> 24 hourMy PC has an old Asus AMD M5A99FX MB (but no onboard M.2 slots). So I bought a “AMPCOM M.2 NVME SSD to PCIe 4.0 Adapter Card” to allow me to put this NVMe in an available PCIe 2.0 x4 slot on the MB. Worked well as any disk should, in Win 11, but was not bootable (not the problem of the SSD or the adapter card) this was an issue with the old BIOS, which did not support booting a NVMe type of drive. The fix is getting an upgraded BIOS (not available on the MB manufacture BIOS updates site). Solution - I bought a “ BIOS patched for NVMe booting” and problem is solved. Even on my PCIe 2.0 backplane I got a significant bump in performance, see attached pictures, with all related info.

> 24 hourLove this for my PS5. Installation was a breeze and within about five minutes I was up and running with 2TB more storage in my PS5. Cant remember the exact figure my machine gave me when it tested the drive after formatting, but it was over 6000 MB/s, just cant remember anything after the 6 :) Wish Id snapped a pic of the speed.

> 24 hourThe impossibly tiny screw needed to mount this does not come with the product. Unless you have extra on hand tough luck.

> 24 hourI recently left a review for another nvme drive, the sk hynix p41. I said in it that that drive drained my battery in my new laptop alittle too fast for my liking. I took that drive out and switched it to this samsung 980 pro. I had mentioned in the p41 review that i thought the p41 was faster than this one. When i tranaferred a 16 gb file when i hooked this one up it transferred it at about 1.5 gb/s while the p41 did it at 2.0 gb/s. Thats nothing to shake a finger at, for either drive especially since both are faster than the 900mb/s my original wd drive moved at. That being said a recent firmware seemed to help this samsung drive because after it i transferred the same file and found it moving at about 1.9gb/s so now this one is almost there although it did seem alittle less stable moving up and down between 2.0 and 1.6 a few times before settling at about 1.9 while the p41 went at 2.0 and didnt look back. That being said, this deive moves that fast, whether its 1.9gb/s or 1.5 gb/s, and still sips slowly from the battery. While the p41 gave me 4 hrs at idle(2 hours less than the stock drive), this one got me up to about 6.5 to 7 hrs at idle and about 4 hours of use time. Believe me i know the battery life is still terrible so id rather not burn through it any faster than i already do. On top of that this drive also stays cooler than the p41. While the p41 sat at 41 to 46 degrees c at idle, this one sits at 31 to 35 degrees c.

> 24 hourLuckily mine came with the latest firmware, so I didnt have to update it. I slapped it in my PS5, checked the speed, and got on with gaming. Even if you do have to update, the process isnt that hard. There are plenty of YouTube videos that will tell you what to do. But it seems like they are all shipping with the latest firmware now, so thats good. Buy one, or five!
