> 24 hourBefore buying a receipt scanner like this, ask yourself how you plan using it. Weve used the Visioneer Paperport Scanner for over 10 years for my wifes tax practice. We scan all documents we get from the clients as backup. The Visioneer performed well for us. It was fast. We never used any character recognition as speed was the key feature we wanted. We had a preXP model so we had to upgrade. This is where we made the mistake of buying the neatreceipts. We thought it was going to be fast as visioneer. Even with the character recognition off, it was damn slow.Completely unacceptable. But in all fairness to neatreceipts, it might be a good scanner for somebody looking for OCR scanner to link to expense reports etc. If you need speed and you have a lot of documents, sad to say this is not the one. FOr a few receipts each time, maybe OK. So it goes back for a return.

> 24 hourAs a road warrior, managing my travel expenses has always been a time-consuming chore. And the occasional lost receipt as well as non-billable expenses incurred while traveling (which are nevertheless tax-deductible)have probably cost me hundreds of dollars each year. I wondered whether this device would really be more effective than a regular photocopier/scanner and the answer has been a resounding YES. The software is very intuitive and it is now a snap to process all my receipts and develop my monthly expense reports. The software is very well designed and allows you to split receipts, drag and drop from one expense report to another and indicate whether an expense is personal or billable (which means I am now capturing ALL my travel expenses.) My only criticism is that there isnt a way to just manually enter expenses for tips. I work around that by creating a hand-written receipt for tips for each trip. Hopefully theyll address this in a future software update. I am recommending this to all the other consultants in my company -- after all, if you save one potentailly billable hour of time, it has more than paid for itself!

> 24 hourI read the very positive review of this gadget in one of David Pogues recent NYT Friday articles. Hes such a switched on guy and thus I ordered one straight away. I travel to interstate jobs and I get reimbursed for cab fares from and to the airport etc. This scanner reads the receipts, I can input the category of the expense, the vendor etc etc. I can specify whether it is an account, a receipt or just a document being scanned. I can specify if it was a personal or reimbursable expense. It can be converted directly into a pdf file. I bought a new piece of equipment for my home theatre this week and I have copied the receipt and printed it out onto a full sheet of paper for warranty purposes. (Ever had a warranty issue and cant find that tiny proof-of-purchase receipt a year or two down the track?) Im also using the scanner to copy all my petty cash receipts for the month. The software then enables me to print out a list of that months expenses and it adds em up and totals them too. It will scan documents from the size of a small receipt up to a sheet of letter stationery. BTW you can scan in business cards and the scanner will tabulate the addresses, phone Nºs etc. Sure I can use my big desktop scanner, but its a hassle to set up and warm up etc. This small USB-driven scanner is portable and instantly usable.

> 24 hourBUYERS BEWARE: I suppose it is slightly my fault for not reading through all of the reviews, but you have to be aware that this product is at least 7 years old. (It only supports Windows 2000, XP, etc [Outdated Operating Systems], minimum requirements were for a Pentium 2, 800 Mhz, as we all know computers are much faster these days). In addition, you get to spend a lot of money (195) for this product, then you need to spend even more money to receive an updated software for the unit. I couldnt even say if this unit would support the newer 64 bit Windows, but when I saw the condtion of the box when I pulled it out of the Amazon box, I knew instantly that I would be returning this product for a refund. I wasnt willing to give it a shot in the least when I saw that the date on the box was 2005 as well as the condition of the box. At the very least, this seller should provide the updated software for the outrageous price of the product, but that is just my opinion. Especially since they are charging the user more for an outdated product when you can get a newer updated product for less. If you want a current up to date unit, I suggest that you purchase the

> 24 hourThe product did not live up to my expectations after a strong plug by a QuickBooks Proadvisor. I found the folder storage awkward and inadequate. The scanner did not read the amounts accurately. It didnt learn by reading the same type of receipt multiple times. There was too much data entry to do after the receipt was scanned which completely defeated the entire purpose for me purchasing the machine: cut down data entry time of receipts into QuickBooks. The product was very easy to link to QuickBooks and export but it exported the entries as general journals which is not an acceptable quality of bookkeeping for me. There are precious few user instructions, as well. My conclusion is that it is completely inadequate from a professional standpoint. It might have some value to an individual who wants to replace their paper receipts with electronic copies. But thats about it.

> 24 hourI would have liked it a lot except that the product I recieved does not scan properly. Half of the scanner does not scan color images and when using black and white documents half the document is darker than the other half. This is right down the middle of the page from top to bottom. I will not be ordering anything from that seller again.

> 24 hourNR Scanalizer Pro is a lightweight, portable scanner for tracking business expenditures, for business cards and any other documents that need to be organized. Once you complete the required Learning Curve, it becomes a useful tool for anyone with a small business or on the go that desires to track and manage costs, create expense reporting and useful for tax purposes. Export data to Quickbooks, Outlook, Word, Excel and can convert data to PDF, CSV & HTML. I just started using this new scanner, so I rated this scanner at 4.2/5 Stars and probably should have ordered two, one for my office and one for the road! Of course, well see in 6 months whether its still functioning or it has become a wall sculpture! *One obvious important drawback to note is its Very Limited Warranty, so I took out an Extended Warranty thru Amazon and is what I would recommend to anyone that is going to purchase this scanner. And although its not compatible with Macintosh, by the time you read this it wont make any difference as the new Dual Core Macs do Windoze now. UPDATE - August 2010 - After playing with it for a month, the main Scan Button didnt work, but the 2nd button did. Got bored so I put it away to play another day. This month we started archiving a bunch of old documents, and we really needed a Sacnner now, I went on-line and saw how much these Scanners have increased in Price! Then I remembered that I still had the Windoze model, was brand new in the Box, so instead of purchasing a $400 dollar new one, I just bought the Macintosh Software for 70 bucks, and Presto ... I had a fully Functional Mobile Scanner that Now works flawlessly! * Stay away from the Document OCR Scanning Option, its Worthless, besides a PDF & JPEG files works much better. 4.5 Stars!

> 24 hourI did all kinds of research online for a compact portable scanner to help me with document reduction. I finally decided to go with the Neatreciepts scanner after considerable research across all kinds of sites including watching the downloadable Martha Stewart review from their web site. My overall impression is that its a great concept but the way the product delivers is less than perfect. The Scanner: The one thing I will say about this product is that its compact. Its very small, much smaller than other desktop models Ive seen and it draws all of its power from the USB cable making it truely convienient. However, my big problem was with getting it to grab and scan the document. When you feed a sheet into the scanner, it prefeeds the document a slight amount to prepare for the scan. However, once you push the scan button (either on the scanner or in the software) it rarely pulled the sheet through without me needing to give it a push. I tested this with an 8.5 X 11 document and it only grabbed the sheet correctly 20% of the time. The Software: This is where I was most dissapointed. On their website the software was billed as a being able to categorize and database reciepts, documents, tax forms, business cards, etc. In reality this tool was built to categorize reciepts effectively and do other documents as an afterthought. This is most evident in the softwares single-minded focus on trying to categorize everything you scan as a reciept. I scanned in my paycheck and it categorized ny employer as a vendor and my salary as an expense. I had the same problem with scanning in documents. The categorization had to conform to the types of categories used for reciepts. Not good. You can turn off the OCR and manually categorize your information, but you still need to classify all documents as some kind of reciept. I saw this problem on the Martha Stewart clip where her recipe cards were classified as reciepts where the vendor was the name of the recipe - I should have realized then how big the problem is. Okay aside from the categorization issue the biggest problem was that many of the documents I scanned were returning errors when they were scanned into the system. This supposedly was with their most recent version of the software. The verdict: If youre looking for a scanner to scan only reciepts then this may be the product for you. Otherwise Id suggest you keep looking.

> 24 hourI just received my NeatReceipt scanner today. I paid over $160 for this thing, so I expected it to be awesome, you know? Ok, after 2 hours of fussing around with it, here is my initial review: 1. The scanner is kind of budget looking. I dont know why, but I got a cream colored USB data cable with mine - personally I think it looks unprofessional since it doesnt match the unit. 2. The calibration is annoying. They include the calibration sheets with the unit - you cant scan anything until you use the sheet. Thats fine with me, but based on that information, I have to keep the damn sheets because I format my PC about once a year and it wont work if I dont keep the sheets. Ugh! 3. The software: awful! The software was clearly outsourced. The company did a poor job focusing on what features are important and what features are not. Here are my general complaints about the software: - Its slow. It takes 30 seconds to boot and I am running a $1500 Dell PC. - Its not intuative. Once you scan an image in its hard to manipulate (e.g. zoom in) on the image... - Scanning multiple documents is super hard. I thought you could just scan in each page of a contract in and then merge them together (that seems like it would obvioulsy be a feature, right?) but you cant. You have to open the program, make a new document, and then go to the software and go to Scan->Scan Additional Image to add a second page to a document. Its so dumb that you cant merge... that makes no sense! - Speed of the scanner is not that impressive. I just scanned a 2 foot grocery receipt in and it took about 25 seconds. I thought it would be faster. - Scanning in long receipts = problems. The scanner cut out 3 times while it was scanning and did not complete my image. Overall: Product is not ready for market! Wish I didnt spend the $160 since I could have gotten a really nice high-res scanner for cheaper. Thinking about sending it back but I bet the return policy from the Amazon seller I got it from is awful.

> 24 hourIve owned this scanner for several months now. With the original software, the system would produce an error and no-scan about 25% of the time. After an hour or so with a very pleasant customer service rep, we gave up to wait for the upgrade. That came last week and now it wont run at all. Much better systems available.
