Epson Home Cinema 3200 4K PRO-UHD 3-Chip Projector with HDR

I have owned literally a dozen projectors but the only ones still used daily in my home are all Epsons due to their quality, ease of use, and price point. The family room has a UST Epson that is brilliant for its use case but it lacks 4K. 4K is reserved for the proper theater room and thats where the 3800 comes in. The 3800 hits a great price point for its performance. Its not as elegant as the 5040 since it lacks the automatic lens controls (which are so handy) but if your install is fairly simple then the 3800 gives you virtually the same picture quality at a fraction of the cost of the 5040. Its plenty bright for a theater room and will even work well in a family room after dark but if you dont have any light control then it will struggle in rooms with excessive windows during the day. Image purists will argue that Epson doesnt have true 4K due to their pixel shifting, however plenty of reviews will tell. you the same thing, you just need to see it in person and decide for yourself if you can see the different. Price wise it is still a big jump in cost to get a real 4K projector and even after paying that price you wont get one that can put out the number of lumens that this 3800 can. This is a perfect family home theater room projector at a good price. Its not a $5k or $15k Sony thats going in some high end custom theater but it will blow the family away in any modest home theater. Im running this on a 135 screen in a theater room with no windows. Its quiet, plenty bright, beautiful colors and simply great for the price point. If you own a 1080P projector and have access to 4K content on streaming services then I highly recommend taking the plunge and upgrading to see what youve been missing.

Great picture when dark. My room has a lot of light, which diminishes quality during day.

We placed the unit about 18’ away from the screen wall, and the diagonal is about 160”. Even stretched to this size it is as clear or better than my 70” flatscreen! Never expected it to look this good.

Heavy nice projector. The brightness is perfect which allows you not to have to sit in complete darkness to see a nice picture. Just plug it in and start watching movies. I recommend that you use high quality HDMI cables to get the best picture. I upgraded my Verizon cable box to 4K and could not get a picture and the same with my 4K DVD player. I tried everything but Epson support helped and suggested changing the cables and it worked perfectly. It turned out that cables that were installed in the theater room when the house was built (8 years ago) were out dated.

I recently upgraded my Optima and this was a great choice. A little bigger (heavier) than the previous projector. But the image quality and especially sound (very quiet) was well worth the price. I love the colors and blacks. I use it in my sunroom (with darkening shades), but it is even presentable in the daylight. But at night or a darken room is where it really shines. Good investment for movie night and general tv watch with an Apple tv.

Very bright and at most times the image is sharp. But, there are a lot of unpleasant visual effects. Dont really know how to describe it. When there were desert sands on screen there was like pink blobs.. when showing the sky there was massive rainbow effects. Honestly, the cheap 70$ one this replaces didnt have these problems. Im not going to return it but I would not have bought it had I known the picture would be like it is.

I mostly watch movies, youtube. I had a optoma hd28darbee that was great for games and pretty good for movies and then it failed. I tried one of the optoma laser projectors hz39hdr and the color was horrible way washed out. I looked out of the box and noticed just how good the picture was on the Epson 3800…. WOW incredible color, and detail. In fact it has the best image I have ever seen period!! Only drawbacks when switching inputs it can be slow and buggy so make sure if using a receiver with 4k hdmi switching, you have all the firmware updates done. Also games did look a bit better (sharper) with optoma however with some adjustments and just how good it looks with uhd4k movies I will except that. I mean it looks so good I stayed up to 2am just watching uhd4k content on youtube etc, amazing !!! Buy it you will love it!!!

Coming from a 10 year old Epson projector, this was modest improvement, primarily in brightness and contrast. However, the fan was really loud and the image had unacceptable uneven focus from side to side. Returned and upgraded to the 5050, which has an infinitely better image with better blacks, contrast, sharpness, noise, etc.

I did not know about this feature when I purchased this projector, but my favorite feature is the Anamorphic wide setting in the Aspect setting. My screen is 16:9 and I like filling the whole screen. Most movies now are 235-1 which have black bars on the top and bottom of my 16:9 screens. The Epson 3800 does a great job filling the entire screen using the Anamorphic Wide setting even in 4K. For me, the stretch is not that noticeable and it doesnt cut out the width like the zoom. I also think it works for 3D movies, but I havent tested it yet. The manual says this mode Displays images recorded at Cinema Scope size when you attach a commercially available anamorphic lens to the projector, however, you do not need to buy a anamorphic lens - it works as shipped. I will make the rest simple - If you want a great picture and are using your projector in your living room with moderate daylight, want to view 3D movies and dont care about perfect blacks, and want to fill 16:9 screen this is the projector for you. Finally, 3000 lumens make most viewing great using the Eco mode.

Ive had 4 or 5 projectors over the years and this one is by a wide margin the king. Even other epsons this is brighter and clearer and just projects better. The bluetooth sound works flawlessly and it even includes an onboard speaker, though its not enough for large or loud locations. The lens has all manner of adjustments for being able to get the correct flat picture on screen even when its throwing said picture from a weird or close angle. I hope that the bulb lasts longer than my last one which got about half the rated life span.
