Diatomaceous earth really helps to reduce the number of bugs in my space, and the duster included with this bag is really helpful for spreading it around indoors without creating a ton of visually obvious powder areas. You can puff it onto white walls and ceilings, and it’s basically not noticeable. I’d been putting diatomaceous earth on carpets and other places around baseboards and under furniture, too, which could look a little poor in some areas, but the duster included here helps me to diffuse more discreetly, and I even put a very thin layer over most of the open carpet area in my room that’s not really visible. Diatomaceous earth isn’t a 100% fail-proof solution all by itself, particularly for sugar ants (I recommend Terro and always keeping all foods well-sealed) and gnats/fruit flies (red wine vinegar and soap, fly paper, keeping the area clean), but it does seem to be one of the very best tools in my arsenal against insects. In combination, diatomaceous earth, sealing door and window gaps, Terro traps, a fly paper trap, and a vinegar, sugar, water, and soap trap when necessary seem to take care of 90-95% of bugs in my otherwise fairly vulnerable faux-studio bedroom space, and I reckon that diatomaceous earth does about 50% of the work. It seems to be particularly effective against spiders, thank god. Fortunately, I haven’t had much of an issue with houseflies, but I would guess that it would be somewhat effective for them, too, if you’re willing to diffuse it onto walls and window sills. Unless, I accidentally drop a large amount on the carpet or something, I don’t really vacuum this up or anything; I just apply every 6-12 months over as many surfaces as I feel I reasonably can, and I’m willing to accept a slight white cast or occasional white spots on surfaces and the risk of some minor skin irritation (not that I’ve really noticed any, apart from applying the product by hand) over having a lot of bugs in my space. I didn’t really use a mask or anything the first couple times I applied this stuff everywhere, which is probably really stupid of me as it’s not great for your lungs, so please take caution in that regard. My hope is that once it’s out of the air/settled, it’s not much of a lung health risk even if applied over a huge number of surfaces in a space, but it is a potential risk to be aware of.

To be honest I am not all together sure what its actual use is, I just know I read it could get rid of fleas. It does do that temporarily. Should you be using it for that DO NOT use the spryer that comes with it. I did and it got everywhere, I literally had to clean it off of everything in my room. The better albeit harder way to do it is to find something to put it in and sprinkle it. When my sister used it she used a mason jar and poked holes on the lid. If you have a tiny flea problem this will solve it for a month or so, if you have a big flea problem you’re looking at it lasting a week at best. Again, I don’t know what it’s actually used for, so this review is based on what I used it for.

Good price, we love using DE for many things...except consuming!

I got this product to sprinkle around my windows to keep ants out. Well, after digging through the bag of super fine powder to get the applicator out, I found dust everywhere...then I read the label, which says to avoid inhaling it and use a respirator and goggles during application. I was bummed because I have pets, and everyone says food grade DE is safe for use around people and pets - but its clearly not, for this type of application. Even closing the bag spouted dust...and the zip on the bag does not close. I poured some outside, but its so fine it just blew away and didnt go into the sidewalk cracks I intended it for. I couldnt even sweep it into place. Disappointed to say the least (for my intended application)! Im giving it 4 stars because if used as anti-caking for animal feed, maybe its awesome!! But not easy for novices to apply...

There was no powder duster included in the bag. While Im sure the product will function as intended, Im disappointed. Its difficult to dispense without the puffer.

Great product! Use it in the garden and make my own supplements with a capsule filler and a little bit of citric acid. The 4lb bag at this price gives me plenty for both. The applicator/blower is garbage. Upside down does just a little bit more than nothing. Outlets on the bottom will blow 90% of it out in the first two puffs and leave you with a stopped up mess, and after just a few tries the sides of the bellow are starting to wrinkle and bind. I ended up using an 8oz squeeze bottle and thats worked out perfect for the garden application. It can be very messy working with such a large bag so recommended that you use it outside with good air flow.

I purchased these for use against Argentine ants. The included duster doesnt really dust so much as shoot a stream, so maybe purchase a separate duster if you just want a fine layer. If youre fine with just blasting diatomaceous earth everywhere, then youll be fine with the included duster. This stuff works well against ants. For Argentine ants in particular, use it dust around entry points. Itll cut up and dry out their exoskeletons to kill them, but ultimately it only acts as a deterrent. Ants will stop coming from where you dust and generally stay away from the dusted areas, but they will just find another entry point. This is a band-aid and not a solution. Diatomaceous earth should be used to corral the ants to places you dont mind them being, where you can deploy further baits and potentially pesticides to actually solve the problem. While useful, it should be used as a part of a more complete home infestation treatment. Sprinkle diatomaceous earth where you dont want ants, but keep it away from baits and pesticide treated places so the ants will properly find the means to eliminate themselves.

I thought I could use this to cover the soil of my plants to prevent fungus gnats but I was wrong! However, I just got a dog so I will be using this for her food to keep the bugs out. Loading the puff is difficult & can easily get messy
