I purchased this RK84 keyboard back in 2021 and thought it was a pretty good keyboard out of the box. However, I recently had some connectivity issues with it randomly disconnecting from my PC. I reached out to Royal Kludge for product support with low expectations, since they are not as well known as the major peripheral brands like Logitech and Razer. This is where I admit that I was wrong. Royal Kludge blew me away with their level of support and responded to my inquiry within hours. They walked me through testing the keyboard and updating the firmware before acknowledging that there is a defect and helped me set up a replacement. I received my replacement within days, and I was shocked at how much better this new RK84 felt compared to my original purchased in 2021. Its clear that they made some changes to the product and the current iteration is much improved. The keycaps are thicker, have a nicer rough texture and have a more satisfying bottoming out sound. The spacebar and modifier keys also have no stabilizer rattle at all! I thought I liked my RK84 when I bought it in 2021, but I love how much they improved it. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this board to anyone looking for a very usable 75% out of the box. Huge shout out to Royal Kludge for developing such a great product and having top notch customer support!

TL:DHTR - Defect: number 8 and 9 keys don’t work Probably my first and last review on Amazon as I don’t really care to write reviews. I am kind of hesitant on buying electronics online. The hassle of contacting sellers/vendors and the shipping of merchandise back and forth that’s already been paid for. I’m always afraid something expensive is going to get lost in transport. Anyway, I saw some reviewers mentioning that they were having issues with one or more of their keys not working. I took a gamble anyway since I’ve been wanting a decent keyboard for awhile to use with my PS5 to chat on the rare occasions that a game supports text chat for the shy people who refuse to use a headset. BTW, yes this is compatible with PS5 through Bluetooth, if you’re looking for one. Long story short, my number 8 and 9 keys don’t work. Other than that, the keyboard looks amazing. I’ve contacted the seller/vendor and hopeful they will contact me and resolve this. So wish me luck, else I’d have to go through Amazon for a replacement, might have been the simpler solution. UPDATE: RK reached out to me, got myself a replacement. Id have to say, Ive never been so impressed with customer service. They quickly responded and sent me a replacement in no time. I would definitely recommend this company/vendor to do business with.

Had initial problems with Mac functionality, but once I got that sorted out this keyboard has been a dream. Compact form factor, and the sturdy build have been highlights. It does seem to be an all plastic build, but it does not feel cheap. Sounds good, though I plan to add new keycaps and do a foam mod to dappen just a bit more. The RGB is good and has a lot of presets, though I do wish it were a bit brighter. If you are using this with Mac Mini, make sure to attach 2.4 connector directly to your Mac Mini, not through a dongle or anything like that. This may lead to problems for those running off of Mac laptops because the 2.4 is USB type A and I believe you may experience the same problems with the dongle connection (though I am not 100% sure) If you are looking for a keyboard to be your first mechanical, or a base for modding for the first time, I highly suggest this one.

Like others who have reviewed this keyboard - I scoured the internet reading reviews and researching multiple makes/models. However, I am a newbie in this space and had to start at the very beginning to understand the various configuration options there are with mechanical boards (i.e. key layout and #, key caps, switch types, etc.) and which ones I think would work best for me. So I can only rate this with experience level-1, and as someone who primarily uses it for typing vs gaming. A few things I like about this board: - Hot-swappable key caps and switches; allows me to change things up to find the option that best suits my preference/needs; although I will say the brown switches and stock key caps arent that bad, so while I eventually want to make changes, I dont have to do so quickly. - While the software would be great for setting key/lighting preferences - primarily for gaming - the plug-n-play experience is easy and does what I need. - The wireless capability was a must have on my list, but I learned it can be rare for nicer mechanical boards. This one works great and even has extra USB ports which come in handy. - Keyboard layout: I thought this was going to be the hardest/worst part of getting this keyboard. The tight layout seemed like I would be hitting a lot of wrong keys. Surprisingly, it hasnt been that hard of a transition to get the feel of this one. Not so great things: - Some of the keys do have a little wobble, but I know there are some DIY ways to dampen that. - The software must be downloaded and used to configure on a Windows machine. Normally not a problem, except I switched to a Mac as my personal computer a few months ago.

This keyboard is basically the greatest purchase I have ever made when it comes to electronics and thats quite something because I am notoriously very stingy with my money. I am only now getting into becoming a keyboard enthusiast/ hobbyist but from the tremendous amount of research that I did before actually buying this keyboard, it seems like this one is the smartest buy possible (especially the hot swappable version) I was pretty excited to take it apart and mod it but to my tremendous shock it feels soo good out of the box that I feel like it would really be a waste to take it apart so quickly. I had some contact with customer service to get a link to the software for this keyboard because it seemed like the link was broken at the time but they were very quick to respond and very helpful which is a huge plus. Anyway this is a 10/10 no matter how I look at it.

This a great keyboard for a great price. I keep the rgb backlight at the 3rd dimmest position, which is a good brightness that is quite visible in direct overhead indoor lighting which you can see in the picture. At this setting, the battery lasts incredibly long, like well over a week, to the point where I cant remember the last time I had to plug it in. I replaced the keys with doubleshot pbt pudding keycaps. You can find them on Amazon under YMDK ANSI ISO PBT Doubleshot Shine Through Pudding Keycaps Suitable for MX Mechanical Keyboard Corsair Razer DK SF KBD75 68 Keychron (White Pudding Full Set). I wanted to make sure I mentioned this because its a bit hard finding a set of keycaps that fit this, a few keys like the R Shift key are an unusual size that a lot of typical key sets dont have. They look and feel great. It took a little getting used to, but I love this 80% form factor. I have a laptop sleeve that this can fit into and I take it with me to the office when I can because I much prefer this keyboard to what my office provides. The only problem Ive really experienced is that every so often, Ill push a key like enter and it will keep pushing enter until I push another key like Esc. I dont think this is a problem with the physical key as it does not feel stuck, maybe its a bluetooth issue as I havent experienced it with a wired connection. Maybe I need to clean it more often, idk. Its a little annoying but not a big deal and it happens rarely. I know this would probably be a dealbreaker for gaming but you should use a wired connection if thats what youre doing. The brown switches are great for typing, Im a controller gamer so I cant say if its good for gaming. I also tried the red switches but they were a bit too sensitive for my taste. Overall, fantastic keyboard if youre looking to try out a mechanical keyboard.

    Greater than one week

Ive had this keyboard for almost a year and Im very happy with my choice. I thought it was risky considering the low price and less well-known company, but it has been solid. Even without using the software for customization, theres still a good number of colors and control over brightness, lighting pattern, etc. is good. Mine has red switches, which feel nice and are easy to type on. Aesthetically, Ive been really liking the simple white so much I havent even considered new keycaps. A great introduction to mechanical keyboards, so I thought, but now that Ive had it for almost a year, Im not sure that I really even need to upgrade (though Im sure some who know more or care more about keyboards would obviously disagree with me). I use it primarily for work, but also for gaming, and it performs well in both uses. One feature I forgot about is that not only are the keycaps removable, the switches are removable as well. Not only does this mean you can take it apart and customize the keyboard how you see fit, it really makes it easy to clean thoroughly. As for the customer service, I had an issue with one key backlight, and they were very responsive and help me remedy my issue much faster than anticipated. 5/5 - would buy again, and recommend to anyone looking for a good entry level mechanical keyboard

Ive been interested in mechanical keyboards for a while, but dont really have the money, time, or knowledge to get an intense build project or expensive prebuilt board. this, however, is a really good solution. Enthusiasts will probably be let down by the quality of the switches, but anyone new to keyboards as a hobby probably wont mind, plus its hotswappable if they become a problem. The size is also nice, not having a number pad but keeping several important function keys, though its hard to find full keycap sets for this layout. The backlights look nice, though they might be dim in some settings, the few default colours are fine, but the patterns feel a bit bloated with excess no one will probably use. There are a lot of cool extra features here that are hard to find on sub-$100 boards, like the extra usb ports, magnetic feet, three connection modes, and the top part of the case being removable for that floating keys look. I definitely dont regret going with this board over some of my other options, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good beginner mechanical keyboard :)

So this is replacing a Corsair K65 with cherryMX reds. Nothing wrong with that keyboard, but I wanted something different, thanks to Hipyotech (howdy hey). In the box came the keyboard, a user manual, a combo cap and switch puller, a USB A to USB C cable, and some extra swtiches. Not a lot of wasted room in the box, which is kinda nice. Wireless dongle is attached to the bottom of the keyboard, and was plug and play. Its got a bunch of RGB modes, colors, and settings. Its nice to be able to just play around with them at my whim. I know this isnt a huge feature on mechanical keyboards nowadays, but Im coming from a board that didnt have any... let me have this! I went with tactile browns, as that was the first mechanical keyboard that I had. I think I prefer that style of switch, and these arent aggressively tactile. The keyboard is surprisingly quiet, especially compared to the Corsair that I had. There was a bit of a springy ping when you hit the space bar a bit too hard. The fix was popping 6 screws out of the keyboard and painters taping the bottom of the PCB. I did just a single layer, and it took care of the majority of the ping. I can still get it to ping, but I have to beat on the bar now. I also tossed some dense spacing foam I had from old lithium motorcycle batteries in the upper portion of the case to help mellow some of the sound out... sadly it was too thick to apply to the lower portion of the keyboard... sad. Less sad is the amount of space it takes up on the desk. Its pretty compact, so youre able to get the majority of a normal keyboards function out of it in a smaller footprint than the K65. Nice! But also, not nice... more on that below. I havent tested any sort of latency, bluetooth performance, or done much gaming with it, as life has been keeping me from doing a lot of gaming. That said, the typing experience has been very much a joy, and Im getting used to a slightly higher than what Im used to activation on the keys. Thats causing me to jumble letters up as Im typing. Just gotta get good. Speaking of getting good, its not all sunshine and rainbows. Because of the form factor, the print screen, pause, delete, home, end, page up and down, and arrows are all scrunched in together. Im not used to them being so close together, nor am I used to their non standard positions. This I think is just going to be a training issue with using the board... I wont lie though, theres a bit of frustration in having to look for a key that Ive used for decades, and it not being where I was expecting. Id love if the page up/down and home/end key positions were swapped. That would help me with the learning curve I think. Having the arrow keys surrounded by others is, likewise, very strange to me, as Im unfamiliar and I cant hit them by simple touch anymore. Again, I think its a training issue, but its something to be aware of. I think the long and short of it is this is a keyboard thats nice to use if you need to free up some space on your desk. Its a pretty solid typing experience, and its got a little space for modifying. On the downside, its gonna take a little time getting used to key placement if youre used to blazing though spreadsheets and things like that. Its an affordable mechanical keyboard that lets you see where mechanical keyboards can go, especially if youre coming from a membrane style, or an older, much more difficult to modify keyboard.

This thing arrived and I was pleasantly surprised with all that was included with this keyboard! It came with a usb c cable, 4 extra switches(the same that were installed in the board), a really good key cap puller and switch puller, and some magnetic feet to adjust the height. I played a few rounds of MW2 with this keyboard out of the box using the 2.4ghz Dongle. I was surprised with the responsiveness. Then I see that there is also blue tooth. I tried that out on my iPad and it was almost as good as the RF connection. I was very surprised. The next thing that was a big plus for me was that there is full mac support for this keyboard. That isnt common with gaming boards that are in this price range. The other pleasant surprise is the usb passthrough on the board. there are not a lot of wired boards with that functionality. The only con I ran into was that there was no way to see the battery level on board, and when you are connected to rf you wont be able to see the battery percentage. There is a good trade off though as the keyboard will allow you to see that battery level when you are connected with blue tooth There really is no way that I would be able to give this board any lower than 5 stars!
