NOW L-lysine 500 mg, 250 Capsules

I have been taking this for years and not gotten one single cold sore.. where I used to get them all the time.. If you are bothered with constant cold sores this is the remedy for you.. only wish the capsules were a little smaller..

I take this everyday because I get cold sores. When my son was first born I decided to start donating my breast milk. But if you take the rx to get rid of your cold sores you can’t donate that milk for up to a week after you stop the rx. With the lysine I can donate while taking it, so super safe (according to my dr and the human milk bank) to take while pregnant nursing. I also double up the dosage when I’m getting a cold sore and the healing time is cut down so much!

I was surprised when the Doctor suggested this supplement for small flat bumps that were appearing on my fingers. This doesnt seem like the primary use of this supplement. But one a day has kept the bumps away. Buying through Amazon has meant I could buy in quality and got me the best price.

Now Lysine is really good and its price point is very competitive with other brands of lysine that are on the market. I have always had a good experience with Now Lysine products and I would recommend them and I would recommend their lysine product.

When I search for NOW L Lysine 1000 mg it quickly comes up with a bottle that says 1000 mg. But when you click on it, it goes to the writing and it is changed into L Lysine 500 mg. I had this on auto ship but now have cancelled that order. I tried 2 times to talk to technical assistance and thought I had this corrected. But I got caught again. I do like the 1000 as that is the dosage the doctor had recommended for us. So for the price, it is more expensive because you are getting just half of what you think you are getting. If you want 1000 mg, you must take 2 tablets instead of just one.

So far so good, I bought it to help with acne and treat it a more natural way, I was on antibiotics for years and it would work on and off. So I did my research about supplements that directly help with skin and work from the inside, Im giving this a 4/5 starts because Ive only been on it for 2 weeks and my skin as been clearling up however, I cant directly say its from l-lysine. I believe it helps with in combination with some other vitamins Im taking

L-Lysine is an essential in my diet. If I dont take 1-2/week, I get cold sores. I take L-lysine daily during cold/flu season, and I havent been sick in years, so its a great anti-virus for me (and I work with children so Im exposed to a lot of germs). I would highly recommend L-lysine. I purchased this particular brand of L-lysine for the 500mg capsules because they are easier to swallow than a some of the brands with larger doses (1000 mg). However, I was disappointed when I ordered the smaller bottle to discover that the smaller bottle contains tablets, not capsules. I prefer the capsules for both swallowing and absorption. Sometimes when I take tablets, they dont seem as effective for the same milligrams so any of you who find the tablets to not work for you may want to consider trying the capsules instead. I removed one star just because I think they should make it more clear whether you are getting capsules or tablets, but otherwise these capsules are a good product.

This is a great product for cats with feline herpes virus, an incurable and unpleasant respiratory illness that causes the cat to continually sneeze and suffer from sores in the mouth, discharge from both eyes and nose, and possibly tooth resorption as well. Although there is no cure for feline herpes and the infection is lifelong, l-lysine does a great job of eliminating the respiratory symptoms since it inhibits replication of the virus. This is well worth the expense of the supplement since feline herpes if untreated can lead to blindness. NOW foods l-lysine is the same strength as Viralys, which the vet prescribed for my ill cat. She did not test for the disease but told me to try Viralys and if it cleared up the symptoms (which it did) then the cat has herpes and needs to take l-lysine every day. She said that l-lysine is harmless to cats without herpes so there is no need to go to the expense of lab tests; just see whether or not the supplement helps reduce symptoms. I open a capsule and mix the powder into a small amount of baby food chicken and the cat eagerly licks it from the spoon. My cat is small and I have found that in the absence of stress, giving the medication once a day is adequate. Stress, illness, fleas, poor diet, extreme temperatures or anything else which can negatively affect the immune system may cause the feline herpes virus symptoms to re-emerge, so if I notice a runny nose then I step up the dose to twice a day. If you are on a really tight budget you can purchase one-pound containers of l-lysine such as Vitacost L-Lysine Powder 435 mg which has 822 servings for under $10. Viralys costs twice as much (about $22) on Amazon for 100 grams, and it is also loose powder so dosing again is approximate. The Viralys container does not specify how many servings are included so it is hard to compare price with the NOW product. Lysine is a godsend for shingles but when I have an outbreak I have to take A LOT of these. These 500mg capsules are easier to swallow than the 1000mg tablets but I prefer the tablets bc of the larger dose in one pill. I try to take 1-2000mg/day for maintenance and up to 10,000mg/day during a breakout depending on how fast I catch it and how bad it is. Either way Lysine is a must! Aside from that it seems to brighten my complexion and I think it helps a bit with nerves and stress. Tip for taking the larger 1,000 mg tablets: First, drink some water before to ensure mouth and throat is not dry. Then when taking tablet, let it swim around in your mouth for ? 5-10 seconds ? just long enough to dampen the outside of the tablet. Even better, take it with a heavier liquid like juice or milk. When I start to feel a tingle on my lip, I know I’m about to get a fever blister. I hate those things! I take one of these as soon as I can and it won’t form a blister. I don’t take one every day, just when I feel one coming on. Depending on when I take it, it may have to be more than one day in a row that I take it. It totally works.
