I bought these with high expectations and did love the sound, but the headband did give me a bit of a headache so ended up returning

I had the XM3 and thought now would finally be a good time to upgrade. And the XM5s were only slightly better. I EQ my headphones, so after that, they both sounded good to me, so not a significant enough difference there. XM5s were marginally more comfortable, but not enough to make a difference to me either. The couple things that were much better was its ability to auto pause when removing the headphones connect to 2 devices at once (XM3 doesnt have that), the ambient sound mode was so much better, and the headphones overall responsiveness to touch/button controls was much faster. As for noise cancelling, Im convinced that there is variation in noise cancellation strength between each individual pair of WH-1000XM5 headphones. Ive watched videos of sound engineers doing noise-cancelling samples and graphically showing the XM5s beating out other headphones, including the XM3. So I know that objectively, the XM5s should have better noise cancelling than most competitors, especially the old XM3s. But Ive compared them both on a plane, in a room filled with talking people, and outside when a bunch of cicadas were droning. The 2 are either on par or the XM3s slightly edge out the XM5s. Again, its soooo close, but I expected new model to be leaps beyond the model 2 generations ago. But because I know the XM5s have to be better, the only conclusion I can draw is that there is random variation in ANC strength between individual headphones. Im giving 3 stars for now and will be returning my pair, but I like the headphones enough to give them another chance, maybe when they go on sale or something. Ill update my review then.

I have so many sony products. So, when I needs a good headset, I went for sony. I got this expensitve headset through Amazon with promotioned price. But the headset can not do paring with my iphone. I made serveral phone calls with Sony tech support trying to resolve the issue. I even tried to get a new iphone to test it when I was told I did not have curent version iphone software to pair with this headset. But, none of these suggestions worked, so I ended up going to near-by Best Buy to have them giving me physical check with this new new headset and got resonese was this heasset was factory defective that I should contact with Sony for a repacement since I did not even have a chance to try it out. It took me over 2 weeks to receive a new replaced headset. Then again, this one gets even worse becuase it can not be powered. After talking to Sony tech support, they allowed me to do anyother return for 2nd replacement. After one and half month troubleshooting that I can not even hear a sound or song from this model of Sony headset, I was fed up but either the seller or Amazon could help me out and I was told that I have to deal with Sony from now on because purchase return period was expired. I dont know whatelse I can do at this point. I DON NOT RECOMMEND THIS HEADSET TO ANYONE even this model has so many excellent reviews unless you are very lucky--I had two new product and none of them was working. Plus, return your electronic product to Amazon right away when you find a prolbem with it. Dont try to figure out to fix the probem yourself.

I’ve had Beats, Bose, Apple and now the Sony. I gotta say these are the best noice cancelling overhead headphones. They are the most comfortable headphones I’ve had and the sound quality is top notch.

Great headphones. I like them a lot and think they are great. A little overpriced yet worth it if you listen to music a lot. I gave it a 4 because it has a little too much bass. Better than Bose headphones though.

I love these headphones so much. I wanted a pair of headphones for my game room but couldn’t find anything pink, noise cancelling and high quality worth the price. I found these and am very pleasantly surprised by them. They are so lightweight and have a great amount of noise cancelling. Love them!

Great headphones overall they were very light but im my honest opinion I like better the AirPods Max because they sound more loud and the spacial audio and I feel the the max are more crisp in sound than the xm5. very sand that I have to return it because I really was looking forward to keep it

Bought these for my partner, who adores them for their light weight, comfortable fit, good touch controls, good quality voice pickup for video calls, and excellent noise-cancelling ability. I like them because we can talk - they just palm the right earcup to activate pass-through mode. Or, if we need a longer chat, they can pull off the headphones which automatically pauses the music. This has drastically reduced the number of annoyed looks I get. Win-win! Out of the box, the sound quality on these cans is decent but the headphones are more bass-heavy. The low end sounds a little “muddy”. There is an EQ adjustment in the accompanying Sony app, but after downloading it, quickly uninstalled it because the software demanded a lot of personal information. Wed rather rather live with the just-tolerable sound profile than give up all that information to Sony. One star off, Sony, for being just a bit too greedy and not respecting privacy; the app should come with no strings attached, especially given the cost of these headphones.

I wanted SO SO badly to like these. They sound AMAZING (Sonys rich and full sound is unmatched). They are SUPER lightweight The noise cancelling is BETTER than the Apple Airpods max headphones Very nice travel case The only reason I returned them is even on their smallest adjustable setting they were too big for my normal sized head. They hung just a little too low on my ears. ALSO the top padding was oddly not comfortable, created a pressure point on the top of my head- maybe because the pressure of the tension holding them to my ears was not very strong, so the brunt of the weight was distributed to the top of the head band.

I like them a lot. The only one problem that they have - poor quality of zip on the case. Could be damaged easily just after couple of times.
