We used this hand vac daily for 3 years. Its a great little vacuum - really picks up dirt, dust and debris. But after 3 years, the battery is getting weak and it now runs only for a couple of minutes before being unusable. Its very easy to get to the battery pack: remove the vac barrel; remove two screws from the case: slip off the side cover; slip the battery out of the case; disconnect the quick disconnect; and, its ready for a replacement battery pack. Except that there are no replacement battery packs! The battery part number is 515LPFC, but B+D doesnt carry them, nor does Amazon nor any of the parts houses. The battery pack case can easily be opened to reveal a circuit board and 5 battery cells. But the battery cells are welded onto their connectors, so they cannot easily be removed, and they are completely covered by the case so that any identifying marks are hidden. It may be possible to break the welds on the batteries, but it will take more than a soldering iron to do so. Without any means to replace the failing battery, that means that the entire unit must be discarded. I give 5 stars for the vacuum, but only 1 star for the unavailability of replacement batteries, so that averages out to 3 stars.

Im a fan of great design so lets start out with the pluses: I love the adjustable nozzle on this thing and the way it looks and ease of docking in the charging station. Its fairly lightweight too. Now the minuses: I think this was designed for a very quick pick ups--the suction is fantastic in the first 5-10 minutes and then starts dwindling very quickly, even after a full charge. The dirt cup lid opens at a 90° angle which makes it awkward to tap over a garbage can, and usually lets a bunch of the junk I just sucked fall all over the floor. Very aggravating. The lid also accidentally opens sometimes, which is a huge negative when youre trying to clean up, not spread more dirt. The nozzle is nice and wide, but pet hair, bits of wrappers etc. get sucked up and then clogged in the flap that leads to the dirt cup, reducing the suction to nearly 0 and requiring that you stop your task and get a tool to somehow pull that junk out. Overall I would give this five stars for the look and design but two stars for the actual function. Ive had this Hoover hand vac for three years and its a workhorse — I can vacuum nearly an entire 1200 square-foot house on one charge. It has a smaller nozzle, but Ill trade that any day for the suction and performance: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QF68YTM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Greater than one week

This is a little bit heavy, but it has good suction power, is easy to to use, and has extra tools to use on nice surfaces and in crevices. A good buy!

Bought this to aid in the collection of multi-colored Asian beetles that seem to invade our home year-round, vacuuming them up from walls, ceilings, and around windows and doors from room to room. The on-board brush that flips into place protects finishes. The motion in the filter actually dismembered most of the invaders. Its light enough to vacuum above ones head at length. This works great to clean cars and the onboard crevice tool extension comes in handy. The battery lasts a long time before charging.

I use this to clean out my car, and for small spaces in my house. It works good. Takes a bit to charge up if it dies but it lasts for a decent amount of time as long as you aren’t running it for a long time.

This vacuum is the very best handheld cordless vacuum I have ever owned. It has powerful suction, gets dirt out of hard to reach corners, and the flexibility of the unit allows me to get to places I simply could not reach before. I highly recommend this vacuum, and Im so glad I made the purchase.

I got it on Amazon day July 15, at 1 cent more expensive! Wasted my time that day. I still have two B&D NiCad in the garage I think. I gave up on them and others for a couple of years. They are good, perhaps too good. Replacement filters cost a fortune. And the power drops fast. I tried another one with a washable filter. You have to touch the accumulated dust to clean it. No matter how you wash it, its still black. Then you dry the filthy filter, reshape it a little, and put it back. Not a pleasant thing to do. Also, at the time, I waited at least for NiMH battery but they never arrived. When lithium came out they are so expensive. And the first bagless like the Dyson are so large! This is surprisingly small which is a good thing. The battery is heavy but not more than some other models, old and new. Not that you need much effort to vacuum. The older ones are full of dead spaces that are difficult to clean thoroughly. The pivoted tube is more convenient than a fixed straight one, but the advantage is really in the storage. When its folded, it stands upright and stable on the charging stand taking up little footprint. You can put in on the table and its not bad to look at. Indeed, it comes with some tapes to protect the shiny finish just as some electronics. There is an indicator light that blinks when its charging, so you know its in the right position when you put it back. Even when its fully charged, when you take it out of the base and put it back, the indicator will still blink a little. Very reassuring. Its very easy to empty the dirt, and very easy to take the filters off to wash. Indeed, you take the whole thing to wash, leaving the motor and battery with the handle. So you dont need to touch or go near the dirt, not that much. The models I used before all have some metal screws or something else near the suction tube or on the body that made it unsuitable to wash. The prefilter is semi-clear plastic and the inner filter is pleat. The inner filter looks like disposable filters but it is washable. If it doesnt go back to white or light grey after wash, it doesnt matter that much because I dont really have to touch it much if I dont want to. Theres even a pull up handle on the filter. The on-board tools make the price worthwhile. There are a narrow flat tube and a brush that you can pull out from the end of the suction tube. Very convenient and you wont ever need to find it. Even if its attached to the body on other models, the changing of it is a hassle. Yes, Im lazy. Not really, when you take a 10 sec to take off one tool and insert the other tool in, you could have completed the job on this one. I cant find any fault yet. But the plastic packing is not recyclable. Update: this thing is easily jammed with bigger things like pet food pellets. Its not the size of the pellets but the small volume of the collection cup. Even if the cup is not full, the pellets circulate around the container. Because of the compact design, the flap that prevents pellets going back out the tube opens into the path of the pellets inside. It doesnt take much solid trash to jam the tube so nothing goes inside the cup but remains inside the tube. When the motor stops those trapped pellets will flow out from the tube. Of course, theres no problem for dust and fine trash. Therefore I brought also the older model with 16V. The few volt difference isnt obvious during use. Sucking pet food pellet is shown in the listing pictures. One advantage is that this can be wall mounted and it doesnt take much vertical space because of the folded tube.

Im disappointed in the battery life. I bought this in 2016 and the battery stopped being useful in 2020. I have to park outside and not near my building. Now when I use this to clean my car, it lasts for about a minute. I turn it off, wait, then try for another minute. I leave it sitting in the charger all the time. Does the cleanliness of the filter have anything to do with the battery life? Are there any handheld vacs that have good reliable battery life?

light and portable, yet powerful enough to suck up cobwebs, dust bunnies, crumbs, stray litter, bits of debris, etc. ive used this around the house, in the car, and anywhere i need to clean without being tethered by an electrical cord or the larger standard upright or canister type. the pivoting nozzle is extendable to get into nooks and crannies, able to lock into the position needed. the flip up brush on the nozzle is good for softer surfaces such as upholstery or drapes. i found the nozzle great for use in corners where stair treads meet risers, or on clean up the top of shelf up high. the first button on the handle releases the nozzle so that it can be pivoted to the position necessary. the second button is a slider that powers on the unit on or off. engage the pivoting nozzle until it is against the units body to make it compact and ready for its charging base. the powered charging bases plastic seems flimsy compared to the vacuums heavy duty plastic, but its sufficient to cradle the vacuum for charging. the base can be set on the counter, table or floor, or mounted on the wall with the included mounting screws. a dim blue led light flashes slowly when the unit is docked into its charging base. upon being fully charged, the led discontinues illuminating to indicate it is ready. when the vacuum is in use, the led illuminates steadily for on. when the vacuum starts to run out of charge during use, the led flashes quickly as a warning before all the power is discharged. first time charging can take up to 4 hours with subsequent charging time seeming to be less than that. this isnt meant to replace corded units ability to run non-stop. this limited amount of time on a battery-based product is sufficient for on and off use while doing a quick cleanup. continuous usage running time may vary. approximately 15 minutes is my best time thus far. a lot of small factors impact how long it can run continuously, such as suctioning effort, operating temperature, how much debris is collected, etc. the pivots cylindrical dirt chamber opens easily for emptying of collected debris. my favorite feature is that the nozzle and cylindrical dirt chamber unit is removable for a thorough washing. push the side button on the nozzle, and the assembly releases from the body of the vacuum. a removable and washable pre-filter and filter is inside the chamber and the filter itself is replaceable. i personally like washable filters due to their reuse ability. thats why i also have a dyson upright. the dirt chamber has an internal rubber flap where the nozzle joins it, which helps trap debris from falling back out the nozzle. this is perfect for when you use the unit to suck up pesky insects or food items, and you dont want them to escape back out should the unit be powered off. the black and silver color scheme is attractive enough should this unit be left in view while charging instead of hidden away. according to the instructions, the lithium battery can be removed. obtaining a replacement 20-volt lithium battery might be possible when available.
