The step in the instruction that is skipped is to turn the lamp on first. OK, maybe I should have known that....but..... They do work.

The product does what it says. It turns on or off if you click a button in the app. The app also allows scheduling. But the app does not seem to allow good control of the device (e.g., turn the socket on if a smart bulb installed on the same app is on), which to me is the main point of having a smart device. Since the device does not work with at least one other platform that allows this kind of smart programming (Smart Life app, that Ive been testing), I find its use case very poor in comparison with the competition. And it does not measure power consumption, another big minus. I saw good reviews of this product, including in the Wirecutter, but the limitations of the app are not clear from the product information webpage, so I returned this.

This is my third purchase and I am definitely fascinated, especially with a puppy at home if we are late the light is turned on directly from the app. We have located in the balcony, each beds side, dining room and kids room. The only problem is that my husband downloaded the app (hes more technological than me) but the Amazon/Alexa account is under my name (Im in charge of the purchases haha) and they dont work correctly, I tried to download the app to also have access and I couldnt because it kept downloading and how I configured the Alexas with my account my husband was left out and now they no longer work through it so we do it from the app. Apart from that are magnificent ..

3 working units for a couple months now. No hardware issues, or problems connecting them to network and existing hub. Issue is the iOS apps user interface. Not intuitive and poor layout. Takes way too long to setup a schedule.

Outrageously easy to setup and use. Full disclosure: I dont have it it integrated with Alexa or any other smart ecosystem device - just controlling the individual plugs from the Kasa app. If more needed in the future, will absolutely buy again.

    Greater than one week

I needed a way to remotely turn on or off some circuits in my house. I am not yet using Alexa integration, just the iOS app. Installation and onboarding of the 2 plugs was simple and took less than 5 minutes to bring both plugs online in different parts of the house. They are sold by TP-Link, a fact I didnt realize when I ordered. Knowing they were a TP-Link product would have made my decision to buy this product a little easier because I have good luck with TP-Link networking products with the exception being they are slow to update firmware. My biggest negative is the size. As you can see from the pic, it fits somewhat on a power strip, but it takes out the outlet to the left and right if placed anywhere but first or last outlet. I know the Expressif systems-on-chip well. They are the microcontroller brand most often used in WiFi connected products these days. I have Expressif boards the size of my thumbnail so I know it is possible to shrink the footprint. I suspect theres a relay, some other components such as capacitors, resistors, the led-illumation and pushbutton, and thats about it. The size may be due to the power requirements to handle several amps of power. In conclusion, I need to set up a more complete home automation system and do some more research before buying more. But I would not hesitate to buy these again if they continue to meet my requirements.

Love everything about it. Works perfectly. Alexa intervention is perfect too. Only thing is they are a little bigger than I thought they’d be but not too terrible

I LOVE this brand!!! Ive given all the other kooky brands away to neighbors and bought all Kasa plugs and bulbs. I got one as a gift 6 years ago and love it. It still works, btw... Im a little behind the times and JUST started changing everything over to wifi. The first bulb I set up took about 5 minutes but everything after that was super quick. The Kasa app is super user friendly, which we appreciate because were old, and now our lives are so much easier. Crazy how something that once seemed so frivilous is now such a huge part of my everyday life. haha I no longer need to search for light switches or get out of bed because I forgot to turn off the wax burner or the spa lights. HIGHLY recommend Kasa!!! If I can set this stuff easily, ANYONE can do it!! Also, its fun to think of Alexa as my personal assistant. haha

I got my first TP-LINK Kasa plug (There does seem to be several seperate Kasa or TP-LINK brands, I only own TP-LINK Kasa devices, referred to from here on out as just Kasa in this review) bundled with an Echo Dot. I had used WEMO plugs, and figured what problem is 1 non-WEMO plug going to do? Well, it caused me to replace every non Kasa device with Kasa devices! Shortly after I got this, we bought a new home. I packed everything up and set it up at new home. Internet and WiFi settings were different, and I had to re-setup everything, I mean everything! This is were I fell in love with Kasa. The WEMO app had been nice enough when originally setting up, but when it came to having to delete/re-connect things, the WEMO tested the limits of my patience, multiple times. I finally had to delete even the WEMO app and reinstall it. The Kasa app just seemed to flow better, smoother, easier. The Kasa had everything wiped out and setup back up with new name, device icon and label in no time, and then pumped it into Alexa! (I have the Echo Show 10 with built-in Zigbee Smart hub) It had more options when it came to labeling and device icons (what you see when accessing through a smart device like Alexa, Google Home, etc). The plugs I use for lamps or lighting, I like to show as a light bulb, and WEMO just couldnt or wouldnt let me do that. The Kasa plugs are half the size of my WEMOs. They dont block the other plug outlet. They have an independent on/off switch, so you can manually turn on/off plug power. I had multiple WEMO devices, and replaced them with Kasa equals. I am so happy with the ease of use of the app, smooth integration with Alexa Smart Home and overall operations that I just ordered the first pair of Kasa Spot wireless outdoor cameras to integrate into our home security system! I would highly recommend the TP-LINK Kasa mini smart plugs! The app is great too! I was not paid or compensated for this review.
