> 3 dayI am on my third one of these. I initially ordered two. One was DOIA on arrival. It was rapidly replaced, no problem. But now about 3 months later the replacement is starting to make really horrible sounds when you open and close the drawer, and its taking an inordinate amount of time identifying discs and starting the burning process. I can do side by side comparisons with the other player, using the same software and the same files. The properly functioning one initializes and starts burning rapidly. The one with the bad noises takes a couple of minutes to even get started burning and it just makes noises that makes me think its going to be failing very soon. So that would mean a 50% failure rate. I dont know if I would buy these again. At least I have an asurion warranty because I think Im going to have to send it back and keep my fingers crossed that the new one will work. But the other drive, the one that works, has worked perfectly, quietly, and very fast.

> 3 dayI can see people are confused how disc burners works in 2020, so let me explain. There is a ton of illegal piracy out there, so in 2012 there was both a law and a patent out there that states that all disc burners must be required to use firmware that prevents users of just making endless copies of movies ect., so in 2020 on a PC you can only burn media files or data onto a disc, you cannot directly copy media directly from a disc, nor can you use drives to watch movies on your computer because of the legality of pirate of just screen capturing. It can be done, but its through illegal 3rd party means

> 3 dayI really wanted this to work. Unfortunately it did not. It reads discs fine, but it always errors out when trying to burn any type of disc. I dont burn discs often and by the time I realized this, it was past the return period. Fortunately the seller was kind enough to refund my money anyway. You would expect that if Asus was going to put their name on it, that their quality control would be better.

> 3 dayI got this drive to backup my movies. It is a great addition to my PC. I especially appreciated the fast installation. As soon as I plugged it into my PC, BANG! I was up an running. Plus, I am partial to Asus products. They make solid products. Everything from Laptops to Motherboards. Thank you Asus for making good products.

> 3 dayThis Blu Ray drive should have been rated 4 Stars. It is very well designed and built. It works well. I reduced the rating from 5 stars to 4 because the top surface is not flat. Therefore, most items can NOT be placed on the top. I further reduced the rating because the description is either misleading or a flagrant lie. This unit is incapable of playing Blu Ray DVDs on a Mac. I spent a frustrating hour on the phone with Asus Customer Support to no avail. The Asus website asks for the operating system being used with this drive, and the ONLY choices appearing on their pick list are Windows. I returned thus Asus drive to Amazon.

> 3 dayPerfect for my needs. I use it to play blu ray movies/tv shows and organize my music collection. Sturdy and easy to use. A little big to be truly portable, but that does not matter for my needs, used on my desktop PC.

12-06-2025Even though the description says it is both Windows and MacOS compatible, the software included (on DVD) only supports Windows. Make sure you have a MacOS application that will support the drive.

> 3 dayAfter a few weeks of use I thought this unit was dead, but it turned out to be the USB hub that was malfunctioning. This unit itself is performing ok so far otherwise. Ill check back in about 6 months of continuous use.
