Really disappointed in this product and support. This was the first La Cie/Seagate hard drive I ever purchased (I have always used Western Digital drives, but this was was the only portable one at 8 gb) and it will be my last.

I purchased this case because its rugged and can handle the travel I do with it. I have a small HD on my laptop so I needed a device that can be powered from the port on the laptop and allow me to use it on the plane, at the airport, in the car or out in the middle of nowhere. It can take a fall with the rubber around, but I do take care of not dropping it too often or from a high distance, from about a sitting position to the carpet or grass.

I was ready for a screaming fast transfer from my USB-C laptop. Not so. It took 4 hours to backup the laptop. I wouldnt have spent this much if I had known...

I have purchased 3 of these Lacie drives! I am so happy with the performance! I carry one with me at all times and it works perfectly.

    Greater than one week

This Lacie Rugged Raid Pro is such an awesome tool to have, especially for pictures, videos, and finished content. The protective covering definitely helps with small drops! The fact that you have flexibility in terms of choosing your storage plan is also really cool. You either have the option to use all 4 TB of storage, or to use 2 TB of storage and have it mirrored (this is definitely something that I wish other external hard drives had too).

Not at all worth the money. I have had LaCie drives before and am very disappointed. It has trouble being recognized by my Mac. It disappears from my desktop and I have to reboot the computer to find it. Tech support is a joke. Their assistance is worthless. They agree there is a problem and then take a month to get back to me. I finally told them I had it working sort of, to put an end to it. LaCie charges a premium. Not worth it. Once you get your info on the drive you cannot very well return it with all your data on it- the warranty is not really usable.

The HD is great. But the thunderbolt connection that was the wrap around cord connected to the HD was not the correct connection to my new Dell laptop. But it does come with other connection options. It’s just that cord is permanent on the device itself.

This is a flexible drive with 2 Firewire 800 connections and one USB 3.0 connection. The USB 3.0 is also backward compatible with USB 2.0. So you can use this with so many configurations. After several weeks of usage, transfer speed for 100 GB is averaging 5-7 min. Good product and highly recommended.

Just wanted to post a warning....this product comes up first when searching for a Thunderbolt 3 HD on Amazon, which I did, searching for an external HD to use for Time Machine backups on my new Macbook Pro 16 (2019, with 4 Thunderbolt 3 interfaces). THIS DRIVE DOES NOT HAVE A THUNDERBOLT 3 INTERFACE, rather, it comes with a Thunderbolt 2 /1 integrated cable, permanently attached to the drive. So, if youre looking for older Thunderbolt 2/1 compatibility, then youre good. Otherwise, if youre looking for Thunderbolt 3 speeds, DO NOT TREAD HERE. Fortunately, it also comes with a USB-C port, and a cable, so you can still use it, just at a slower speed than Thunderbolt 3. USB-C = 10Gbps. Thunderbolt 3 claims 40Gbps. As of this writing, youll have to pony-up upwards of $350 for a 6TB external HD that claims to support true Thunderbolt 3 (on Amazon, at least). Suggest checking elsewhere, at the time of this writing.

Desperately looking for an external hard drive to boot my Mac from temporarily until I could get it to the shop for a replacement hard drive. Seemed to take forever to install the backup, even using the thunderbolt connection. Will be good to have as a future portable backup, however!
