These dont have too great a smell of their own, by me, although my extremely sensitive sibling may disagree. They do cut most of the smoke that drifts through our apartment walls, but still not completely effective against both the putrid electronic air freshener that comes through from the apartment below us, and whatever (rot? mold?) is behind the wall by the vanity that the pipes run through - we havent found anything that kills those, yet.

I used the filter in my small salon suite while performing nail services. I was getting dry burning eyes because of the fume exposure from acetone and Gel Polish. It was also nice to have when I was performing pedicures from all of the dust from filing. The filter was great at removing the airborne particles. I would also let it run when I left the room with the door shut and come back to an odor free suite. As for home use, I keep it running in my bedroom, especially at night, knowing I am breathing in much cleaner air. I applied a strong peppermint essential oil to a tissue and placed it on the intake side of the unit to test the ability of odor filtering. I was happy to note that there was absolutely no smell present in the output. I sometimes turn it around when its stuffy so the air being exhausted blows on me, like a fan. Great filter!

Since the smog from the fires coming down from Canada - I have been having trouble breathing but this has been helping me breath in my house. Just if you have the hepa setting on in you holmes filter put up some construction paper or something on the wall behind it because the crap that it catches and spews out the vent is - well gross, but its good that it is getting it - just dont put your face over it while it is running. It might not be as bad now that I dont smoke cigarettes anymore. But I can feel the difference when it is running and when it is not. I think most of the smog from the wildfires in Canada has moved away, but I still live in a major city (Philly) so it doesnt hurt to run it whenever I am in the living room.

Just keep these changed as they should be and the purifier will work better.

dirty air goes in, clean air comes out. You cant explain that.
