Fantastic. Not your home router with dumbed down elderly compatible interface. However its not so complex where everything is done in a terminal. Nice gui, features, speed, and great value.

very fast router. I have replaced a rb2011 with which managed 65 users through simple queues, qos via queue tree, balancing loads of 3 wan via vlans, more than 30 firewall rules and another 30 in mangle. in the peak hour 60 megs were spent with an average use of 70% to 90% cpu. now with this new router 3011 the same work consumes between 8% and 11% cpu

    Greater than one week

I am an engineering prosumer in the sense that as a teleworker, my day to day usage of bandwidth is pretty sizable (multiple machines on multiple VPNs, many connected devices). Having bought and configured the routerboard a few months ago now, Im kicking myself for not doing so earlier. Not only does it do exactly what I need, but I found the RouterOS command line interface quite intuitive to learn and use. The metrics are also fantastic for debugging what went wrong and for analyzing usage. I actually discovered through inspection of server logs that an IP address in China was attempting to brute force login to an SSH gateway I had set up. Moments later, I had a firewall rule that blackholed all traffic from that IP and I could visualize how many packets from that source was being dropped. Needless to say, I have been impressed by the routers versatility and configurability. For interested buyers, I would recommend anticipating banking at least a few hours to learn the system and get the hang of things. One thing that could be improved somewhat is the documentation, but so long as you take your time and reason about what is happening, things generally work as intended. That said, for many users, I suspect the default configuration will be enough to get you going.

Work as a professional router at lower price. Never need to restart. Al device connected is efficient whit this Router.

Solid router with a significant amount of configurable features and advance features. Unfortunately, the router OS is generic and it has features listed that the hardware isnt capable of using, and there is no way to tell what the router can and cannot do without additional research. For example wireless. Its not a wireless router, but the OS has wireless features and settings. The touch screen isnt really intuitive, and its a capacitive screen rather than resistive (i.e. it works like early 2000s touchscreen smart phones - think palm pilot, not like todays). Still one of the best routers on the market.

This ARM version doesnt come with usermanager (looks like it was discontinued). Awful capacity also....

A very nice gigabit switch. I have two now. Nothing against routerOS but I have reflashed mine to run openwrt - they have a custom build available if you search for rb3011 in the forums. I set up vlans and keep all my traffic separate. The rack mount tabs can be turned 4 directions - I oriented mine upwards and have installed the switch to the underside of a shelf.

i ordered this because it is a dedicated router and will not share cpu power with a wireless card so it should be faster. well at least in theory. i have built routers from repurposed machines in the past and am familiar with several open source operating systems. ip fire monowall untangle and clearOS, to name a few. i will see how this performs in comparison and keep an objective opinion. stay tuned for updates. i uploaded some initial specs not found here in the site. looks like this thing will do some work in a short time. i will update long term on this review later.

There is only one reason this gets 3 stars instead of 5. Its the total P.O.S. power supply connector. Unfortunately this thing doesnt have an internal p/s, it uses an external wall wart. The circular DC power connector on my unit is poorly soldered / connected to the PCB. So if you bump or wiggle the connector on the back of the box, the unit will reset (power failure). So its possible I got the only bad unit, but I dont dare return it for another because Im afraid the replacement will have the exact same problem. Would I pay an extra $20 for Mikrotik to put a real p/s internal to the unit? Absolutely. Mikrotik, if youre reading this, PLEASE stop using these external wall warts. I cant imagine anyone wanting to deal with wall warts in a rack environment. The same goes for your switches as well. So if I had to do it again, I would likely pay double for the ubiqiti competitor even though the price is double. The quality control here of the solder joints just arent reliable. Here comes the duct tape to hold the power connector stable.

The RB3011 is a new multi port device, our first to be running an ARM architecture CPU for higher performance than ever before. The RB3011 has ten Gigabit ports divided in two switch groups, an SFP cage and for the first time a SuperSpeed full size USB 3.0 port, for adding storage or an external 3G/4G modem. RB3011UiAS-RM Unit comes with 1U rackmount enclosure, a touchscreen LCD panel, a serial console port and PoE output functionality on the last Ethernet port.
