This stuff is fantastic. Tastes great. Easy to ingest. Gives almost instant and sustained energy. Not too much caffeine. Theres no sugar rush - the impact seems to last a good 30 - 45 minutes, depending on the level of exertion. I didnt ever get the jitters. I would alternate one of these and the Gu Endurance Energy Drink and water. This was my first, but definitely not the last time using these. I used these on a 500-mile ride over 7 days. I tried to stay ahead of the bonk. I didnt want to overdo it. But as soon as I felt my power level drop or a knew there was a big hill, I would tear one of these open and squeeze it into my mouth. It tastes delicious - like a dessert or a liquid candybar. It would take 5 to 10 minutes to kick in. But when it did BAM! My riding partners could notice the impact. When I would sprint to the front of the paceline, theyd say He must have had another Gu. YES, I DID! LETS GOOOOO! I also used the Gu Roctane Endurance Energy Drink (both with and without caffeine), Gu stroopwafels, and the Gu Roctane Protein Recovery. Its all that I would consume until dinner. This combo was enough to sustain me every day when riding and left me feeling great. The only thing that I wasnt happy about was that a few of the packages leaked. I wish I figured that out before I was on my trip. Fortunately, I kept them in a Ziploc bag, so the mess was contained. Still, my fingers and feedbag got gooey and sticky every day. The good news is that it washes easily with water. Even with the leakers, I still give this 5 stars.

So yummy! I prefer this and the chocolate one over the fruity flavors. Tastes like dessert!

I have trained for 3 marathons. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE THINGS. I cant handle the vanilla or any other flavor but this mint one. They boost my energy and keep me running. Store easily in my water belt and I also sometimes tuck them in my bra strap. If you are a runner, you know what places we can fit things. Tear open easily while Im running, even with sweaty hands (I dont stop to open them). Cant rave enough about how great these things are. I know there are a lot of different types of energy gel brands, but if you are trying one out for the first time, try these!

I’m pretty bad at fueling during my long runs and usually procrastinate until I crash. I did an impromptu marathon without running longer than 12 miles in months. I drank a pedialyte the night before as recommended & started fueling around 5 miles. The first GU I took was without caffeine, then every thirty minutes or so I consumed the Espresso Love flavor GU (which has 40g caffeine). I sucked on it over a period of miles (with sips of water) until I finished it. I had 5 or 6 GU’s total for my marathon. I never crashed or hit a wall, although I was running with a friend for their first marathon so I was going slower than usual. I never had GI issues, I believe because I took these slowly. I also alternated between Gatorade & water at the aid stations, focusing more on water because I figured I was getting enough from my GU’s. I’m not a fan of the fruity flavors but I’ll be buying cases of the Espresso Love flavor. I believe they were a big factor in making this marathon go perfectly.

Ive been using these for whenever I go on a run longer than 8 miles. The taste isnt amazing, but its the best Ive tried so far, and I love the little extra caffeine boost! I take one a while before starting the run, and then usually take another one about halfway through, before I start losing energy. Dont put the empty packet into your pocket though, because its not really empty and will harden to the inside of your pocket and be a total pain to clean out. You just have to carry it with you until you come across a trash can.

Admittedly, the “thicker” flavors are a bit more difficult to get down, especially if the get cold. But I’ve adapted to it. I’m not sure there’s a Gu flavor I don’t like. I’ve been using them for years and will continue to. I also like that they participate in the TerraCycle zero-waste program.

I love the variety of flavors and these are excellent pre-workout in the morning before the gym. I definitely feel an energy boost and I am not as sore as I am without it. If youre not used to these gels, they can initially be a turn-off, but now I love it. This is my favorite energy supplement so far.

Had them in the past - hopefully the recipe hasn’t changed much. Will update review when I try new flavors. *update* chocolate is my favorite, tastes just like frosting! The caramel ones have a weird aftertaste but nothing unbearable, and the vanilla bean is great to use (personally on an empty stomach).

Love this. Im one of those rare women that can live without chocolate. Yet when I do indulge, I tend to go for the after-dinner chocolate mints or peppermint patty-type of candy. I dont use the packets. I have the coordination of a drunk bear and after cutting my lip trying to open a packet, I bought one of those flasks that you can add sports gels to.This is great. I also like the GU Chocolate Outrage, but this one is more liquidy whereas the Outrage has the consistency of icing, which is okay, but not when someone (me) needs a sugar boost. This has the consistency of chocolate syrup. The flavor is perfect. I have this on monthly order through Amazon for the simple reasons that a) its rare that you can find this flavor in sports stores, and b) my husband treats this like candy.

GU Original Sports Nutrition Energy Gel is the energy gel that started it all. In 1993, Dr. Bill Vaughn developed the world"s first energy gel to help his daughter perform better during ultra-marathons, and GU has been helping to propel the world"s most successful extreme athletes to success ever since. GU Energy Gel sustains all forms of athletic activity with a highly compact, portable, and calorie-dense packet that is loaded with carbohydrates that can be rapidly absorbed. Branched-chain amino acids limit muscle fiber damage and increase speed of recovery, and extra electrolytes help maintain water balance. Some flavors feature caffeine to increase concentration. While the original formula has been tweaked and evolved over the years, the end result is still the same: GU Energy Gels fuel the best endurance athletes in the world. GU Original Energy Gel comes in a wide variety of great tasting flavors. Each packet contains 450mg of Amino acids, 100 calories, and at least 21g total carbs.
