> 3 dayThis works very well. It locks in place and then retracts easily

> 3 dayThis works, but I found that for the price, the quality could have been better. I ended up returning it and went to the store to buy a good old Stanely tape measure. But this would definitely work for most people in a pinch. Or who doesnt want to go to the store to purchase a tape measure.

> 3 dayI liked that it auto locked. But I noticed when I pulled it out to about 10 feet it was trying to suck it back in. So I had to hold with two hands so it wouldn’t cool back into itself

04-04-2025For some reason, tape measures grow legs and walk away in my household. My father and I both have our own collections of tools, and when something needs measuring, neither of use can seem to find a tape measure! I got this one to keep in my Husky roll away work station. I reasoned that its bright green color would help it stand out among my old black tape measure and my fathers chromed units. And stand out it does! Every time Ive needed a tape measure Ive been able to easily locate this one. The automatic brake on this tape measure has taken some getting used to. The only other auto-braking tape measure my father and I have used is the old motorized Black and Decker unit he got as a gift years ago, and it too has grown legs and walked away. As I use the tape more though, Im growing to like the auto brake more. Its nice to quickly pull one or two feet of tape out and not worry about getting whipped by the tape when I invariably forget to set the lock. But that raises a question: How durable and reliable is the brake in this tape measure? Ive only had this tape measure for a month and it only sees slight occasional use, so I cant answer that question. The whole unit feels well made though, so I hope that the brake is just as solid.

> 3 dayAs soon as this tape measure arrived, my husband said and I quote, “I am so jealous!” He has the standard tape measures, but none are as substantial as this nor have an awesome locking feature that the Komelon has. I needed this in my nursing job, where I have to measure distances that people are able to walk in their homes. This is easily read from a standing position when it’s on the floor and stays in its locked position. Big, hearty recommendation!

> 3 dayPros Self Lock mechanism (this is awesome) - can be operated with one hand. Nylon coated blade - more durable and less likely to cut your hand. Rubber grip - comfortable and easy to hold. Cons Measurements printed on one side only (most tapes are also one-sided) No dual imperial/metric units. I originally purchased this tape measure thinking that Self Lock might be useful, but probably overrated. What a surprise. It was immensely useful. There is no longer the need to manually lock the tape in position every time it is pulled out. If the tape is attached to my belt, it can also be operated with one hand. Rubber grip surrounds and protects the body while making it comfortable to hold and easy to use. The rubber is also on the opening to act as a buffer protecting it from rewinding forces. Pressing and holding the button will rewind the tape, although I would recommend gradually guiding the tape back by hand. The nylon coated blade will not cut your fingers. The green accents are interesting, distinguishing itself from all the other yellow tape measures. 5/8-in. width tape allows it to be lightweight and compact. However, the short-width tape begins to sag at 3 ft., and collapses at ~5.5 ft. Komelon offers .75 and 1 in. widths with their longer tapes if needed. The measurements are only printed on one side in case anyone find themselves in a situation where they need the other side, although this is intentionally a one-sided tape so it is not really a con. It is too bad Komelons Self Lock series does not offer dual imperial/metric units. This would double their usefulness. The Self Lock mechanism makes this an excellent tape measure and a pleasure to use. I also have a basic non-Self Lock Komelon with imperial/metric units, and keep coming back to this one even though it lacks metric units. Now that I am spoiled by Self Lock, I dont think I will ever go back to manually operated tape measures again.
