I have been using an MX518 for several years. My previous one served me well for a very long time, but had finally started to wear out. Happy with its performance, I ordered what looked to be an identical model. I was not entirely happy with the build quality. Although it has the same model designation, this mouse is clearly made with cheaper materials than my last one. Everything from the thickness of the cord to the weight of the mouse itself is nowhere near what the previous unit was. I am the type of person that once I find something I like, I will continue to buy the same thing again and again. Although the replacement mouse has functioned fine thus far, given the changes in build quality I will likely not automatically purchase the same unit in the future.

    Greater than one week

I purchased this to replace an original MX518 that I had for years. Overall this new version only looks like the original. The new version feels cheap and slippery. It doesnt slide smoothly over the same desktop and the roller wheel is noisy.

As soon as I opened the box I saw the top mouse pad was missing. This type of QC issue doesnt occur on the $5.00 mouse you get at a big box store. I expected better from a mouse marketed as a gaming mouse.

I can’t come close to guessing how many mice I’ve used in 30+ years of computing. Up until 2007, I used whatever mouse came with the PC’s we had at home and work. By 2007, we needed (I wanted) a second PC. My wife and daughter were happy with their Dell desktop and HP laptop, so I built a desktop for me, choosing an Eclipse II lighted keyboard and MX 518 mouse. I loved that keyboard and mouse. I did some upgrades over the years, but in 2013 a surge fried the MB, and I did a complete rebuild. I continued to use the Eclipse keyboard, but the 518 was getting a bit hit & miss by then. I replaced the original 518 with a G400s, but that was a piece of junk and didn’t last long. I got my 518 out of storage, took it apart, cleaned it as best I could, and got a couple more years out of it. After a rebuild in late 2019, I retired my original 518. After being disappointed with an inexpensive Redragon mouse and a $60+ Corsair M65 mouse, whose left button didn’t last a year, I ordered a new MX 518. I wish Logitech had brought back the silver, dented look of the old one, but the shape has always been perfect mouse for my hand. As to the Eclipse II keyboard, I finally retired it after 11 years in favor of a Redragon K556 brown switch. No regrets. I love the K556 even more than the Eclipse.

Ive been using the mouse for couple of days and I notice the new Mx518 have some minor flaws compare to my current old G400. Build quality was consider a downgrade, thinner plastic and the weight feels lighter and not as balanced as well, making it more difficult to move the mouse smoothly. Ergonomics with the Mx518 not as comfortable as the G400 since the buttons is harder to click, my hand feels tired after using it for a while. Also I experience occasion stuttering with the mouse I think the sensor not tracking properly, and the new GHub software has less customization with no option to activate mouse acceleration. Its best to just buy another G400 or the G400s version if my current one has worn out.

Been using these MX518/G400 series for over 15 years now. This new model is my 4th one. It’s so perfect I can’t use any other gaming mouse. The only downside of the new model is the top surface is too glossy. When my hands sweat it gets a little dirty. But it’s lighter and faster than the previous model so can’t complain as much.

Best mouse I have ever used. I love the accuracy and the way the mouse fits in my hand comfortably for gaming. Play all types of games from FPS to games like WoW. This is an older style and is harder to find. I have bought 4 of these for backups just in case something ever happens. The one I am using has been in place for over 8 years and chewed on by my cats. Still works great. Would highly recommend.
