Drill America 3/8-16 UNC High Speed Steel Tap Set

Used it the first second I got a chance with proper cutting fluid. Extra careful 1/4 turn and back out a little to break the chips. Broke off inside of the hole.

Great addition for the hobbyist, starting and bottoming taps included.

Always a great product. Never had any issues. Keep em lubed.

I’m new to the hobby and broke a tap I purchased from another seller fairly quick so I thought I’d experiment with the set. I’m using a 1/16th to bore out the post and getting beautiful threads. I refer to the set as a cutter, a rough and a finish. I’m using the cutter and rough as often as I can, but some of the posts are so shallow I use the finish because the others won’t bite. I’ve got a dozen cars done already and see these taps working for easily double, triple, who knows how many more.

These taps were marked HSS and 12-24. There were no other markings for either manufacturer or country of origin on either the taps or the packaging. Are they counterfeit? Who knows? The good news is that they do have the correct pitch and diameter and at least cut in soft metals. These are quite inexpensive taps, so this is probably a reasonable deal for incidental use. They worked fine for the thread cleanup that I have done, but I would probably not use them in production.

First order had only two of the three taps, no bottoming tap. The replacement had only one tap. Ni shrink wrap or other packaging other than the plastic box for either set. So, the replacement is also going back. Dont waste your time ordering this.

The picture show when purchased them 3 different type of tapes. When I received them they all dead front or bottom type tapes. All are 5/8X11.

Performed as expected.

Only one tap is a bottom tap. The other two are standard tapered taps.
