I loved this thing since I got it at the tail end of 2019. I save all my important docs, pictures, emulators, etc on this drive. I do not use it for automated backup and I use a Miscrosoft Surface Book 2. My issue with this hard drive is sometimes it takes a while for it to load after putting in my password. The high probability of constantly troubleshooting and losing all of my precious data freaks me out. I can deal with unplugging and re-plugging once or twice to get it to work. Tonight I tried to get it to load for 3 hours, doing combinations of laptop restarts, unplugging and re-plugging, switching power cords, trying to use Toolkit to deactivate the password feature (thats where it always seems to freeze and stop responding). It seems like it doesnt stay powered on long enough through the loading process and just stops responding. I have not tried calling customer support yet as its almost 23:00 EST as of this writing, but I may try tomorrow. If it is something that is easily fixed, I would love to give it 5 stars. UPDATE 2/22/21: I was finally able to disable password encryption and no issues! 4 stars only because Im not sure if it will act up again when I re-enable it.

Good news: Excellent support from Seagate and Amazon. Bad News: First one did not work, Seagate support was amazing and determined a bad device, Amazon quickly delivered a new one the next day. Second one worked but was also giving errors and made my husbands computer not work after a reboot. There is something wrong with the current batch of this device April 2023. We have the data on the harddrive but my husband does not want to connect it to his computer and neither one of us at this point want to use it to reformat and return!!!! Wasted money.

I have a Mac. I got it in 2011. Shes plugging away working along just fine. Ive never had a problem with it. But its 9 years old. I had a Dell and then a Sony PC, and those lasted about five years. Maybe I could have dragged out a few more years. But 9 years. Thats a long time. I have so many pictures and videos of my loved ones. If I lost them, then Id feel bad. So I did some research looking in to ways to back up everything. Somehow I settled on this. I had hooked it up to my Mac, and it prompted Time Machine to launch. It guided me to set up the device. Now it just automatically backs up periodically. As its connected, an icon appears on my computer screen Backup Plus. I can click on it and view the files. Each backup is dated. Each backup has all my files, my tax data, my checkbook, my financial data, the file with all my passwords, all my pictures, all my videos and all my music. Its there. I can check it. I can click on it. So I know its backing up periodically, and if something happens to my old computer, then Ill still have all the data. And it wasnt even that expensive.

The hard drive itself works great, the only issue is that the included USB C adapter does not work.

My husband set it up for me, I went to plug it into my computer to back up more photos and it was Locked and I don’t know the password… my husband has a different external hard drive and I now use that one because I don’t have to worry about it locking on me.

I purchased the drive in March 2021. Everything seemed okay at first except I was getting frequent messages to scan the drive or to reconnect the drive. Around the July 21th I discovered a message stating Last backup 3/28/2021. I searched the documentation trying to find out what was going on. First of all , this is not a plug-and-play drive. There are several programs that you have to navigate, Sea Tools, Toolkit, DiscWizard, and others. The quick-start guide consists of 3 small diagrams with no text. The bulk of the quick start dealt with the Mac computers and the various foreign languages. Deep down in the other documentation, I discovered that incremental backup was not supported in Windows 10 computers. I spoke with tech support for more that an hour while he searched to find out why the drive status showed that it was shown as locked in Explorer. Also, the Toolkit program could not test the drive. At that point, I had had enough. Im going to toss the drive in the recycle bin. In the past, I have used Toshiba, WD, HP, and Seagate (Barracuda) drives. I used another drive software and it generated a page full of errors. I am not a novice. I have been a systems programmer, a certified network solutions engineer, and a manager of tech support.
