We have a very curious 19 month old, who has discovered the joy of rummaging through everything he can get his little hands on. The need arose to lock some of the kitchen cabinets and drawers, and after much time doing research, I purchased 2 4-packs of these based upon the reviews of others. The distinguishing features of these are: easy to disable auto locking feature, quality of construction, and strength of lock when locked (FYI: NONE of the adhesive mounted locks work well at all). Each set of 4 comes with 4 mounting templates, screws, and 1 unlocking magnet key. In addition to the 4 screws used to mount the lock to the drawer/cabinet and the 2 to mount the strikeplate to the frame, it is necessary to drill a 9/16 hole under the lock body to accept the unlock pin, which protrudes into the cabinet material and is activated with the key. This hole must be deep enough to have its floor about 1/8 from the outside face of the cabinet, in order for the magnet to successfully penetrate the depth of the material. I tell you this because if, at some point in the future you no longer need these and remove them, the locking pin hole will need to be backfilled with wood putty, as it is large and deep. That said, these do work very well. The first lock took about 45 minutes to install, and subsequent ones about 20 minutes. The included templates work quite well, although some manual adjustments will be necessary for drawers with false faceplates, etc.

Doing the first installation takes a little time as there are specific steps and orders, but once you do it once it is very easy to do on the second, third, etc. They include a little sticker/paper thing that is used to guide where to install and drill holes. It is very useful and makes it pretty fool proof. I have actually bought 16 of these locks!

The only problem weve had with these involved a guest blasting one of our cupboards with champagne, which leaked into the lock and gummed it up. Fortunately we ordered many keys, because our toddlers love to snatch and hide them. Overall, much better than the older plastic tab locks my parents used, and easy to install for someone who is moderately handy. The hardest to install was on the bottom drawer, where the drill barely fit. Theres little to no play, and its nice to be able to unlock them while Im cooking.

These things are great! Installed very easily (great template to drill holes for the screws) and very securely our cabinets from the kids. I have really yanked on them while locked to test them and they hold great with no play. The best Ive found yet. I bought 4 as a trial and will be buying more.

Who knew a child-proof latch could be so much fun? They were easy to install and a pleasure to use because theyre so clever. Note that its no longer necessary to blind drill a nearly 3/8 diameter hole; just two small screw holes need to be drilled into the cabinet face. The provided templates make installation much easier than it otherwise would be - very clever. I only wished that this product could be made to work on the drawers in my house.

I got tired of coming home to a kitchen with trash scattered all over the floor so was looking for a way to make the cabinets below the sink secure without having to stick a chair in front of the sink to block my dogs access. The cabinets dont have doorknobs, so I couldnt use the cheap twist-tie versions. I like that my sink is metal because I can stick the key to it without worrying about losing it. I also like being able to disable it just by flicking the grey tab on the side. When I am home my dog will not go dumpster diving so on the weekends I keep it unlocked so I dont have to wrestle with the key to throw trash away. This makes it good for people having multiple children- keep it locked when there is a toddler, unlock it when toddler gets older without having to uninstall, then relock it when next toddler comes along. Fortunately my dad came up that weekend because if it was a pain in the *** for him to install them I bet I would have given up. He is very handy but it still took him over an hour to install. The directions were not clear enough, so I found a youtube video which demonstrated how to install them. My dad said it was very helpful.

This could be a great product, BUT the support is terrible. We started installing the product over the weekend. The package includes an innovative template that sticks to the cabinet door so you can drill the holes correctly. The adhesive is basically double stick tape and is covered by a waxy paper. Unfortunately, removing the paper also removed the adhesive. We contacted support to get some additional templates to replace the defective ones and were told, Unfortunately, these locking systems do not have parts available to send. So, if there is something missing from the package, or defective... you would have to return the entire product for the very inexpensive templates. Sorry thats not really an acceptable answer these days. So, if you go ahead and buy the product, inspect it quickly. If ANYTHING even looks wrong, return it immediately. Dont wait, and dont expect any help from support.

We purchased these to keep our oldest cat who is too smart for his own good, and his younger brother who follows the older one, from going into the cabinet with their food and treats. The sound of the cabinet door opening and closing would keep us up all night. This works like a charm and the look of disgust and anger in his face when he cant get it open is priceless. Installation is somewhat involved - you have to drill holes - but follow the instructions exactly and you will be fine.

These locks work well. I like that little one cant get her fingers pinched. The flexibility over other brands to install the lock at the top or side of the cabinet door is nice. Installation was a challenge. On our cabinet, the installation template didnt work. I ended up drilling 3 sets of holes on the first door. I figured out that I shouldnt use the template to determine the placement of holes on the door.

We have both TotLoks and the Safety 1st child locks. The TotLoks look like a bit of a contraption and the magnets fall apart if dropped. The locks themselves though are very strong, and theyre much smaller than the Safety 1st locks. They will fit in more places. The Safety-1st locks have much nicer magnets and overall are easier to install/use and work better in normal operation--- but if an adult yanks on a locked door with any force without care, assuming it should open, the Safety 1st lock internally shatters and ceases to work. The TotLoks dont. Minus one star for breaking easily, minus one more for being bulky enough that we had to cut notches in some cabinets/drawers so they would fit. These could be the perfect child lock if both were fixed.
