I decided to pay extra for the OEM version rather than the generic, and I could instantly tell that the Coway brand had thicker pleats than the generic. Working fine.

Stinky out of box for 2 days but they fit at least.

Because our apartment gets a lot of gas, we have to change the HEPA filter frequently and the packaging gives you only one HEPA filter and two thin black dust collector filters. So we have built up a collection of black dust filters since we don’t have to change those as frequently and the HEPA filter is more critical to be changed than the dust filters.

This package comes with 2 carbon filters and 1 hepa filter. The filters work well. They noticeably reduce dust and airborne particles. Unfortunately the filters do not last long enough, especially the carbon filter. They advertise that they can last 6-12 months be we are lucky to get 6 weeks from the HEPA (running at high speed most days) while running through a carbon filter in 2-4 weeks. Our home is only a year old and we also have a HEPA vacuum cleaner. The house is not overly dusty but still the filters do not last as long as advertised. Also the price is a little high. $35 would be more reasonable considering how often they need replacing. Compared to other products the Coway is our favorite. We have owned Austin Air, Brondell O2 (have 3 also) and many others. We have no regrets about buying this product and would buy it again. Although I complained about a short life span of these filters, Brondell filters have an even shorter life span and more expensive. I recommend Coway but just know that your filters wont last as long as advertised.

Perfect fit for the air. Sometimes it’s pats to go with the name brand. I bought a generic one. It still did the job, but holding them together the Coway one appeared to be a little thicker.

I was concerned, of course, because of the many reviews talking about a toxic smell. No toxic smell on mine. It smells like every other HEPA replacement filter Ive bought in the last 20 years from many different brands. Tested once with my dylos particle counter. I am getting about 30 ppm ambient indoors (after running these filters for a couple of days) and 3 ppm of 2.5pm at the exhaust (0 to 1 ppm of pm 10). 30 ppm is already very low, the outdoors is generally well over 1,000 ppm on my dylos meter. With the Canadian wildfires the ppm outdoors has been routinely over 5,000 ppm of pm2.5 and I even saw over 12,000 one day. Ill update when I get a few more readings. Im very happy with Coway so far, its a high quality and quiet machine with good filter replacements.

Although I was unsure about buying either the OEM or the off-brand, I went with the OEM because I need a quality filter. It is extremely easy to replace, very clean, although depending on the filtering level, you will have to replace it more often. I have to replace mine once every 6 months, since its pretty much always on. I trust the OEM, but a friend has the 3rd party filter, and it looks and feels identical. So, I might save some money next time and just buy off-brand.
