Greater than one weekMy partner and I have a number of pets including sugar gliders, whose cage we put in a finished room in our basement to keep them out of reach of our cats. The only problem with that is that the basement doesnt get much natural light, and for creatures from sunny Australia, thats not too natural for them. After much research, we selected this light as it best mimics the spectrum of natural sunlight and is large enough to illuminate their VERY large cage. THE GOOD: This light is really well protected from paws, claws, and teeth, as is the metal-clad cord. It feels incredibly sturdy and well built. The light it emits is bright and radiant, and when put on a timed outlet, provides adequate natural illumination to mimic the daily sun cycle. THE BAD: The included brackets do NOT fit the light whatsoever. Basically, you get a long bar light with 2 wide U-brackets, shaped like this: |___| . You put the light bar down in the seat of the bracket and then affix another bar over the top, with holes for the legs of the bracket and wing nuts that affix them. Heres the problem with that: the brackets I received were not tall enough to affix the bar over the top and still screw on the wing nuts, no matter how hard we tried. We tried multiple positions on the light bar, bracket right side up and upside down, etc. No dice. So if we could not do it just with the light bar, you can imagine that there was no chance the brackets would accommodate both the light bar and the cage bars to affix it. We ended up having to use just the metal zip-ties they intend for you to use for cable management to affix the light bar, as my partner, my dad, and I were all 3 unable to make the bracket work. All in all, the light is great, but be prepared to need additional equipment to mount it if you have stronger pets (such as birds) who might be able to pull it out of the metal zip ties. Perhaps I was just sent the wrong size bracket meant for a smaller light, who knows. It worked out in the end but did NOT have the sound attachment to the cage I had hoped for due to incorrectly sized mounting accessories.

> 3 dayI bought this light for my 15 month old male cockatiel and I absolutely love it! My house can get pretty dark on dreary days and I was concerned my feather baby wasn’t getting enough light on cloudy days. I bought this to ensure he always has enough light and it works great! I bought the largest sized one and the amount of light it gives off is perfect! I do have one qualm with the product though...THERE’S NO STINKING ON/OFF SWITCH!!! I understand that they market this light to be used with a timer, but why can’t it also be designed to be turned on/off with a simple switch!? Not including an on/off switch is such a design fail that I simply can’t give the light a full 5 stars because of it! I did buy a timer to use with the light and it works great with it, but still I’d like to be able to control it with a switch because life doesn’t run on a perfectly constant schedule. It’s just so dumb... When looking into buying this I saw a lot of people who complained about the cord. I personally haven’t had any issues with the cord yet, but then again I’m choosing to use it with a timer. I can however see how someone who doesn’t use a timer may have a problem with the cord breaking from overuse. So if you get this do yourself a favor and get a timer! All in all, if you’re needing a light for your birds cage this one is awesome! It’s sturdy and actually has a guard so your bird can’t chew into the electronics, but keep in mind it’s not perfect. If you don’t mind that this light has no on/off switch then you’ll be more than happy with your purchase. I’m definitely annoyed with that one detail, but I still love this light and am overall happy with it.

> 3 dayWe liked the lamp. It just stopped working - the first one about 9 months after we received it; the second one 6 months after we received. Its solid state LED so its a short - maybe a mfg design defect? Bummer - certainly wont buy a third.

> 3 dayPurchased for our juvenile pair of Indian Ringnecks. I didnt realize how dark their 30 x 30 cage was until I added this light. It is sturdy, very bright and as advertised. It really made a difference in showing our their plumage but it was purchased to benefit their health. Very pleased. This replaced a pedestal, free-standing cage light which was inadequate. I placed it on a bar above the cage to avoid any possibility of them biting it and to minimize the chances of it getting wet from bathtime. The bar is plugged into a smart outlet that turns on at 8:00 am and off at 8:00 pm to ensure a consistent light-dark cycle. The birds are well rested and ready for action in the morning and when that light turns on over their cage, they start their plaintive peeps to make sure we uncover the cage and give them their veggie breakfast. When it turns off at night they peep until we cover the cage and then chortle their thanks before heading to dreamland.

> 3 dayAs much as I love this light it has only lasted 4 months before being nearly destroyed. I have a almost 2 year old blue and gold macaw who gets very creative in destroying new things. I set it up as instructed but she has still managed to peel the cage/protector part off and unscrew the “buckles” that secure it to the cage (double parrot cage kings cages). Due to her repeated mischief there are very few led lights that are working on it and several of the metal bars are bent and broken. She is only in her cage for up to 8 hours at most in a day with her usually out for longer on a normal day. Have to say I love it but macaws exceed expectations. Update: I have had the light for almost a year now and it is completely dead. My macaw managed to peel off the metal guard to the point I cannot put it back on. I decided to leave the light on the cage to provide some brightness but she has finally made it so not a single led will light up anymore. Kind of a waste of money...
