This is a massive step up from my TI-84. I had been using them my whole life and my school recommended it. Im going off the college and decided to splurge on a nice, new calculator and this one was great. CAS system saves me from my awful algebra mistakes and I can easily verify my calculus. The ability to also write simply Python code is lovely as well. Highly recommend if youre in the market for your next calculator, but there is a learning curve fyi.

This is pretty expensive technology for you what you get in your hand. What you get in support from TI and the educational market they now own probably justifies the price point. If you take the time to learn what the Nspire can do, you will be math literate for a long time.

I bought this for my Middle School son who does enriched math. I was going to get a TI 84 CE color calculator and this was the same price so I figured this was the best deal and he could use through high school. The teacher borrowed the calculator to learn how it worked so she could help students and basically gave it back and said she couldnt figure it out. My son still used it though and figured things out on his own but I thought that was strange. Unfortunately it got stolen in class. So keep an eye on this thing and make sure you write down the serial number. I think you can only find it in the menu system. I took pictures of the calculator when we first purchased and looking back there were no markings. If your looking to purchase this over a TI 84 Plus CE, I would have to pick the TI 84 Plus CE even though it may have fewer features. Unless the schools are supporting the Nspire, there is no point in getting one of these.

I have owned this calculator for roughly one month, and it has been an extremely impressive product. First and foremost, this calculator has CAS capability. For those that do not know, CAS (Compute Algebra System) is an addition to graphing calculators that allows them to manipulate equations by variables as symbols rather than as numbers. This means saying goodbye to factoring, basic algebra, and quite a bit more. It can also integrate and derive indefinites, with weird answers coming up only here and there. For the calculator itself, it looks good, I have yet to drain the battery 30% even after one whole month of use. In addition, the mousepad feature combined with a dpad is pretty neat. While novel, it’s pretty useful. Then, turning to the document based side of this calculator. As with most of the NSpire line, you are able to create documents with various functions. For this one, it has compatibility with graphing, images, text, math, Python program, ti program, tables, and even more. All in all, this is a top of the line device, and truly a godsend for any and all engineering students in college. My one and only caveat, which doesn’t particularly apply to me, but rather to those converting from a Casio, I’d that this calculator isn’t very easy to learn to use to its true potential.

Cons: - Screen is painful to look at; poor anti-aliasing and blurring issues. - A touchpad that makes selecting anything a PITA without accidentally changing the selection. - An enter key that is awkwardly located far from the touchpad. - Math keys are fused into franken-buttons (one key with a dead-space between the sides). - Very poor tactile confirmation that a key is even being pressed. - Cheap Playschool plastic case. - Glued-on rubber anti-slip feet likely to fall off with any regular use. - Not as light as expected despite being thinner. - Trig functions and commonly used constants are found in menus rather than broken out into separate buttons. Inexcusable design choice. - Alphabet keys are, astoundingly, not in standard keyboard order despite being arranged like one. Everyone has a smart phone, why would you not copy that layout? - Despite the beefy processor specs, everything feels sluggish. Noticeable input lag. Pros: - If the screen werent so terrible, the operating system would look good. - Full fledged file handler and tab manager is pleasingly modern. - Its a python interpreter and advanced math engine in a calculator. Thats amazing. Final thought: - TI needs to fire their hardware people for designing that franken-button layout. If the four math keys most used feel like hot garbage, thats a pretty big issue. - The anti-aliasing needs serious reprogramming. No functionality can make up for a screen that causes immediate eye-strain. - Replace the touch-pad with a d-pad. Youd improve the interface and save a couple bucks per unit at the same time.

This is a very powerful and professional calculator. I have been using the TI84 since middle school, and now that I am almost done with college (majoring in mechanical engineering), I thought it was time to upgrade to a more powerful calculator, and I can say that I am very impressed with this calculators abilities. I wish that I had this going through all of my math classes in college. Getting used to the keystrokes is very difficult and will likely take years for me to feel as comfortable as I do currently with my TI84, but it is worth it. I highly recommend this product for someone that is in advanced mathematics (Calc, Lin. Algebra, Differential Eq, Statistics, etc). I would not recommend this to someone in middle school (and maybe even high school) as this is a very advanced calculator and a lot of its features wouldnt even be used by a middle or high schooler. I hope this helps.

I like nearly everything about this calculator, except for the fact that it uses the old school USB charging port of Type B mini. Why in the world did they not finally upgrade to USB Micro or better yet, USB C?! I understand that they standardized with their other products, but at some point, they have to ditch the old. Aside from the charging port, I really like this calculator and highly recommend it. There is a bit of a learning curve to using it as it is quite a bit different from the standard TI-84 and such, but it is way more powerful. The touchpad is also a bit tricky, but usually, it cooperates with me.

I was a loyal HP-fan for 34 years, starting with the HP28s back in college. As an electrical engineer, I progressed through several upgrades up to the HP50g. Then I got the HP Prime, and at first I hated it, so ignored it for almost a year. But then it grew on me, and I kicked myself for not adapting to change sooner. But, there was always something annoying about the Prime, where for every convenience, there were almost two inconveniences. Then I decided to try the TI CX II CAS Student Software trial for 30 days, and I was blown away so I bought the calculator from Amazon! Why, oh why, did I torture myself with HP for so long?!?! Nearly everything about the TI is easier, and despite looking student-centric (which could be interpreted by some as a toy), I promise that this will be your work calculator. The document-based interface is exactly what I needed - I rewrote my HP applications for TI, including a few new ones, in a fraction of the time (the language is easier, the editor more intuitive, and the dedicated keyboard destroys HPs multi-click, illegible color scheme, keyboard). I wont bother looking at HP anymore - Im sticking with TI. There is no way to describe the experience with this calculator here - just buy it and if you dont like it, return it (but you wont!).

The calculator itself is great but the navigation is just not user friendly. I feel the need to try and make the navigator like a laptops trackpad has ruined this calculator for me. It takes me multiple try’s just to click on something since the sensor for the navigation is poorly done. If the interface was done better this would be the best calculator by far but because of this I find it more efficient just to use my TI-89 titanium.
