Sorry Amazon. I am loving my new Kobo Libra 2. I have owned four Kindles in the past and they always seemed to have something lacking for me. I have the latest Kindle Paperwhite but somehow the touchscreen was at times either too sensitive or not sensitive enough and I got frustrated. I went back to using my ancient Kindle Keyboard since I liked the buttons for page turning but it was not backlit. I considered the Oasis but got so turned off by the cost, the mini USB and the extra $20 for no ads. I had heard about the Kobo Libra 2 and decided to try it when it was on sale. Since I borrow e-books from the library a lot, it is so easy now. Love the page turn buttons and even the touch screen functions are not frustrating. Glad I made the purchase.

In the past I have always been a hardcore nook enthusiast, I thought Id try something different with this Kobo because of the reviews. I absolutely love it, I did have to get used to the large side lip, along with it feeling larger than my nook, only because I do not or did not use the physical buttons on either of the Kobo or my old Nook. But the extra options on this Kobo are absolutely beautiful. I am addicted to the dark mode and have not gone back to the regular reading mode since I got it. I definitely suggest getting either a cover with a handle, or like I did, a handle that sticks on a piece of Velcro to attach to the back. Without a handle, youre definitely going to smack yourself in the head if you tend to read at night lying down. One bad thing I have noticed is that the battery life is not as good as on my old Nook, I do have to charge it probably twice as much.

Purchased both this and the Paperwhite 2021 version and I like this one much better. The screens and lighting are very much similar but the Kobo has the added feature of adjusting the brightness by dragging your finger on the side of the screen while still reading. The Kobo has the physical buttons which is nice but the best feature of the Kobo is that it is very easy to hold due to the casing material used. The Paperwhite material is very smooth and constantly slides around while holding it. This was the major drawback between the two. I also like the Kobo user interface, it seems more polished and has more options. Kobo can also play many more book formats without the need for conversion. If you are in the market for an ebook this is highly recommended. Only problem at this moment in time is trying to find an appropriate cover. They still have not hit the market yet.

The Kobo Libra 2 lets you do exactly what it says it can do, read books and listen to audio books. For me this means I have gotten back into reading books daily and feel a positive mental change. Towards the end of a long day at work, instead of wanting to drink, watch online streams, and pass out, I was eagerly awaiting to get home to relax and just finish reading my book. Before going to sleep everyday, I read for at least 30 minutes before my brain decides its time to put the device down and sleep. As opposed to before purchasing the Kobo, I watched YouTube videos about people doing things I will never do and then woke up with my phone on the screen that asks me if I am still watching. By no means is this device a tablet like the iPad or android equivalent, so it cant do anything fancy. In my case that is a good thing, less features, less distractions, which means more reading. If you try to compare the speed between a tablet and the Kobo, its a joke. Sometimes it feels like the speed of technology spoils us and occasionally the processing speed of the Kobo bothers me, but if you are older than 25, you know the old dell computers that ran on Win XP or the first generation of smartphones would take forever to load anything. Battery life lasts a long time for me, only charging bi-weekly, I never notice it drop to the bottom. There are a few brightness options including natural light, that is easy on the eyes, especially at night, which is when I use it most of the time; so I am not exactly sure how long the battery will last if you are a day reader on a higher brightness percentage. In-terms of the feel of the device, it is very intuitive. It is about the same size as an adult sized novel and you have the options of swiping, tapping, or pressing a button to change pages. The Kobo always remembers where you left off on every book youve read, so you cant lose your place. The weight of the device is quite light, I doubt anyone would have an issue holding it; people with medical issues could probably still use the device well because of its light form factor. I downloaded nearly all my books online with epub or pdf formats and then imported them using my computer and the Kobo processes all of them them very well and allows you to customize the font and line spacing to suit your preferences. The main reason I chose the Kobo Libra 2 was because Amazons Kindle line comes with two options for every model. One with ads and one without and I simply did not want to play that game, it just rubbed me the wrong way. Imagine buying a device to read, purchasing books, and then still getting ads on your device. I would lose it. Despite that, I have heard good things about Amazons audible integration, but that wasnt what I was looking for. The things I havent used (but might try later) are the kobo store, how audio books work with its Bluetooth connectivity, and the overdrive system, so I cannot give an accurate review on those aspects of the device. 10/10 would recommend to anyone that wants to get back into reading.

I switched from my kindle paperwhite 10th gen to a kobo libra 2 and I have no regrets. Ironically this is my best amazon purchase. I love the white clean look to mine, the buttons have spoiled me but I also just tap and swipe. I love how the kobo tells you how long youve read and how many books you have completed, those tiny rewards. Also access to overdrive on the kobo! Game changer. Kobo doesnt bombard you with book suggestions like kindle does so I feel more comfortable checking my home screen. Plus the organization by most recent books, authors, etc its superior. And for kobo, you can import books from non kobo to your kobo, like repubs, etc. I use calibre to organize my ebook library and adding the books to kobo is wonderful, stress free when you figure it out. With calibre I can edit the book cover which is a blessing because some ebook covers on kindle....arent the ones I want. So changing them to be what I want to see if glorious. I love my kobo, and am happy to leave the amazon kindle world. Yes kobo has less titles but every small company starts somewhere and kobo has better ethics and morals than amazon does.

I needed a replacement since my Kobo Aura 2 died after taking an unexpected bath in condensation water. Yeah, I stupidly left it in a spot where room humidity became water and steadily dripped on it until I found it in a puddle. So, for a week, I tried going back to regular paperback books. Once you go ebook reader, you really cant go back. You miss all the extra features that you get accustomed to using. And the Libra 2 is a step up. As it is a little bigger, that means the print is a little bigger. That is so much easier on my old eyes. The edge that has the two physical buttons on it makes it easier to hold and even operate one-handed (I often snack while reading). It does also have two features that I doubt I will ever use. One is Overdrive. My library dropped that service in favor of a similar one long ago. So this software just takes up space for nothing. The other is the ability to play audiobooks if you have compatible headphones or speakers. I do own a few audiobooks, but it is just handier for me to play them on my home computer, where they reside. If I could make two suggestions to Kobo for the future: 1) Make library borrowing software optional. One should be able to visit the Kobo website and install it if needed. Software for similar services should also be available. 2) Create a text-to-speech feature. Give the user the option of selecting the gender, age, and accent of the voice, to make it more appropriate to the type of book being read. Since I tend to fall asleep while listening to stuff, a timer for it to auto stop would be nice. I am told that this reader is waterproof, so I hope to avoid a repeat of what cost me my Aura.

The unit died the first day I used it, screen froze and no response, could not shut off or reset. Amazon return was painless, they sent a new unit the day I contacted them and instructions on return, took it to Kohls and took 5 minutes to complete. The Libre 2 is nice works great (so far). Easy to use and screen is very good. My daughter has the new Paperwhite, a much better built unit and the screen is better than the Libre 2. I may order one of them for myself as a back up.
