Honestly, you dont need name brand RAM. That being said, this is a Hynix brand by timetec so its comparable to your OEM RAM type when you purchased you macbook pro. For $89.99 plus tax, this was a deal! As RAM is RAM, as long as the qualifications are met, you dont need to pay more as it offers the same, if not, better performance than the more expensive ones. Installing it in Macbook Pro mid 2012 was a snap, I didnt even need to remove the battery connection. Just discharge your static electricity by touching a metal frame, and blow the dust off your components while its still open. Turning on the macbook pro, I verified that it had 16 gb RAM total. I then performed a Memtest on the RAM (took me 30 minutes) but it verified that the RAM was in good working order and nothings wrong with it. And to top it all off, the product package says MADE IN USA. Other pricey rams are made in China (assembled in USA) or Taiwan or Philippines, but not this one. Im surprised this RAM by TimeTec doesnt get more reviews compared to other companies.

All is well so far! I am a 100% consumer. As much as I like tech and understand lots of it, replacing hardware components, drivers, etc has been outside my wheelhouse. It is a gamble. The wrong item with all its specific specification can fry your computer - at least I think so. So, it is a 100% trust thing with the vendor. Sending it back and getting a refund for a $100 item is meaningless in face of a $1000s of desktop. The alternative at the Apple store was $800 vs the $100 I spent here. The Apple employee recommended to go to the web - and the risk is low. So, I gave it a try! It couldnt have been easier. Both from Apples point of view as well as the many videos on the website. Time will tell though. My Apple memory lasted 6 years, lets hope this does the same.

We bought this ram for our son as a Christmas gift. He was very pleased and will be installing it in his macbook after the holidays.

Works in iMac 2013

The part arrived faster than they said, was in perfect condition, exactly as shown. I installed on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro along with the SSD drive and it is faster than I could have every imagined. Took no time to install, was so easy and fit perfectly. Thanks for the great service.

Been trying to speed up my 2012 MacBook Pro, removing unused software etc, and I wanted to increase the RAM. Reviewed the Apple webpage and it shows how to open the computer, remove and install the new chip. Total time was less than 15 minutes.

Need to give credit to my son Jayson (my computer guy) that suggested the up grade. He found these items on line and directed me to YouTube for installation instructions. You will definitely need a small screwdriver, I mean tiny!
