(1/14/2022 Update): Im calling it quits on this board and going to a Keychron Q1. Off the bat, I want to make it clear that its entirely possible I just got dealt a really unlucky hand with the board that was delivered to me. So many others have positive experiences, and the RK Rep Cassie I spoke to and her team reach out to me directly to try and troubleshoot issues with my board. Even after I had already gotten a refund. They put a lot of effort in and that should be acknowledged. So as previously stated, initially I had issues with the board taking over a minute+ to connect to my computer in wired mode every time I booted my computer. Now after a number of back and forth emails and firmware sent via a google drive, it still checks for a wireless connect first but then switches to wired after about 2-3 seconds. Much better. Then it would search for a wireless connection after shut down. (A letter will be flashing). Not great but Im out of the room by then so didnt bother me too much. Still. This was after a LOT of back and forth emails. (Super pleasant ones mind you.) But yeah, I didnt get a keyboard to want to deal with its connection/software. When removing the keycaps, occasionally a switch will get pulled up with it. Thats fine. However after it happened with my 1 key, I found that the node itself had come close in one corner. So I was no longer getting a signal from my 1 key since it was no longer inserted. I opened the case, figured the solder had come loose and when I went to solder it (thats flux in the picture) noticed the entire copper contact place had actually come loose all together. I reattached it the best I knew how. Reassembled the board, only to find it still no longer worked. So yeah, Its been months and theres just way too much thats come up with a board that I no longer even intend to use so Im calling it quits. While I still have faith in Royal Kludge as a company. Partially because of Cassie and how much attention and effort she put in, I dont think Ill be revisiting their boards for the time. (However I do really dig the build. And if I did get another RK, Id probably steer away from anything wireless). I emailed them my ending thoughts and issues so hopefully it can be used to better improve their boards down the line since Id REALLY love to see them succeed and iron these out. I dont want dirt on their name if my board was just an unfortunately weak made one out of the hundreds of titans. Im only providing this update and leaving a neutral 3 stars so as a buyer, you could look out and get ahead of these issues if you experience them as well. Ideally, if the first amazon rep I spoke to hadnt been a complete poop show, I mightve just been open to replacing the board with anther RK84. But Im pretty dang happy with my Q1. So Id rather not have another board here going to waste. I wish RK the best! Hope Cassie and the others have a happy new year. And finally put a close to this chapter. (I got the RK84 with red switches. Running on a Desktop PC. Everything from the board to the USB cable is stock and in box. Unmoded. And was never opened up before the loose stem.) ----------The Original Review------------- So my board is having an issue where theres a long delay upon start up before my keyboard will connect with my PC and allow me to type. And upon shut down, the P key will flash continuously. (Presumably trying to pair) Im currently working with the Royal Kludge reps to resolve this. ---In the mean time, here are some issues Ive had and things Ive learned-- 1. So AceGadgets is a authorized distributor for Royal Kludge. So that answers whether or not I got a real board I presume. Peace of mind there for me. However 2. Not really a fan of Aces return policy. If I were to do it again, Id honestly probably purchase from Royal Kludges site directly. At least on their site, they appear to have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Ended up having to speak to 2 different amazon reps to process a refund for the bugged board I received. The first one is where all of my frustrations lie. Basically the rep tried to tell and force me to just eat the cost of the board that came bugged. That said, Royal Kludge reached out to me directly and have been putting in effort in trying to troubleshoot and resolve the issues of the connection delay and forced wireless searching(?) So its nice knowing the company actually cares.

Like others who have reviewed this keyboard - I scoured the internet reading reviews and researching multiple makes/models. However, I am a newbie in this space and had to start at the very beginning to understand the various configuration options there are with mechanical boards (i.e. key layout and #, key caps, switch types, etc.) and which ones I think would work best for me. So I can only rate this with experience level-1, and as someone who primarily uses it for typing vs gaming. A few things I like about this board: - Hot-swappable key caps and switches; allows me to change things up to find the option that best suits my preference/needs; although I will say the brown switches and stock key caps arent that bad, so while I eventually want to make changes, I dont have to do so quickly. - While the software would be great for setting key/lighting preferences - primarily for gaming - the plug-n-play experience is easy and does what I need. - The wireless capability was a must have on my list, but I learned it can be rare for nicer mechanical boards. This one works great and even has extra USB ports which come in handy. - Keyboard layout: I thought this was going to be the hardest/worst part of getting this keyboard. The tight layout seemed like I would be hitting a lot of wrong keys. Surprisingly, it hasnt been that hard of a transition to get the feel of this one. Not so great things: - Some of the keys do have a little wobble, but I know there are some DIY ways to dampen that. - The software must be downloaded and used to configure on a Windows machine. Normally not a problem, except I switched to a Mac as my personal computer a few months ago.

Contrary to other Royal Kludge keyboards, this one is actually pretty nice. Hot swap, little amounts of ping, and satisfying to type on. These are a very light red switch and I found myself accidentally hitting the keys, especially the spacebar, when typing or gaming. Just not my kind of keyboard, but if you know you like a light linear then this is a great budget option.

This keyboard is basically the greatest purchase I have ever made when it comes to electronics and thats quite something because I am notoriously very stingy with my money. I am only now getting into becoming a keyboard enthusiast/ hobbyist but from the tremendous amount of research that I did before actually buying this keyboard, it seems like this one is the smartest buy possible (especially the hot swappable version) I was pretty excited to take it apart and mod it but to my tremendous shock it feels soo good out of the box that I feel like it would really be a waste to take it apart so quickly. I had some contact with customer service to get a link to the software for this keyboard because it seemed like the link was broken at the time but they were very quick to respond and very helpful which is a huge plus. Anyway this is a 10/10 no matter how I look at it.

It is a decent keyboard with respect to hardware. The keyboard I got was the newer 2021 manufactured one, and it does not have any issue with the 2.4ghz connection. It works flawlessly for approximately 5 feet of range, after which it starts missing many of the keypresses. One thing to note is that the latency benefits are not that much for this 2.4 ghz connection compared to Bluetooth 5.0. We should not expect Logitech lightspeed level of performance. It is just a good option when the device you are connecting to does not have Bluetooth capabilities. The switches used in this keyboard are actually very acceptable. Not the smoothest. Lubing the switches should surely help. The stabilizers are also decent. The keycaps are very good abs keycaps for the price. Overall the hardware is on par to, say Keychron k2 v2. Out of the box, these keyboards are a huge upgrade from cheap membrane or mechanical keyboards. Although, these keyboards wont match in out of the box typing quality to keyboards like Yunzii Akko. Issues arise when dealing with the firmware and the software. The device has a really unintuitive battery level indicator. The official instruction says: Spacebar will flash 3 times when battery is not full, 5 times when it is fully charged. For me, even after charging for 10 hours, the space bar never flashed 5 times. I reconnected the keyboard as well to reset the keyboard, but that did not help. Further, there is no way to know even an approximate estimate of charge level. So, there was no way to confirm if the firmware was failing to show full battery, or if the battery actually did not charge. Another major issue is that the backlight turns of in 15-20 seconds when in wireless mode, irrespective of the sleep time set in the software. In wired mode, the backlight stays on for the correct amount of time. Overall, all these issues add up and make it difficult for me to recommend these to anyone who cannot ignore such irritations.

Love the feel of the keys, love the size of the keyboard. No connectivity issues. Very comfortable. Only thing you could complain about is that the battery life leaves something to be desired.

I wanted a keyboard for my laptop because the palm area would get hot. Lots of great features and battery life for the money. I would like to get better feeling keycaps for this at some point these white one are just too plain for me lol.

the thing kinda misfunctions sometimes, but overall works pretty well. Good quality for the price and its super pretty. The lights are bright and are adjustable, pretty sure theyre customizable too. I also like how easy it is to take apart to lube the switches or to change the keycaps. pretty good money for its quality and price
