This KVM was so easy to set up and it works flawlessly allowing me to switch between two desktop computers and not give up desk top space.

As far as switching between 2 PCs are concerned, the product works. However... this model combines mouse and keyboard into single output plug -- Im not sure if this is a good idea. Yes, it frees up an extra USB port on the PC. But in my experience, all the other USB ports on the PC are rendered unusable. Im using a powered USB hub, a flash drive and a printer plugged separately into 3 open USB ports -- all were unrecognizable. After unplugging the KVM switch, they all work fine. Note: the GCS42UW6 does not include audio port or remote switch, and no hot keys. UPDATE: The

I was a bit dubious of getting a KVM switch because of all the bad reviews Id seen, but this one works. Every once in awhile, itll glitch on me (and then its just a matter of pressing the button on it and switching it from one machine to the other and then back again), but other than that, its worked fine. It was also really easy to figure out the installation of it too.

I purchased this little box to switch between my Win XP desktop computer and my Win XP laptop. I have a USB keyboard and USB mouse. Unlike some other KVM boxes out there, this little guy switches very fast. It switches in about 1 second. I read that some others switch over in 6 seconds - yikes. That would drive me crazy. I use both computers while I work so I am constantly switching between PCs. I dont use the monitor switching though, so I cant comment on that. The button to switch between PCs is the circle black button in the top center of the unit. A red light tells you which PC is currently hot, which is handy. My only wish would be that I could get a remote, so I wouldnt have to stare at this huge box all day. Id prefer to hide it away, and get a smaller remote that I can use to switch PCs with.

Ill be honest, I actually havent used it (the GCS42U)yet, but I called IOGEAR tech support because I was having trouble with the I did buy (GCS32U). It turns out the GCS32U doesnt work well with a wireless Keyboard and Mouse that uses a single USB connection. They state that this (GCS42U) does. Hope this helps someone to not go through the pain I did...

Works perfectly. Already have one that Ive used for about five or six years with zero problems.

Pro: Simple, Cheap Con: TOO simple - a paddle-switch would allow for more out-of-the-way placement of this KVM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wanted something as simple, and as cheap, as possible to replace a KVM switch which I used at work. Simple: Because the previous KVM had the ability (as do many) to allow switching between computers using the keyboard. That unit had selected a double press of the control key as the switcher. Sadly, Windows, UNIX, Linux all make extensive use of the control key, and so I was frequently switching computers when I did not want to. It was not possible to change this key assignment. This unit switches by pressing a button on the KVM box. Cheap: As it is used at work in a shared, unlocked office ... not that anyone WOULD... I have used it about four months now, and have had no problems with the switch - only with those who did not understand how it worked and who kept unplugging the cables. In retrospect, it is a bit too simple, and, if it should disappear, I would get one having a paddle-switch as a replacement - as it would be nice if the KVM box did not have to be on the desktop where it can be reached. Other than that, I have been very happy with it.

The IOGEAR 2-Port Compact USB VGA KVM allows users to share a VGA monitor, USB mouse, and USB keyboard between two computers. It supports multiple operating systems including Windows, Sun, and Mac. Users can switch between computers using a manual switch located on the top of the KVM unit. Being cabled based, users do not have to purchase additional cables in order to use the device. It is entirely plug-n-play and requires no software to run. It is also powered through the USB bus and thus does not require a separate independent power supply to run. It is the perfect KVM for those who want a well-priced, basic KVM that will allow them to multitask with two computers at their disposal. This 2-port KVM also offers a cost effective solution to increase security by allowing users to switch between the Internet connected PC and an Intranet connected PC.
