Pokémon Sun - Nintendo 3DS

> 24 hourThis is a must buy game if you have the 3DS, and possibly even a system seller. As a pokemon game compared to the other entries in the series its great! This game improves on many of the features that needed tweeting from x and y, such as a better battle interface, a more interesting narrative (well by pokemon standards), and way better 3D models and textures. All these improvements make this one of my favorite pokemon games to date, and thats coming from someone who has been playing these games for almost their whole life. My only gripe is that during double battles the game does lag if you are using an older 3DS model, and the game does seem to be pushing the technical power of the 3DS. Other than that though I truly think that this is a great game and for nintendo fans it should hold them off till the release of their new console.

> 24 hourPokemon Sun and Moon are both fantastic games! Theres not enough that can be said about it. I came into Pokemon Moon as someone who knew of the series and enjoyed the card game when i was younger, but hadnt played any of the previous installments of the video game. So this was brand new for me, but i was able to pick it up very quickly and had a blast playing through the game. Replay value is another thing that this game has tons of. After completing the main story, there are post game missions to be completed and of course the goal of capturing all the pokemon in your pokedex. Overall its a great game and I highly recommend either version to anyone who is a pokemon fan or a fan of rpg games in general.

> 24 hourMy new favorite Pokémon title. While Im not going to talk about the plot of Pokémon Sun, I have to briefly admit that I felt zero attachment towards Lillie, Hau, Gladion, Prof. Kukui, my own mother, or literally anyone else that made an appearance in this game. The characters didnt feel very deep, let alone interesting. However, Im not saying the game is bad; I just didnt experience any sort of connection with my family or friends. I really only cared about myself and my Pokémon, who all became the light of my life. I didnt give two craps about the drama going on with Lillies messed up mother, Team Skulls ridiculous but funny antics, the Ultra Beasts, or the island challenge itself. Despite my observation on the blandness of the characters, I absolutely loved the aspect of caring for your Pokémon with the Pokémon Refresh feature that was introduced in this game and its partner, Pokémon Moon. It felt super rewarding to max out the affection meter of each individual Pokémon you caught, especially when it gave your Pokémon EXP. boosts and occasionally made them break status effects or dodge attacks because they love you so much. Im on my second playthrough of this game and am now busy trying to get every Pokémon I own to level 100. I currently have over 200+ hours of gameplay on this save file, but Im still not anywhere near done with my leveling endeavor. Wish me luck!

> 24 hourHands down the best Pokémon game since HeartGold & SoulSilver. Mixing up the formula REALLY worked for them! The new features are great, lots of old features have been revamped to be significantly less annoying than ever before (EV training, hatching eggs, showing the effectiveness of your moves if youve encountered the Pokémon before, being allowed to choose if you want to send a pokémon into a PC box or replace one of your party Pokémon, etc.), and the characters are all brilliantly written. Here I was thinking I might be finally done with Pokémon after X/Y bored me to the point where I couldnt finish it, but much to my joy I find that theres plenty here to keep me engaged. 20 years later, and Pokémon is still going strong! Whether youre an old fan of the series, or never got to it back in the previous generations, pick up this game. You wont be disappointed!

> 24 hourHave to say for this to be such a special year for Pokemon, I am rather disappointed in Sun and Moon. For me the best game for Pokemon was ORAS. So much more you could do in that game. I dont care for the Poke Finder and miss the DevNax in locating pokemon. I miss the ability to go to a route or area and seeing what I might still need to get with regards to pokemon. I dont care for the limitations in fishing and even surfing. The biggest disappointment so far from what Ive seen is the inability to re-fight trainers to level up and gain more $$. I liked that in ORAS because I enjoyed working more than one team which is more time consuming with Sun and Moon because it lacks the ability to re-fight. ORAS had a lot to keep one busy until the next new Pokemon game release. I dont see this as being the case with Sun and Moon. And the ability to catch shiny pokemon is for me more frustrating. The new method of chaining is a pain. One other major thing I dont like about this new generation game...........we cant transfer between ORAS and Sun/Moon except through the Poke Bank which isnt even available until sometime in January. The one plus I do find with Sun and Moon is the way the HMs were handled. Now that was a cool change.

> 24 hourIll start by saying Ive been playing pokemon games since red, blue and yellow and am a diehard fan of the series. There are a few things I really like about this game, but overall it is pretty mediocre. Pros : - the ride pager system is awesome. I love not having to lug around HM slaves - you can finally customize your characters appearance. There arent a huge amount of options but I still enjoyed it - rare pokemon are actually rare. I spent about 2 days fishing before I was able to catch a dratini. - lots of breeding system improvements. The breeder no longer levels your pokemon, so no worries about them ruining your prize fighter. And now that natures have hidden effects aside from stat changes I can actually hatch eggs in minutes. Its pretty great - this one could be a pro or a con, but now after you fight a pokemon once the game will tell you which attacks are effective or not. Its convenient but honestly learning your type advantages is such a major part of battling its like having training wheels on. There were times I liked it but overall it felt very handicapped to me. Cons: - I have no idea why so many reviews on here praise the storyline. It is so bland and boring. It basically amounts to my mom is mean help me un-brainwash her. Its probably fine for the younger audience, but for pokemons 20 something fans I doubt many will enjoy it. - WAY. Too. Many. Cutscenes. I seriously wanted to throw my ds the first 2 hours of the game. You cant go more than 5 steps without being stopped for very meaningless chatter. (Lets go eat this masala! Omg this island is great!) - the characters are extremely topical and boring. I was not invested in a single one, I only wanted their conversations to be as short as possible so I could go back to exploring. The pokemon thieves in this game, team skull, are so cringey. Im embarrassed everytime one shows up throwing their arms around. - rival game is weak. I know this isnt the first game to do this but I still hate it. Your rival is super friendly and kind, and to make matters worse he actually picks the starter pokemon that is weak against yours. I miss the days where your rival talked smack and gave you a run for your money. You know, like an actual rival and not some nice kid you routinely smack down in battle - the totem pokemon trials are very odd and make no sense. Im sure they added them to fit the tropical theme but they were so easy and weird. I wouldve much preferred the classic gym courses. - I wouldve been more okay with the map if all the locations werent given such silly names. They all run together for me and I have to Google a buildings location everytime I need to visit one because its very difficult to tell the difference from one city to another - the E4 members are all Kahunas that youve already encountered with the exception of one girl with no explanation of how she managed to get lumped together with the rest. It felt very random and lazy - this is probably my biggest complaint as it basically renders the game unplayable post championship. There is no good way to level your pokemon after the E4. While they have the battle tree you have to defeat red or blue before entering, and unless you just wanna grind E4 over and over and sit through all that cutscenes you literally have no way to level up aside from grinding random encounters. Its pretty unbearable Overall, 2.5/5

> 24 hourIve been playing since Red and Blue and Sun/Moon truly stand out as one of the bests in the series. Music is themeatic and colorful, the story is unique and refreshing, and visually the game is a solid improvement from X and Y. A lot of the improvements like ditching HMs, labeling move effectiveness, and the ability to raise IVs are small but greatly remove the annoyances of previous titles. Bringing back clothing customization from X and Y is great and the large amount of options make the experince as a whole much more unique. Z moves feel a lot less broken (Mostly) than a lot of the Mega Evolutions, and add another great element to competitive battles. Game Freak knows its fans and Sun and Moon never feel like a deviation of what has made Pokemon consistently a fun experience for both veterans and newcomers alike.

> 24 hourThis game took over my life for a solid week and thats totally okay (I actually bought a 3DS just for this game). I finished it with fifty hours of game play and I only wish I had slowed down to extend it. This is sooooo fun! My last Pokemon game (unfinished...) played was Black 2, so going from Black 2 to Sun was probably more eye opening for me than those who have played every game, but oh my gooooood. So worth it, it is just so fun. I love how customizable your trainers appearance is and just how different the game is compared to traditional Pokemon. I really hope Pokemon continues in this route for future games, because its an amazing one!

> 24 hourThis is a great game, though definitely a departure from previous titles in the series. I enjoyed it, but its interesting how much they changed up the formula. I really love how they simplified the format of the HMs and show you which moves are super effective. Im sure the hardcore dont need this, but if youre a casual like me or using a dual-element attack against a dual-element Pokemon this is a real life-saver. Also, I love how they removed the Pokemon Ami games in this version, I spent way too much time farming cupcakes in Gen 6. :)
