Syncs easily with bike computer. Great accuracy in picking up approaching vehicles. Feels great to have that added level of safety. Battery life is not great. Usually get low battery warnings about 90 mins into my ride. These sometimes cause bike computer to freeze or glitch. Would expect Garmin products to work better with each other.

This was for my kid whos into competitive cycling and we (parents) were worried when he goes out for several hrs and we wanted him to be safe. The extra $20 for the newer model is worth the extra cost. According to my kid, it requires getting used to the loud beeping noise - he said not to use it if you are in a group ride. Very bright light too.

Its awesome - works exactly like in the videos. I like it because at least you know that a car or another bike is coming. Pairs with my Edge Explore perfectly. Battery life really long. Highly recommend.

The radar works very well, although not perfectly. It does catch cars and displays graphically on my Garmin cyclocomputer how far away it (and they) are as well as an impression of how fast. It can also note riders that are catching up; the speed and position display give you a feeling of whether it sees a cyclist or a vehicle. When riding into a headwind, I consider essential for revealing whats coming up on me.

Riding a bike on the road gets more and more dangerous every day. Glad to have this small amount of insurance to let me know what’s coming

It works great with my aeropex bone conduction headset and phone, letting me know when a car is behind me while I ride on the street (other reviews mentioned that the alerts are quiet, I had no issue hearing it over music). I dont rely on it by any means, but it is an added layer of awareness that, to me, is well worth the cost. The red LED is VERY bright, and the side visibility is awesome too. It charges overnight and lasts my entire hour+ commute. The mounting system is pretty versatile and fit very securely to the cargo rack on my Radwagon 4 ( I used both of the included O-rings) and releases easily with a quick quarter turn. The range is.... Probably as good as advertised? I havent broken out the yardstick. Money well spent in my book.

Amazing product. I cant believe I went so long without it. I ride primarily country roads and the Varia provides a huge piece of mind that Ill never be surprised by a passing car again. Typically provides 8-10 seconds lead time before the vehicle passes me, allowing me to shift position on the road well before the vehicle is right on top of me. It just works, and works well. Zero complaints so far. I actually made the jump from a Bryton computer to Garmin for the sole purpose of using the Varia Radar.

First, know that there are other versions of the Varia radars with integrated lights. I had one and sold it on eBay out of frustration. No manufacturer of bike computers EXCEPT Garmin supports ANT+ lights, so if you arent using Garmin, dont bother getting one with a light. Secondly, as you search around the Internet, youll see tons of people frustrated with how Garmin works with the light version of this product. For me, I tried every trick suggested in their forums, but basically couldnt get the light to work unless I unpaired and repaired it tediously before each bike ride. I have a Varia front light, and have no such trouble with it. I did not ding this review over that, because its a different product (the RVR515) but if you are considering both, search the Internet and weigh in other peoples experiences and frustrations into your decision. For an additional data point, I have a Garmin Edge 1030 computer, and I went so far as to wipe it to factory, plus reset the RVR515 several times in an attempt to fix it, and had the problem across two versions of the Garmin software, and one update to the firmware of the RVR515. Just not ready for primetime!

If you ride your bike on the road, you need this radar. It is nice to know when cars are coming from behind to know when to check mirror. It is like blind spot monitoring in a car.

See and be seen with Varia RTL515 rearview radar with tail light. It pairs with your Edge bike computer, other Garmin device or compatible smartphone to alert you of vehicles approaching from behind up to 153 yards (140 meters) away. When used with your compatible smartphone, the Varia app helps increase your awareness with vibration alerts and more. With daylight visibility up to 1 mile, motorists will be able to see you from a distance. The radar’s compact vertical design allows for device mounting on most road-use bicycles. And peloton mode provides a low-intensity flash that is kind to other riders’ eyes when riding in a group.
