> 3 dayI never really can tell whether these gels work. Is it all psychological, or can your body really use those extra 100 calories, now? Regardless, for 8+ mile runs, I tend to use a gel every 5 miles. I know that the caffeine gives me a mental pick-me-up toward the end of a run or race. I tend to alternate caffeine and no-caffeine gels, and I make sure I have one for mile 22-23 during a marathon. This caramel macchiato is a pleasant enough flavor, but I have to admit that I buy whatever is the best price point. This last time, it was... caramel macchiato!

> 3 dayFor intermediate to long runs, I always start first thing in the morning and before breakfast. I find that morning runs that start with an energy gel go much better than an empty tank, but doesnt weigh me down like a full breakfast. You definitely need water when trying to down the thick paste, however. Its like super viscous brownie batter. The taste is good enough. Youre not going to be jonesing for an energy gel snack any time soon, but youre not grossed out by the flavor.

> 3 dayLove this. Im one of those rare women that can live without chocolate. Yet when I do indulge, I tend to go for the after-dinner chocolate mints or peppermint patty-type of candy. I dont use the packets. I have the coordination of a drunk bear and after cutting my lip trying to open a packet, I bought one of those flasks that you can add sports gels to.This is great. I also like the GU Chocolate Outrage, but this one is more liquidy whereas the Outrage has the consistency of icing, which is okay, but not when someone (me) needs a sugar boost. This has the consistency of chocolate syrup. The flavor is perfect. I have this on monthly order through Amazon for the simple reasons that a) its rare that you can find this flavor in sports stores, and b) my husband treats this like candy.

> 3 dayI always used to think that all these energy products were a scam and they would give no energy while riding. But then one day I purchase a pack of GU espresso love from a local shop. I used the Gu 40 miles into a 70 mile ride. it was a hot day and I was feeling very tired. I took out the pack of gu opened it up and took a gulp. The consistency is kinda weird, but not bad. And what really surprised me was the taste. It tasted very nice and I actually liked it. After 10 minutes I was feeling much better and I felt more energetic. The gu helped me a lot and I easily made it to the end of the ride feeling fine. I have tried Hammer Gel espresso but it was a little too thick, but it did have a more natural taste. But I am sticking with this stuff, it really works. Only CON: You have to open the packet which might be a problem if you cant no hand or ride with one hand on a bike. Not a problem for me, but might be for some.
