kick ass!

Greater than one weekIt works like advertised. This is a basic external DVD drive. It is aesthetically appealing as well.
