I purchased this soldering iron for use with stained glass after reading numerous reviews that it was the best. Overall, Im pretty pleased. It heats up quickly and changes temperature quickly. Ive used it to make several large glass-foil projects and it worked as expected. However, it isnt ergonomic. The area to hold the unit is rather large and slightly difficult to grip. This is aggravated by the cord being stiff. (Stiffer than my previous no-name soldering iron) The stiff cord causes the unit to rotate in my hand and changes the angle of the flat tip. I will try to rotate the tip so it rotates to the desired position, still, perhaps a soft rubber grip area would fix this, or more flexible cord for sure. Dont get me wrong. I like it. But if this is truly the best....

Lite to work with, good temperature control. I haven’t found any negatives yet. I used it on stained glass sun catchers.

I had a cheapie soldering iron from a tool outlet and an old Weller gun about to give to the ghost. Using the new Hakko FX601 is like comparing a Porsche to a Rambler. I do vintage train repairs with lots of wire soldering and occasionally brass or copper metal working. This iron is a gem, pun intended. Heats up very quickly, maintains temperature after cleaning the tip, and between solder joints. Tinning wire ends has never been easier or quicker. I barely have to touch a join before the solder flows, and stays flowing until I remove the iron, preventing cold joins. I rarely need any heat setting past the third one, but the high heat is there if I need it. Also bought the smaller chisel tip to have better placement of heat in small areas. A high quality tool, well worth the higher price. I could never use another!

The soldering iron works really well. Even though I had a problem the seller has helped quick. I am satisfied and can recommend.
