> 24 hourFor me the cost to replace and the ease of replacement of an old wooden mailbox, was easier to do with this Step 2 mailbox. I opened the Step 2 box in the house and put the the two pieces together on a table. It took sliding the head of the mailbox onto the base. The instructions say this process takes two people, but I had no trouble getting the two pieces to fit with ease and without assistance. The next process entailed securing the two pieces together with screws on either side of the head of the mailbox. I pre-drilled holes, then inserted the screws with my cordless drill with ease. It would have went faster had I had someone (or something) there to help support mailbox in a standing position, but I got it done in about 15 minutes. The next day I carried the entire mailbox outside to the post. It was not heavy. I slipped the base over the wooden post with ease, and slipped a bungee cord around the base to hold the two pieces together and upright, while I worked on pre-drilling holes for the two bolts that go in the front of the mailbox. Getting the bolts in goes easier with the right tools. I had a cordless drill and drill bits to pre-drill the bolt holes, but did not have a cordless drill socket adapter, so I had to use a manual socket wrench which meant twisting those 2 long bolts in to the wooden post while on my knees, and using a lot of muscle, effort, and time. Once done, it stood upright and strong, and most assuredly will withstand the weather. Im glad I got it.

> 24 hourI am very happy with the price and quality of this mailbox. It was easily to install on an existing 4x4 post that was left from the last mailbox. My only criticism would be that the interior mail area is relatively small compared to the large size of this mailbox.

> 24 hourWe had a similar mailbox installed on a post in the ground with concrete. In one of our latest snow storms the snow plow hit the mailbox and snapped it off just above the post. We still had frozen ground but with this system, we just unbolted the old broken box, slide on the new box, tighten the bolts and we were done. If we wanted to replace a standard mailbox we would have had to wait until the ground thawed. We really like the new walnut color as it is so different from all the others out there.

> 24 hourOur old mailbox was looking rough. It had been smashed by some palm branches falling on it and was all peeled paint and rust. It was getting to the point that I was thinking they would stop delivering our mail. ;-) After searching a bit I picked up this bad boy. This thing is large and well built with plenty of room for both mail and a newspaper. Does anyone besides me still get a newspaper? Putting this together was a bit of work and requires two people and a drill. I was able to put this together with the assistance of my seven-year-old to hold it in place while I attached it. If you already have a post installed you may have to cut it to fit this mailbox. Whats holding me back from giving this five stars? The stupid bolts they provide for attaching the box to the pole are next to useless. There is no way you are going to easily fit a wrench or socket in the hole provided. I ended up just using some large wood screws and screwing this directly to the pole. So if you pick this up you may want to locate or purchase some big wood screws.

> 24 hourI put up a Mailmaster plus back in October/November. Our old mailbox had been bat-thumped so many times the door wouldnt stay shut. That old mailbox gave great service, but it just could not withstand the many visits by the county boys. You know who Im talking about, the juveniles/post-juveniles who have nothing to do late at night in the middle of nowhere (TM) but drive daddys truck around burning daddys fuel so they can destroy the mailboxes of old people who cant fight back. The brave warriors of the starlit county road who do not have to rise at the cocks call because they dont have to go to work (like the old people). Well, my mailbox was found by the County Shurf three miles from my driveway, still intact. All they could do was tear off the little plastic flag and tear the box off the post. In spite of the irritation, it was a little humorous seeing all the dirt plowed up around the post. That mailbox put up a fight, I can tell you that! I reckon they put a chain through it and used their truck to rip it from the post. I suspect the flag was torn off in frustration as I found it a few yards down the road, lying in a forlorn tire track. After donning gloves, I picked it up and put it in a plastic bag. For fingerprints, yanno. (Thanks, CSI !) The deputies took the parts of the dismembered box (bagged flag and all) along with the forlorn tire track casts and said wed hear something when they caught up with em. Were not holding our breath. But! in this great new century, all I had to do was turn on the computer, run out to Amazon and order another one which arrived in a few days. Its a great box and I suspect its very beauty attracted the roving eyes of those young men (how do I know they were male? Oh, please!) Its lovely curves, its voluptuous come-hither roundness atop a graceful post no doubt was irresistible to them. Not to mention doors on both ends which allow you to place mail in the box and retrieve mail without having to stand in the actual county road to potentially be run over by a local aged county resident. So stands my new mailbox by the side of the road and is a friend to man. At least, folks think it is pretty. All the mailboxes along our road are new and shiny now, but none as lovely and serviceable as our faithful Mailmaster Plus. Thanks Amazon! A great product, a great service and a terrific mailbox.
