Set this up 6 months ago, today manually updated after large download, found it had not been backing up like I thought. It asked for password, put in my usual and it said it was wrong-looked at my hint which says use regular password - nope didnt work. I then wasted a half hour looking for a way to reset my password-nothing. I started a chat and asked simply how to reset password-50 minutes later after multiple back and forth they finally told me THEY DONT DO THAT! You have to completely wipe all the data from the drive and start all over again-which took over an hour. On top of that it never did prompt me to choose a new password so I dont know if next time I will have to do this all over again.

The write speed is decent and the device doesnt seem to overheat. The small size makes the device portable - the unique cable requirement makes portability a chore.

Its a fine hard drive for the price, but I bought this because I thought it used a USB-C connection. instead, its a proprietary connection leading to a USB-A...with an A to C adapter. That means one more thing to remember every time I want to connect this hard drive to a modern computer.

I purchased the drive in March 2021. Everything seemed okay at first except I was getting frequent messages to scan the drive or to reconnect the drive. Around the July 21th I discovered a message stating Last backup 3/28/2021. I searched the documentation trying to find out what was going on. First of all , this is not a plug-and-play drive. There are several programs that you have to navigate, Sea Tools, Toolkit, DiscWizard, and others. The quick-start guide consists of 3 small diagrams with no text. The bulk of the quick start dealt with the Mac computers and the various foreign languages. Deep down in the other documentation, I discovered that incremental backup was not supported in Windows 10 computers. I spoke with tech support for more that an hour while he searched to find out why the drive status showed that it was shown as locked in Explorer. Also, the Toolkit program could not test the drive. At that point, I had had enough. Im going to toss the drive in the recycle bin. In the past, I have used Toshiba, WD, HP, and Seagate (Barracuda) drives. I used another drive software and it generated a page full of errors. I am not a novice. I have been a systems programmer, a certified network solutions engineer, and a manager of tech support.

Good hard drive, it has nice security with the password protection.

I purchased this drive to primarily store my thousands of photographs. It was used for less than a year when the drive failed (clicking sound heard). I contacted the technical support at Seagate via amazon as the drive was less than a year old and came with a 1 year warranty (including data recovery). I was told as it was under warranty they would replace the drive and recover the data, I just needed to ship it to them. A couple weeks after the drive was received at the data recovery lab, I got an email that the data was not recoverable and the drive would be trashed. I tried to follow up with the Seagate with no response. My data was lost. A few days later I received a refurbished replacement drive. Not a new one. I will never be purchasing a product from Seagate again!

I dont know why I keep buying Seagate backup external hard disks. Every one Ive bought over the years has been troublesome on my Windows PCs. The hard disks themselves have been flawless but the automatic backup software has routinely failed to automatically back up my data. This one sometimes gives me an error that the volume cannot be found and that it needs to be formatted but then the next time I turn the PC on, it works fine. Every few minutes I get a pop-up message on the screen, sometimes saying the backup has failed, sometimes saying the backup was successful. On the other hand, this one has the ability to add a password to protect the contents of the hard disk, which is a good security feature.

Got it as a compact drive to transfer data between two computers. Love the size and it works great so far.

Im happy with its performance. My measurements: R 133MB/s, W 132MB/s. It works well with my MacBook Pro (I had to reformat it, so I can use it as Time Machine backup). And I like the design, too.
