I bought this mainly to control my LG AC wall unit and Fan, the installation was quite difficult but was able to complete. I have several smart devices through out my home, from smart bulbs, smart locks to security cameras so this was not my first time setting up a device and wanted it to work with Google Home. I am able to link it to Google and it even appears on the app but that is all, it just wont work. I even tried linking to IFTTT and the same. It can turn off and on the AC unit through the app with no problem ,but I bought it to work with voice command.

I bought this product to remotely control a TV and possibly some other devices for a handicapped person. Heres what I found: 1) it works over the same wifi network to provide a local wifi remote for a Roku TV. Great. But one cant use that remote over the internet. This is of course possible, the Alex Roku skill will control the TV from anywhere as long as there is an Alexa set up on the local wifi network. I can for example tell Alexa in my house to turn on the TV in the other persons house, set the input, etc. The Broadlink device clearly CAN communicate over the internet since I can use it remotely to control IR devices in the other house. However I suspect that the RM4 doesnt actually do wifi remotes, that is a function of the app. 2) When setting up IR remotes, NONE of the devices I had were pre configured. So 100% not matched despite the claim of 95% match. 3) The RM4 didnt come with a USB power adapter. Obviously one is likely to want to plug it into a power source. 4) It didnt work with the XFinity remote. Seems like a frequency issue. The particular frequency of that remote is not supported. For my use case Alexa worked and this didnt. Also Comcast has an app that works remotely (over the internet) to control the Xfinity box. Too bad I dont have some automated curtains I need to control. The only thing Im using this for now is to monitor temperature. In Celsius.

The only reason Im not giving this product a 5* review is that they are misleading with how it works with Alexa, and that it has really a weird learning curve. Other than that I LOVE this thing! Ill try to teach you what Ive learned so that, hopefully, you can love this device as much as I do. Firstly, if the item is in the database, and you add it in via the database, then it will become a scene immediately. It has to be a scene to connect to Alexa. Also, dont forget you need to add broadlink as a skill in your alexa app as well. If its not an item in the database then you can add it as a user define. I prefer to add items as a user define, Ive found that it works better for me in the ifttt and alexa apps. If it is a user define you must make a scene for each individual button you add IF you want that button to have voice control. Lets say my fan remote has 3 buttons: power, oscillate, and speed. I wanted to be able to tell my fan to turn on and oscillate, but I dont care about controlling the speed of the fan with my voice. I would only make two scenes: one to turn on the fan, and one to make it oscillate. I could still control the speed via the broadlink app or the remote itself, but I wouldnt be able to voice control it. Lets learn about voice control, since its a little weird too. You can only turn scenes on in Alexa. Meaning I cant say turn off fan you have to say turn on fan off. As a side note, all this device can do is emulate the buttons on your remote so technically you should just say, Turn on fan to get it to turn off, since most power buttons turn the device on and off. Controlling devices vocally through scenes themselves is hard and extremely confusing. So make it a TON easier on yourself by using alexa routines. Routines are life. I have 3 different devices with three different remotes that I have to use every time I want to watch TV or play video games. Instead of having to fumble remotes I can say three words to Alexa and she will turn my TV on, my soundbar on, and the TV switched to the correct aux device almost immediately (pics of what some of my routines look like). It operates from top to bottom, so first it turns on my TV, then my sound bars, then switches to the auxiliary cord my nintendo switch or fire stick is plugged into (depending on which routine I trigger). Most of my routines are voice activated but they can be activated by time, action, location etc. My smart home, and remote count, is drastically improved by this affordable device.

The app literally wont let me input my Wi-Fi password because it doesnt let me input enough characters.

This works great. Controls my roller shade, mini split a/c unit, TV, and surround sound zvox. And it works with Alexa. At night I tell Alexa to turn the family room off and the shade goes down and all other items turn off It’s easy to set up and it works great. The only thing is I wish they would add a usb power module and come in white.

Update: After a few emails back and for with Broadlink, they were able to fix the problem on their end. Not perfect, but good service. The device stopped pairing with Google Home after a month. None of the suggested fixes (on BroadLinks website) corrected the problem. It still works as a stand-alone app and with Siri.

I bought the RM4 Pro for an awning remote. It learns IR control well and works well. I try to use an RF control but it doesnt work. The RM4 learns the RF but will not send it when to the Sunsetter Awning.

We have a Broadlink Pro 3 model and had issues using it with a particular model fan (we have 4 of these fans), so when we found out the new version was out, we opted to try it out and see if the upgraded device would now work with our ceiling fans. Unfortunately, it does not. It seems to work with the light, but not the actual fan controls. However, any other devices that we have programmed to it, it has worked without issue and its integration with Google Home is awesome too (this was also available on the version 3 model too), so we decided to keep the unit and will gift our old unit to a friend or family member who wants the capability of controlling IR/RF devices with WiFi.

This is trash. The remote is NOT broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal so I can’t connect to it to set it up. The BroadLink app doesn’t see it, nor can I see the “BroadLink_WiFi_Device” network on my iPhone or iPad. I’ve tried all the standard measures - restart the remote, restart Wi-Fi, etc….. Quick setup instructions in the box say “scan the QR code”. When I try that I get “this device cannot be set up by QR code”. Grrr……. It’s going back to Amazon.
