The advertised lumen value seems to be accurate as compared to my other flashlights. But despite Asian manufactureres having long-since perfected the necessary optical characteristics of zooming a spot-to-flood flashlight, American manufacturers still cant manage to create a ZOOM flashlight without causing a large black spot to form within the light spot, in addition to greatly losing the uniformity of the illuminated area, when zoomed to the flood setting. But strangely, I bought Maglites Camo 3AA cell zoom flashlight version for a friend, about a year ago, and it didnt have this problem. So, I expected that the 3D cell one would work as well. But it didnt. In addition, this unit seems unnecessarily heavy...as I have 2 other 3D cell flashlights that are considerably lighter in weight.

I like how the beam can light something up from far away so I use it as a spotlight when focus it to small beam

Its a maglite! Awesome flashlight. Stronger than I expected. Its range is very long for the lumens it has. After owning this I dont see myself buy more expensive made in China high lumens lights. This American made light is all I need. Primary roll is for home use and protection. I take it when traveling with family. Heavy duty quality, very bright blinding led light, and u can smash a bad guys face with it. Good for your night stand or vehicle. Highly recommend this.

Occasionally I have to work late hours in places that dont allow firearms. Blunt objects dont really fill the gap, but its a lot better than nothing. The 3 D-cell is heavy enough to do the job, yet compact enough to swing fast. Its easily stowed in a backpack until I head out to the parking lot to go home. Went for the LED because its bright enough to temporarily blind someone and has better battery life. Makes me laugh when people complain about the size and weight of D-Cell Maglites. For most of us who own them thats the whole point. Yes, I have small LEDs that will out perform it, but they wont knock out a crackhead. Not into camo, but I knew it would be 3rd generation LED so I can live with it. Update (11/22/13) Flashlight still going strong and serving me well.

I thought this was going to be the best flashlight for me but its not perfect. The light is good, the battery life is excellent, and I thought the construction of the bulb was superb.... Until the rubber button fell out exposing the on/off switch. Thankfully I found it and put it back into place, but I had to put some tape around the button in case it ever wanted to fall out again, I wont loose it. I wish I didnt have to tape up a 30 dollar flashlight.

Good: 1. Quality of the build is excellent. Body is made of aluminium or some similar metal. 2. I luv the camo design. It is unique and is a conversation starter in a group. 3. Very bright LED and the focus can be adjusted by twisting the head. 4. The serrated body helps with having a good grip in your hands. Not So Good: 1. The battery cover was very difficult to close as the spring tension is very high. 2. Not available in 2D size. The 3D size is good but it is longer and heavier so your hands will get tired fast. Overall it is a great product.

Ive been using Maglites for almost 30yrs. The only problem Ive ever had was, I loaned one of the 2-AA models to a buddy, he liked it so much, he never gave it back. My sons were telling me about the newer LED models. I was a little skeptical at first, so I bought the 2-AA model. Was very impressed with the results, so I ordered this one. Very happy with my purchase. Quick shipping from Amazon. Maglite has never had to New & Improve their basic design, because they got it right the first time. Simple and durable. Keep an eye on how long the batteries have been in and DONT loan them out.

I love Maglites. I do. They are amazing. They are strong, heavy duty and offer some awesome light. They are also great to keep in vehicles. You never know when and if you will need a flash light so we keep one in each room of our house, along with each vehicle. Here is the less commonly stated side...if you are ever in an emergency this flashlight makes a wonderful weapon. I have scared off a would be attacker with my 3 cell maglite. They are amazing. They are strong, heavy duty and last forever if well cared for.
