> 3 dayThis enclosure is a very solid and hefty product. All of the eight drive screw slots have rubber grommets. It comes with rubber feet that screw on after the drive is inserted. My desk has a glass top and I was able to operate a bluray drive with almost no vibration of the enclosure. The enclose has a security slot for putting some cable in if you are installing this somewhere that needs it. The only part I didnt like was that the USB cable is comically short. For the price, would it have been too much to ask to give another few inches of USB cable? I think some of the sata cables inside my computer are longer than the cable for this drive. An enclosure like this makes a lot of sense if you still need to use an optical drive when more and more computer cases are not including slots for them anymore.

Greater than one weekI bought this optical drive as a replacement for a blu-ray optical drive that over time had failed due to age. I wanted another drive with a metal case, with very fast writing speeds, and that had its own power supply, not one running off USB. This drive satisfied all my requirements. I read all the reviews for this drive before buying. I have had no troubles at all. The drive was recognized by my Mac desk top computer instantly. No additional software to download and install. Yes, it has an LG drive inside. Why is that a problem? How many different manufacturers parts are there in a modern automobile? My other blu-ray optical drive was supplied by a company that choses the best components and then combined them for a great high quality item. I have a small and thin LG optical drive, with its own power supply, that I use with my Mac laptop and it has worked flawlessly. The writing speeds of the Mercury Pro are amazing! Sure, it does make a little noise and that is amplified by my desk but I can always put a piece of dense foam insulation underneath if a wanted less noise, but personally, I like the sound of POWER! My purchase was overkill given the features, but who knows about what I might need in the future? If you burn CDs and DVDs, especially home movies (I am the official family Wedding Videographer), then you need this drive today! My Apple authorized service tech recommended OWC and I am glad that he did!

> 3 dayFirst of, its well made, but the instructions out of the box are non-existent, but the quick start guide has a link to instruction, make sure to look at that. I say this because you might be expecting the internals to have a pcb with sata and power connectors soldered to the board but that is not the case. You have to first take of the outer shell of the enclosure then plug the cables in. Once all the screws are in place it might as well be a beefy external drive that came without any assembly required. Very nice. The biggest piece of advice is to watch what you plug into the port next to it. Im not sure if it takes up all the bandwidth allotted to the individual soldered hub on the mother board or it is a power issue, but which ever it is the enclosure + blu ray drive take up a lot of it. This cause a few issues for me like my Bluetooth devices got a little buggy bc it was plugged into the same mother board usb hub as my bluetooth adapter dongle thingy. After I reorganized my usb arrangement it was all good. Let me be clear I highly doubt this is an issue with the product and is likely due to the way power/pci lanes are split between usb headers. Great product, looks great and easy to use. Just be careful with how you sort your usb devices because I personally ran into an issue. You might not, scratch that you probable wont so buy this thing its great.

Greater than one weekThis external drive enclosure was purchased to house a blu-ray device and it does it perfectly. The USB 3 connector allows me to move it between devices (pc and mac). Also whats really nice is that it is metal and not some cheap plastic housing. Well worth the money in the long run.

08-06-2025I returned the first unit I got. The SATA power had poor quality solder points on the enclosure control board which didnt feed enough power to the Blu-ray drive. The second unit worked like a charm. My Blu-ray drive was 6.5 inches deep so if you have something longer like 7 it may not work. OWC customer service was good at troubleshooting. Overall not a bad experience.

> 3 dayI used this enclosure to replace another enclosure that had been damaged when the Roomba pulled the old one off the table. Since the DVD drive was from an LG enclosure, the bezel of the drive was proprietary. Therefore, I had to remove the front bezel from the OWC Mercury enclosure to allow the LG drive to fit correctly. The enclosure has some sharp edges that I wish had been chamfered during manufacturing to make the edges smoother. The electronics in the enclosure work well and allow faster transfer speeds because it supports USB 3.1. The old LG enclosure was only USB 2.0. Im satisfied with the enclosure.

> 3 dayThis Mercury Pro 5.25 Optical Drive External enclosure has worked very nicely. My only concern is that you need to be sure your ODD is short enough to fit. The first ODD I grabbed from my supply was too long to fit. However, I had a slightly shorter ODD on hand that fit perfectly and works like a charm.

Greater than one weekIt works and records all types of CD and DVDs, as well as some other discs that are rated to last a long, long, long time. VERY COOL. It is a USB plug-in unit, so I can use it on any/all of my computers. Excellent. Also, I said the Tech support was 5-star, but it has never needed tech support. I have had this for many years and I have had NO PROBLEMS. I wish that all electronics worked this way.

> 3 dayI used it to transfer 400 music CDs of my fathers to the laptop and it reads very fast and does so without errors as far as I can tell.
