After my toddler learned how to open the baby-proof refrigerator latch and was tall enough to do it without assistance, we were in trouble. He is very tall for his age, and as the third boy, is at least as stubborn as two young boys. He couldnt be trusted alone in the kitchen, and even if an adult was watching him, he would open the door and mayem would ensue. Perhaps I could have adjusted my thinking and decided that I LIKED having half a dozen eggs broken on my kitchen floor (or in other parts of the house), I could have joined in (Im sure that is a very satisfying crack, after all, and feeling the cool gooiness between my fingers...mmm), or I could have decided I just didnt CARE if he ate five cheese sticks at once, or turned the temperature up on the fridge and spoiled food, or climbed up in the shelves to flick the light on and off... But I hated the food waste, the clean-up, trying to reason with a toddler, and knowing that he WAS climbing inside the fridge creating a tipping hazard, I grew tired of washing dishes with one foot bracing the door shut. This is not a request for parenting advice. This is a lock review. I went ahead and ordered this thinking it was pretty funny that I was desperate enough to buy a padlock for my refrigerator. However, in many ways it has been a lifesaver. It is 100% toddler proof. IF someone remembers to lock the fridge, my toddler cannot open it. If hes tired and in a temper he can pull hard enough on the door to knock things off the top of the fridge (so far no tipping!), but he cant break the lock. My older boys know where we keep the key and have, once or twice, climbed up and gotten it to help themselves to something we told them they couldnt have, but it has cut down on unauthorized snacking, or meal spoiling. (I have a red-headed five-year-old--hes stubborn.) I snack less. As long as I try to keep pantry snacks reasonably healthy, it is often easier to grab an apple from the fruit basket than to rummage in the fridge and overeat. Well see if this leads to long-term weight loss or not now that Ive had the newest baby. The biggest drawback weve had is that were too lazy to separate the keys and pick a safer place for the extra one. This means that Ive almost dropped the key down the heat vent and once both keys went home in our babysitters pocket. She noticed and brought them back before I tried to get into the fridge. This is the only child-resistant item Ive purchased that has withstood all three of my older boys and weather such regular and frequent use. Im sure once they hit the teen years and eat even more than they do now (which is hard to imagine) I will be even happier with this. Now, to get a really annoying keychain reminding us to eat healthy...

I have tried about 6 different fridge child locks that my kids have figured out how to open or break. Finally, I got tired of bringing home fruits and yogurts just to have the entire carton devoured in one afternoon by my 3, 4, and 7 year old. They are like little ninjas: super sneaky and stealthy. They just grab and go before I know it. This lock is great! As soon as it arrived I slapped it on the fridge- super quick no measuring, no reading directions, and after a month it is still holding strong. The first two days the kids tried to yank open the door repeatedly in hopes it would snap like other locks we purchased with no luck. The two pieces allow for some bending and the lock comes with two keys. Not only has this allowed me to trim about $200 off my monthly grocery bill it actually makes my husband and I think twice before reaching for a snack! Often I have found myself thinking I have to unlock this thing? (Sigh) Ill just have some water Edit: for anyone wondering about durability we recently upgraded to a new fridge and this bad boy was still stuck tight after almost 4 years. It is now living in the land of forgotten appliances along with the fridge as we probably would have had to crowbar it off if!

This lock is strong. Highly recommend to keep the refrigerator locked up (alcohol in fridge). Its permanent so be sure before you apply it.

I bought a mini fridge because nefarious individuals kept invading my stash of ale when I wasnt around. It didnt help so I bought one of these fridge locks. Before it arrived, I broke a bunch of bones in my hand, so when I got it and read the instructions I was concerned. The adhesive isnt stronger the longer you hold it on surface when installing, but is stronger the more pressure you exert. My brother in law helped me install it but I wasnt able to push very hard. It was slightly crooked so he said to pull it off and reposition it. Not happening. Now you might be able to grab some bolt cutters and cut the lock off, but a linebacker with a blow torch and a crowd bar couldnt get this thing off. Several very very large friends tried. Make sure you want this on permanently. My beer is safe.

I put this on the door for the propane tanks on my RV. Easy to open and close and keeps me from getting my tanks ripped off.

This seems to be a good solution to hindering anybody getting into the mini fridge. It attaches securely with the 3M backing. Really need to be accurate with the location of the 2 tape ends otherwise the locking bars wont line up. I dont think the material holding the locking bars in place is tough enough to keep anybody from using a hack saw to cut through it, but it will slow them down.

It seems to be built well but the adhesive didn’t stick like I had hoped. I used this on a shelving unit to keep the door closed. I’m planning on adding a stronger glue or something.

My Mother who sadly suffers with early onset dementia lives with me. She would (for a time) wander at night and I would find food in the bathroom and out on counters in the mornings. I HATED doing it, but had to buy these and they worked. She doesnt do much night time digging in the fridge anymore, so its cool that I can remove the cables. I didnt read the directions, but commonsense says Clean the areas where you will place them. I shouldve read them though, cause I didnt take into account the size of the lock and lined them up wrong, so for awhile there I had to hear the fridge door open enough to shake when the cables pulled together and hit the lock. That was clearly my issue. I would totally buy another one if ever needed to.

Had my camera on my frig and saw a ungrateful teen leaving my fridge open and walking away leaving it open. This solved that situation. I would give it 10 stars.

I bought this after putting a chest freezer in my carport. I know it won’t keep someone out that has even mediocre bolt cutters but figured it would be a good deterrent. i figured it would be a good deterrent for any animals too. I wasn’t sure how well it would stick but I was shocked. I actually tried very hard to pull it off and it’s impossible without using tools. For the price this is exactly what I needed.
