The Kobo Libra 2 is a very nice ebook, as ebook readers go. I bought it because my library has tens of thousand more epub books than kindle books. There is two major problems with it; 1. Read the fine print about library books and Kobo. IF THE BOOK DOES NOT EXIST IN THE KOBO STORE THAN YOU CAN NOT GET IT FROM THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. 2. Do a search on the end of Overdrive. The company wants to terminate the Overdrive app and plans to do it by the end of 2022. It is pushing all libraries using Overdrive to switch to the Libby app. Libby is a great app but it is not on Kobo. If none of the above bothers or affects you then go for the Kobo Libra 2. If the above concerns you then get a small Android tablet or iPad mini or use your smart phone. All support Libby and complete access to your library. Advisorys: Amazon Fire MAY NOT support Libby so be careful there, also Color tablets are not great in the sunlight. Happy Reading!

This Kobo is fast, very bright, and overall works well in day and bright mode. I preferred the text and screen overall to the Kindle Oasis and the battery life on both is great. However, that’s where it stopped. The Kobo is still bulky compared to the Oasis as well as feeling and looking cheap. The interface is much clunkier and generally annoying, and all of the features on this are available for the most part on the Oasis, but done better there. I ultimately returned after using it a week and went back to the (you guessed it) Kindle Oasis. It’s a shame that a brand new ereader can’t rival it’s two or so year old competitor.

I LOVE my kobo, this is my first e-reader and I tested a friend’s kindle, and watched MANY YouTube videos before choosing what to get. I love the way that the kobo libra sits in my hand with and without the case, I have side loaded books with calibre, I’ve used the kobo store and I’ve used Libby to read library books and they all work. I’ve been using it almost every day since I bought it and I’m very happy with it. For battery life, I’ve noticed that using Wi-Fi drains the battery way faster then if just reading, so if you are in a situation where you need the battery to last longer (like an international flight without charging) I would just turn off the WiFi to save battery.

The settings are easy to use to make reading easy in all kinds of lighting. The black letters are crisp and stand out well. Syncs and updates easily with OverDrive & Libby. Easy one-hand operation. Only con so far is when reading in the dark I set refresh screen to every 10 pages. Wish I could turn off refreshes in the dark. Otherwise better experience than the 3 year old Kindle. The slightly larger screen is nice. Had I realized the size value I would have purchased the Kobo Sage 8 inch. Even so, the Kobo 2 physical page up/down are just perfect (except for the little click with each push). Its so easy to turn a page with my thumb without moving my hand or using my other hand. I really appreciate that!

So far, I have read Fitzgeralds The Great Gatsby, Dickens Great Expectations, Wildes The Importance of being Earnest, Homers Odyssey, Gilmans The Yellow Wallpaper, Joyces Ulysses, several Philip K. Dick short stories, and I am working my way through Homers Iliad. It fits in the back pocket of my Levis, and anytime Im waiting for an appointment or have a little down time, Im reading on it. BTW, a good source of older books is The Gutenberg Project -- they are all free!

First off, lets say that this is a great ereader that I actually liked it better than Kindle Oasis 10th generation. Some people criticized its plastic shell, but I actually liked it. I think the plastics made it lightweight, easy to hold, and not metal-cold in winter. Battery was good, letters were sharp, and I enjoyed reading at night with this device in hand. But I returned it. Reason 1: Lack of synchronization. Although Kobo Libra 2, as a standalone ereader, is great, it does not sync well with the PC app. I did not test whether it syncs with an iPad Kobo app, but google tells me that it only syncs with books purchased from kobo website. Kindle, google play book, apple books, all beats Kobo in this essential function. Reason 2: lack of accessories. Along with Kobo Libra 2, I bought a Kobo origami case. The case was great, worked as intended, but it added a significant weight to the device, made it not very pleasant with the floppy back. I returned it. I prefer a sleeve case, a pouch, so when I read it can be held in my hands, and when I dont read it can be protected. Amazon is filled with pouch/sleeve cases for Kindle/paperwhite/oasis, and all kinds of ipads. None fit the kobo snugly. They were too big, too small, or too rectangular, etc.

This feels really good in the hand. I have a couple kindles and i like the physical buttons to do the page turn. ease of borrowing books from the library is a plus too Updated review. After a couple more days with it and going back and forth between it and my kindle paperwhite, this is a lot easier to hold. One handed in a lounging position it really just fits better. I do notice the operating system seems more responsive. I am continually impressed!

El tamaño está perfecto, los botones son silenciosos (hacen muy poco ruido), la luz puede ir desde lo más tenue hasta lo más brillante.

I wanted desperately to love this e-reader, I value accessibility and was over the moon with the hyped overdrive capability and epub use-ability. I scoured reviews and spent weeks deciding, and was beyond disappointed when I got the reader set up. It was not clearly stated was how epubs are read on the device, they require the use of Adobe Digital Editions and and activation/download via PC. For me personally, I do not have regular access to a PC which means in order to download epubs I would have to seek out PC sources where I could download the necessary Adobe software to transfer over the ebooks. Not only does the aforementioned pose significant issues but the capabilities with overdrive are lack luster. My library card gives me access to three separate library systems and in order to sync up my loans I needed to sign out of my over drive account and switch systems despite my library card and overdrive account granting access to each system. You also cannot search in all of your accessible overdrive accounts via the device and must sign in and out to see if one of your libraries carrys the book you are searching for. Which wouldnt be an issue if the sign in was easy, unfortunately it is not and all credentials must be re-entered each time, a difficult task with e-ink and secure passwords. At this point I wish I had just gotten the kindle, I cant read most epubs on this device and it doesnt work with overdrive as advertised. So for me there are no upsides to this device, kobo has a smaller and often more expensive library compared to kindle, you are forced into using Adobe software to read epubs which strands you if you dont have regular access to a PC (at that point I would rather support calibre to convert the epubs to mobi, whats the difference if both devices require file conversion?), and the overdrive capabilities are clunky and unreliable.
