> 3 dayI have them around my property and I know when anybody comes on my property with my security cameras that I can see him when they alert me and I can scare them off with loud sirens. This is what you gotta do when you live in Washington state

Greater than one weekYou have to mount those perfectly level to the area you are monitoring. I wanted to mount them high up because the last ones I had were stolen. I guess they thought they were game cameras. Needless to say I could never get them to work at any angle. Even now with them being level it’s hit or miss weather they go off or not. Very disappointed in this brand now. My old ones and the ones that were stolen which are Dakota Alert work fine.

Greater than one weekI tried a different brand before but it couldnt pick up motion from more than 25 ft. This Dakota brand works great at picking up motion. I do wish it had different ringtones though. Not many choices and the first couple sound like our doorbell and it freaks out the dogs.

> 3 dayWe live out in the boonies with a long driveway. We dont like surprise visits, like the cops that recently showed up in body armor with guns drawn that came to the wrong address. So that prompted this purchase, which we are well-pleased with. We have it set to a pleasant-sounding, ding dong, ding dong. It always works on cars and not deer, which is a plus. Installation took about half an hour and was quite easy. I set it about 10 off the ground in a tree to help it get through the serious amount of trees and brush between it and our home. It worked first try. Added bonus: the kids hear the bell and rush outside to greet Daddy.

> 3 dayThe receiver unit is nice. I got the one with relay contacts so I can interface it with HomeSeer. Dakota should seriously consider adding or replacing a few of the alert tunes with something more useful. The problem is with the PIR motion detector. It sees deer and people almost always but seeing a moving vehicle is a crap shoot at best. I relocated it twice with no improvement. Lots of false alarms. So many that I took it off the tree mount and brought it inside the house. It would detect me walking around and would also get into a state where it went off repeatedly every couple minutes. I adjusted sensitivity and filtering a few times with no improvement. I contacted Tech Support and they were helpful but did not solve the problem. So… I replaced the detector with a Dakota probe type detector that gets buried next to the driveway and it seems to be 100% reliable with no false alarms. I relocated the original PIR motion detector to the outside of the house where it now sees persons approaching the side door. It is reliable detecting people..

07-06-2025Driveway alarm purchased to detect cars - apparently only works well if the car is hot.....people it detects well....buyer beware you need the magnetic probe if you want 100% car detection....
