> 3 dayThis isnt a bad game, but if you started playing in the 90s like I did then there might be some things youre not happy with. For starters, the game has really been dumbed down. While I understand the game is supposed to be marketed to kids, the amount of hand holding in this game is ridiculous. HMs? Nope. Youll just be given something thatll allow you to fly or surf without having to search for something special or even work for it at all. The island challenges arent very challenging, either. Your rival doesnt even seem like a rival and another challenge was taken away when he heals your Pokemon before every battle with him. Another thing I was disappointed in was how the game seems to focus more on other characters than it does you. You kind of seem like a side character a lot. Theres just a lot that made the older games fun and challenging that dont seem to be part of the game anymore; theres even a pretty big difference just from X And Y. Its still worth playing, but I wouldnt pay full price for it. Go find a used copy or borrow it from a friend. Hopefully, the next installment will be better.

> 3 dayI have avidly played Pokemon since the original Pokemon Silver on the GameBoy Color. And let me tell you, Pokemon Sun has shown that the company has come a long, long way. Im not sure I like where its going. I spent hours completing the Pokedex on Pokemon Emerald, I cried during Pokemon Black, I rejoiced with Pokemon HeartGold, and celebrated the release of Pokemon X & Y. Pokemon Sun, however, isnt as good as the others. While Pokemon is arguably a childs game, this game really emphasizes it. 1.) No HMs, like they dont trust us how to use them. 2.) Rotom Dex is annoying with its constant blinking and blurbs - its reminiscent of Yokai Watch in style. 3.) Constant dialogue from start to finish - theres really no time to explore and have fun, because every 100 feet or so, youve got some story character that needs to tell you something. 4.) Names of new pokemon are so childishly simple; Mudsdale for a horse-like pokemon, Rockruff for a dog-like pokemon...like, honestly? Im all for puns, but those are just bad. It all just felt too young, but it is still excellent for what it is and for any newcomer to the Pokemon world. I wish to see, in the future, a game that focuses less on gimmicks and instead embraces what the original games were about: exploration, emotional bonds, and friendly competition. Itll attract all the old fans, like myself, and new fans alike.

> 3 dayIve been playing since Red and Blue and Sun/Moon truly stand out as one of the bests in the series. Music is themeatic and colorful, the story is unique and refreshing, and visually the game is a solid improvement from X and Y. A lot of the improvements like ditching HMs, labeling move effectiveness, and the ability to raise IVs are small but greatly remove the annoyances of previous titles. Bringing back clothing customization from X and Y is great and the large amount of options make the experince as a whole much more unique. Z moves feel a lot less broken (Mostly) than a lot of the Mega Evolutions, and add another great element to competitive battles. Game Freak knows its fans and Sun and Moon never feel like a deviation of what has made Pokemon consistently a fun experience for both veterans and newcomers alike.

> 3 dayStory does NOT = Cutscenes. And yet, the people over at Gamefreak felt it necessary that you can barely take four steps in this game without having to sit through and spam A repeatedly to get through cutscenes. Its the worst slog of any Pokémon game since it doesnt even let you really play--you keep getting interrupted. Also, the setting of the game wears out its welcome. From the Hawaiian names and words, to the endless island setting, youll encounter similar environments all the way through. Third, the tenor of the game is the more childish and immature and meandering of all mainline Pokémon games. Even though in prior Pokémon games you played a kid, those games werent SOLELY for children (much like Mario is for everyone, not just children). But this Pokémon game was the most immature patronizing one yet. From your stupid pokedex AI partner saying yeehaw partner or boy Ive got a bad feeling about this, to your mindless dumb friend sputtering the dumbest dialogue lines Ive seen yet in a okémon entry constantly repeating over and over and over again about having fun, this game just assaults the player with mindless dialogue and characters. Yes, Pokémon games dont exactly have deep meaningful themes or characters, but at least some of them like N or Lance or Blue or Professor Elm are somewhat interesting. Here theyre all just painfully cookie cutter and soulless. Having constant smiles and yelling about having fun isnt actually the way to bring about fun. Another mistake was some changes with gameplay. In response to many gamers who consider Pokémon rules (i.e. Which elements are super effective against which) gamefreak decided to flat out TELL you which moves were super effective and which werent. This was a horrible decision. Instead Gamefreak shouldve displayed which elements the Pokémon themselves were, and then the player could DEDUCE the type matchups over the coarse of the game. Most of us longtime fans were able to figure this out when we were 8; it ruins the experience to have had it changed now. Instead of having interesting music, a halfway decent story (through situations and characterization and dialogue) Pokémon Sun takes what Pokémon fans have--for some reason--been asking for (cutscenes) and shoves it down the players throat. True story in games isnt meant to be brought out by mandatory cut scenes with completely cloned smiles and laughs from everyone. Instead its shaped through atsmosphere, trials, and NPC choices. But this game instead subjects you to the mindless cookie-cutter smiles. Furthermore, the game asks you to input your own dialogue choices, which are all of course completely meaningless and bring about no differences, I have no idea why gamefreak even added the option. There are just a couple improvements in this entry that should be pointed out: 1) no wasteful HMs. While they did serve a gameplay purpose back in the day, its high time we get rid of their burden 2) the (same tiresome) Hawaiian areas do look great, as do the battle environments 3) most importantly, the map tells you where to go. While this wasnt needed in actually good concise older Pokémon games where it could be intuited on whats needed to be done next, latest Pokémon games dropped the ball in making that clear, so map waypoints are a big help. I sincerely regret paying for this game, and of all the Pokémon games I own (I have one from reach generation) this will be the only one I never replay. Yes the graphics are better, and yes there are more new Pokémon, but in almost all other respects, this is the worst mainline Pokémon game. In making everything childish and happy and mindless, Gamefreak has ripped out any semblance of identity or soul that was present in the more traditional gym trainer games. If youll excuse me, Ill be going back to better previous games.

Greater than one weekIts good.. lengthy story that took me several days at a few hours a day to complete. (I do take the time to soft reset for correct legends and such). Has some post game pokes to hunt down per usual. But meta game folks will not be happy about post game leveling. They have a feature in the game that allows you to boost IVs with the very rare bottle caps.. at level 100. Ok, great- evens the playing field a bit for people like me who put in the effort to actually raise and train battle-ready Pokemon (other people just cheat battle Pokemon into the game using hack/coding programs). Or not... Because the leveling is old school, where you get less experience as you level up. For example, if you KO a level 50 Pokemon, youll get less and less experience for that same Pokemon as you level. Theres no battle Maison. No restaurants. Lengthy Elite 4 battles with cutscenes... Theres literally no way to train them up to 100 without spending countless hours beating the elite 4 over and over, with only 3 or 4 Pokemon in your party (for higher exp share spread) and the one lucky egg you get. Irritating. To say the least. And Im certainly not soft resetting on tough-to-catch Tapu Koko one more freaking time after finally getting the right nature and hidden power ice. No way. So Ill need to fix his IVs a bit.. how do I get him to level 100? Painstaking HOURS of repetition. Ugh.

> 3 dayGreat game! Nintendo doesnt disappoint with this game. There is more of a storyline focus, and a lot of things have been added or changed. My favorite thing, which might be innocuous, is the PC. It goes directly do your boxes now where you can rearrange, swap pokemon etc. I also really like Poke Pleago. Makes getting pokébeans (equivalent of poképuffs) so much easier. I also think the caring for your pets after a battle is nice. It makes raising their affection so much easier. Petting gives 4 hearts now! Awesome. They made a lot of changes which I understand and appreciate. The Pokémon games have been going on for so long they have to refresh it somehow! Awesome game, definitely recommend.

> 3 dayIve been playing Pokémon since the original Red/Blue versions and although Im only 25 hours into Sun, its already one of my favorites. Game Freak did a great job of making it feel new while maintaining what I fell in love with back in the 90s. The only issue I have is that the tutorial is way too long. It Last about the first four hours and holds your hand through the entire time; we didnt need back it 96, and kids these days dont need it either. Still, great game. I have heard it runs pretty poorly on older 3ds and 2ds, so keep that in mind if you dont own a New Nintendo 3DS (as in the name of the device, not if it was previously owned or not)

> 3 dayIve been playing Pokemon games since Red/Blue and this is the first one I havent finished because I just dont find it very fun. Maybe Ive out grown the game, but I was playing Y just weeks before I got this game and I played all the way through and was hatching eggs for IVs for hours a day when I finished. This is definitely the least challenging Pokemon game while also having probably the deepest story. For me, there are too many cutscenes too often and they can be long as well. Seems like there are a lot of unnecessary dialogue scenes when you just want to play the game in the beginning. The trials are much easier than the gyms were in previous games, and never once did I feel threatened by any challenger or Totem Pokemon. Freeing up a move slot by not having to have HM moves in your party is nice, but it does feel like some strategy is taken out of the game. For once, I dont see myself breeding for IVs once I finish the game.
