Greater than one weekWorks extremely well with Linux kernels 4x 5x, and probably others, as it has been around for a while. I didnt really need an external enclosure for my drives until the march of time removed the 5.25s out of my favorite case manufacturers.. No matter, thats what this thing was made for, and it will work well with the standing desk (with an extra long usb cable, which works great). The device enumerates perfectly, and has been in high rotation for months backing up media on the ol plex server. The aluminum case is awesome, and its high quality- The mount mechanism is solid, so you dont get any crazy vibration, even when some of your media is less than perfect. From a cost perspective, it was a bit more expensive than normal, but hey- it works, and it has a great company standing behind it. Completely recommended.

06-06-2025I successfully burned a dozen BDR M-Discs using this drive, and they all passed their integrity tests 100%. Everything went flawlessly. I used K3B on Manjaro Linux (KDE) for the software. The USB enclosure works perfectly as plug-n-play, out of the box, and the drive within had a success rate of 100%, with full verification, of engraving a dozen write-once M-Discs. (I even made ECC files for the ISOs using dvdisaster version 0.79.9) I might update this post to see how well it works with BDXL M-Discs (100GB). For those of us archiving irreplaceable memories for future generations, I recommend you leave extensive notes within the sleeve or jewel case of your engraved M-Disc so that whoever comes across it will have full instructions on how to read the data, while understanding the technology and history behind it. Maybe make a time capsule and include a USB cable, type-A to type-C USB adapter, a Blu-ray burner/drive, and power cable (such as this one), and anything else that someone long into the future could use. Remember, technology moves fast. There will come a time where its plausible that USB (of any form) no longer exists; Blu-ray players are no longer manufactured and its rare to find any in working condition; the x86 CPU architecture is no longer used in any computer systems; and so on. Dont believe me? How easy is it to come across a working Hi8 player without sacrificing too much cash? How easy will it be to come across working VHS players 10 or 20 years from now? How easy is it to retrieve the audio from reel-to-reel tapes? All of these things were readily accessible within the generations of people alive today in their childhood years. Thats not very far into our past as humans! So consider what 50, 100, 200 years from now will look like? Will someone be able to read what you engraved on your M-Disc? Will they have the software and hardware to do so? Just because the disc is still in pristine condition and the data exists in a perfect state of bits and bytes, theres no guarantee that someone will be able to retrieve whats on it. Make it as easy as possible for future generations, whatever it takes. Good luck. As for the drive and enclosure itself, it feels rugged and well built. The chassis is metal, feels like brushed aluminum, and the bottom side has four plastic rises to reduce vibration while it is in use. Of all the options on the market, this is very likely the best one out there.

> 3 dayThe aluminum body is amazingly thick for how much I paid. It will definitely protect the drive. So far I have had no issues. Definitely would recommend.

08-06-2025Take note..this is only a case, not a drive. To install a drive you simply slide it in,unplug two connectors, plug them in to the USB connectors on the board in the back. Secure the drive with some screws and youre done. Took me under 5 minutes to set this up. The USB interface is USB 3.0. Ive been using it a few months and no bad burns, max speed with this setup for cdRs is 40x- good enough for me.

> 3 dayVery nicely made. All metal construction. Calling it a drive enclosure doesnt do it justice. More like a mini computer case. Easy to mount your standard 5 1/4 SATA Drive in the slide out chassis. USD to SATA converter is mounted on this chassis, too. Also has an on/off switch. Only quibble: Even though there are grommets for shock mounting the drive, there are no shoulder screws you would usually find in this application- just standard drive mount screws. Longer lasting polyurethane isolators instead of standard rubber grommets would have been nice, too.

> 3 dayGreat unit that takes up minimal desk space and is pretty fast using a USB 3.1 connection. I recently bought a very nice laptop and decided to make it my desktop replacing a 2010 build. Problem was no built in DVD/Blu-ray, as is the case with a lot of desktop cases now too. So I did some research and decided to give this model a try. I wasnt dis-appointed. Its a nice metal frame that had all of the required connectors. It does need to be plugged into AC but not an issue for me as done plan on traveling with it. Just plugged in my player, connected it up to laptop, turned it on and it was immediately picked up by Windows 10 - easy. I dont use the player everyday but so far its worked great with no issues. I nice option to have if you are on of the old school needing a player/recorder. Do receommend

> 3 dayWorks exactly as it should. I added one of the nice LG BR/DVD drives into it, never had a single problem. Never had any connection or transfer issues or disconnects. Wouldnt recommend this but it even worked, very very carefully, for an external HDD holder for a few days while I was upgrading and transferring files to new HDD.

Greater than one weekHeavy aluminum case, but front bezel is very flimsy and gapes a bit. I like the little feet underneath, gives it some air space underneath. Not cheap for what it is, but out of the 3 I reviewed, this is the one I kept.

> 3 dayokay, maybe that title sounds like a bit of hyperbole and I assure you that I have no connection to this company. But over the years I have done some electronics & programming design work myself and also quite a bit of troubleshooting and repair of computers. So I do know a good design when I see it and I appreciate it at a level of understanding that most people do not have. I also am eternally frustrated by the amount of bad design that I encounter in this world. And from that perspective I can say that this is gorgeous in every detail. If there were a Museum of Fine Design (I dont know of one) I would definitely put this there as an example of how to do things right. this is just my own opinion nobody paid me, I paid full price for the case, I have never talked to anyone involved in making or selling this case. I just know and love a quality product when I see it.
