> 3 dayThis is my third Dakota Alert. The first was fried by lightning, the second died a natural death. This latest DCMA-4000 is much simpler to set up, seems to have greater range, and has more alarm sound choices. Deer still set it off, but an alert is better than none. The outdoor enclosure is the same as the previous model, with which I had a problem. After a few years, the transmitter stopped working. I opened up the box and rain had infiltrated past the rubber o-ring seal. I dried out the box and pc board, and coated the o-ring with silicone grease which remedied the problem. I consider this a well-engineered product and will probably buy the next generation if and when this one dies. I also like that its made in the US.

Greater than one weekInstalled this a couple of days ago, was waiting for Fedex to set it off and I wasnt disappointed. It triggered about 125 feet down my driveway and reacted as advertised. Max sensing range is around 100 feet but the sensor can transmit to the receiver up to 1/2 mile depending on terrain as it is line of sight. The outdoor setting seems to prevent spurious triggers due to weeds or branches blowing in the wind. It seems to only trigger if a large object breaks the invisible beam. There are enough different alarm settings and levels to satisfy anyone. The lights are unobtrusive and mild being a soft blue color. Install and set up was easy with easy to understand instructions. This system will run up to 16 alarm sensors and now that I know it works so well, Im buying three more. Good job Dakota Alert!!

> 3 dayI bought this to replace my OLLLLLDDD Dakota system that isnt working properly anymore. I mean like 10 yrs old, which I consider pretty darn durable since its outside 24/7. So thinking about it, I added this one to another spot near our barn and it works like a charm. the old driveway alarm still not working well due to its age and love this one and its placement so picking up another camera and adding to system! love the flexibility to do that also!

> 3 dayIt absolutely works with its own transmitter, but that is not the same as the transmitter of several years ago. Be sure you know what you are buying. It has enough blue lights to light up a barn. I opened it and blocked most of them, put a darkening filter on one. For hearing impaired, I think its a good design. But my house is becoming covered in blue lights, with this being the brightest. The sound control is good. This thing can be set LOUD if you need it, and can be turned down in a quiet setting. --Good equipment.

08-06-2025The alarm came when promised. The only hard part was taking the back off of transmitter because the 4 screws required a #1 Phillip head screwdriver which was only one we didnt have. I did not change any settings inside ( filter, range or led light ). 9v battery which not included . I used the swivel mount on the out side of the house. For receiver the tune was very easy to set . There was about 8 or 10 tunes to pick from. Volume also has the off. Just keep hitting button. Alarm was catching large trucks or school buses so I adjust the position. Ill see how it does when snows or rain. I do have it protected under the roof overhang. Will update if theres a problem.

Greater than one weekWe live out in the boonies with a long driveway. We dont like surprise visits, like the cops that recently showed up in body armor with guns drawn that came to the wrong address. So that prompted this purchase, which we are well-pleased with. We have it set to a pleasant-sounding, ding dong, ding dong. It always works on cars and not deer, which is a plus. Installation took about half an hour and was quite easy. I set it about 10 off the ground in a tree to help it get through the serious amount of trees and brush between it and our home. It worked first try. Added bonus: the kids hear the bell and rush outside to greet Daddy.

> 3 dayI tried a different brand before but it couldnt pick up motion from more than 25 ft. This Dakota brand works great at picking up motion. I do wish it had different ringtones though. Not many choices and the first couple sound like our doorbell and it freaks out the dogs.
