Mostly metal and attaches to a 1 1/2 inch ball at both ends. A little heavy but I like it that way. This will not break. The handle on the side tightens very well and will keep your fish finder in any position you put it in. I like the long arm better. I can swing it right behind my steering wheel on my boat. You can purchase the base with a 1 1/2 inch ball also. Base did not come with any hardware. I bought a second one after installing the first. This is heavy duty.

I lost my double socket in the lake when I was taking my fish finder off my boat. Purchased another one because it’s a great way to adjust my electronics so I can see them from anywhere on the boat. It’s tightens up and holds agains the chop on the water and at speeds when traveling.

Works very well in downward position. We have mounted a CAS MED Monitor in our ambulance using this socket arm. Feels solid in place.
