Ive read all the on-line reviews at Amazon, hesitated, waited, obfuscated... and finally took the plunge and bought ECDC6. Anyone whos used any previous version of ECDC shouldnt have any problem using this program. Once I ACTUALLY SAT DOWN AND READ THE MANUAL, I found that the program had an easy, intuitive interface, lots of functionality that earlier versions lacked... and, yes Virginia, it DOES run on Windows XP. (My computer is running XP Pro on a 2.4gHz P4, 512MB RAM and two hard drives totalling 240GB) The only reasons I dont give it 5 stars (actually, Im giving 4 1/2) are as follows: 1) After I upgraded from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional, I had to remove ECDC6 and then re-install it (Windows XP told me to do this). 2) The functionality of the old Spin Doctor is lost. I should be able to remove crackles and pops from files recorded from a record, then re-save them. Can anyone suggest to me how to do this? Otherwise, I have yet to encounter any of the problems mentioned by folks in previous reviews. ECDC6 is running just fine for me.

I bought this solely based on the Roxio reputation. I installed it, the DVDs I burned didnt work (it crashed). I spent serveral hours downloading the upgrades from the Roxio site, then tried it again. The DVD crashed still!!! The store I bought this from (Best Buy)does not take open software returns (none!) So I stepped outside then threw this entire package into the trash. I gave this product one star only because Amazon doesnt have a lower rating.

For DVD-Video editing/creating, I use Roxios VideoWave 7 Professional. For everything else this is great! Ive had great success with win2000; its designed for XP/ME/98 as well. 2000/XP users w/NTFS partitions will be best off; ANY user w/FAT32 partitions will likely experience some craziness! I use Norton Ghost for backup/imaging: so even if my computer spontaneously combusts(!), I can rebuild it pretty quickly. My Faves- attractive interface, excellent html help, Creator Classic with Disc Copier, AudioCentral, Label Creator, and Drag-to-Disc: these are amazing! With *just these* components & a DVD+/-RW drive, this software *should* actually be pretty stable- it works great on my system! (AthlonXP 3000+; 512MB memory.) Disc Copier copies CDs/DVDs that arent copy protected, yet Ive copied a few store-bought items: a music CD; a cheap PC game CD; an instructional DVD(!); a foreign NTSC DVD(wow!). Creator Classic makes all kinds of discs- Data, Music, MP3, Enhanced, Mixed-Mode, Bootable & more! AudioCentral effectively rips, burns, converts & manages MP3s, WMAs, WAVs & OGGs. Its even greater now with the new mp3PRO Plug-in encoder available at Roxios website (highly recommended!). Ive converted audio tapes, with my analog-in sound card, into high-quality MP3 CDs with professional looking labels! Drag-to-Disc is especially important to me because win2000 (my favorite OS) cant write to CDs/DVDs without extra software help. This is a tremendously versatile package! For most of my CD/DVD needs, this product is all I need! Official Caveat Time- *PLEASE BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE INSTALLATION!* Glitches, bugs, hangs & crashes can be experienced all throughout this product. Make sure Windows is up-to-date with all recent service packs & patches. If you install the entire product to see what it can do, then decide you can do without a few features, its best to uninstall the whole package, restart the computer, and then reinstall only the needed features with their corresponding updates. Check Roxios support page for common issues/problems to evaluate risk! (Especially win98/ME users!) *UPDATE 2006*: At one point, for whatever reason, my roxio software stopped detecting my drives altogether. I heard someone say: If EZCD6 ever says no drive detected, google search EEZ000005 to find a helpful link & potential fix from Roxio. I did this, and the fix was a small software download called DriveFixEZ_Installed.exe. I ran this and it worked! All my drives were detected again. Still though: Roxio makes it exceedingly difficult at times to find help and potential fixes. They may have even removed that help page I just mentioned(!). Otherwise, this software really *can* be great. It just occasionally seems to be more frustrating than its worth...

Roxio is known for having bugs, but this program is the world class bug infested software of all time. I dont even know where to start. But suffice to say that I allowed the program to be updated last night and now the thing cant even format a CD-RW. It wont even print labels, even ones created with earlier versions of this product, and the label maker was traditionally the only bug-free part of the suite. I have never seen a more blantant disregard for customer satisfaction. Uninstalling it was one of the highlights of my life.

I have sticked to Easy Cd from my early beginning recording CDs, more than 3 years ago, and believe me: I have tried many programs. My first version was 4.0 and it performed excellent. Never had a problem and everything worked perfectly well. It was Easy to use (the name said it all in this case) Then I tried version 5.0 and it brought many more features but also other complications. Everytime I wanted to record a CD a, heavy to load and memory consumption, menu opened and my computer slowered and sluggished its performance. I know you should not be doing anything else while recording a CD so all other applications were not running, except for my antivirus, so I could not figure out why my PC remained so slow after the CD had been recorded! I switched to Nero, which has more features and it is as powerful (or perhaps more) than Easy Cd. Nero is also easy to use (its wizard is really simple to follow) so it became my favorite. When I saw that a new version of Easy CD had appeared I came back hoping to find a good product. But instead I found a very similar program to its previous version for CD users (if you own a DVD recorder, not my case, you will enjoy it more, I think). But worst, it made my PC even slower!!! I have a P IV 1.5 Ghz with 256 Mb Ram so I do not have a totally out of date one... My advise: Cd users stick to your actual program and avoid it until Roxio fixes it.

I have many other software products that let me work with music creation and collection, so the main reason I bought Easy CD & DVD Creator was for its DVD tools. I have many VHS tapes which are family movie compilations, some dating back to Super 8 days. I was very eager to put these all on DVD for my family. The series of problems I had with this process was simply amazing. The software didnt have fast forward or rewind buttons. Importing often failed even though the movie or sound files were perfectly usable by every other software package on my system. The software crashed numerous times. I tried to move the project onto another system to see if it would be any better, and the move process required me to start again from scratch. I finally got my DVD put together the way I wanted it and started to write. It crashed. I tried to simply write an image to disk. It crashed. The Roxio message boards are full of complaints from people with the same problem. I sent an email to their tech support. No answer. If you call in you pay for a toll call - plus pay $35 on top of that in order for them to help you figure out why their software is crashing. This software should never have been released in the buggy state it is in. It is incredible how much money I have spent for software that has wasted days of my time and simply does not work.

Roxio 6 platnium picks up where 5 left off by expanding the capabilities of the core program itself. The burning aspect leaves little to be desired for DVDs, CDs are burnt with precision and if installed correctly causes little problems (XP sp1). Overall, it does exactly what its supposed to and nothing else.

This is great if you want to make vcds and copy cds and stuff like that, but if you want to make your own dvds you might want to search for something with a higher quality Mpeg encoder. I use this and Nero for dvd authoring, this is a good program because you can edit out commercials and trim video clips, you cant do that with Nero or at least I havent figured it out yet. My only real complaint is when I output to dvd the quality of the video looks more like vcd, a lot of pixelation occures when things move fast on screen. With Nero the pixelation is minimal but you need a pre edited file to work with. If anyone knows of a software that will give me the best of both programs share the knowledge.

This is up there with the legendary WinFax V9 as one of the worst software products ever made. The main problem: this horrible product corrupts at the drop of a hat. You will find yourself uninstalling and re-installing this software - a long and tedious process - every single time you want to burn one CD. RUN as fast as can from this product. Id rather hand transcribe data - and go back to making music cassettes - than use this irritating mess.
