> 3 dayIt seems to me all these great reviews of the Ubiquiti Unifi APs are false. I bought this AP because of the great reviews it got on Amazon and on different product review sites. Yet, if you read the actual forums on Ubiquiti and other related forums on the internet there is a completely different story told. Droves of consumers are having to RMA Ubiquitis APs because they only seem to function for a very short time. This is exactly what happened to me. I bought this AP last week and got around to setting it up about 3 days ago. First, let me say that I have been a professional network engineer for over 2 decades. This product is overly complicated to setup for an AP...mostly because you will have to scour the internet to find the forum posts that have the solutions to the many problems that will occur during your configuration process. These are not covered in the online documentation and Ubiquiti does not provide phone support, just email support. After I finally got the AP up and running, I left it running for one night. It worked fine...the 5ghz range is a little limited, but otherwise it seemed fine an was passing traffic like a champ. The next morning I unplugged it and moved it downstairs to the datacenter. I plugged it in and it came up fine. Heres what happens though. When it first boots up and connects to the network everything looks ok. If anyone tries to connect to it, it works for a few seconds and then disconnects the wireless connections and the SSID disappears until it is rebooted from the controller...then same thing over and over. Come to find out, this problem is not uncommon. The known solution to this issue is RMA. I actually think its a heat dissipation problem. This little access point, even without anyone connected, gets unusually hot and once you let it cool off, it’s a done deal. Currently trying to return this waste of time product.

> 3 dayI do Internet Protocol analysis and testing for a large networking vendor. I read RFCs and do the IETF dance. I touch a lot, ... a *lot* of gear, as Im on the team that tests the products for protocol compliance. Mostly at home I want a simple experience, something I can setup and abandon. I can see how for someone with no networking knowledge, implementing this could be a chore. The idea of needing a controller to program it seems weird, but ... it doesnt seem weird when you need to control thousands of these. Granted I have just one, most people at home will have just one, but its clearly designed for much bigger networks. The first thing which is a huge tremendous deal is how easy it is to get the controller going. I ran some software, no license keys, trial periods, etc, and it just discovered the AP. I put in my password for the SSID ... I was basically finished. This AP is sensitive. It sees networks I didnt know existed. I was using a WRT1200AC before and ... this thing is lightyears faster. Ive never seen a download over 100Mbps on a wireless connection but ... this thing easily pushes 150Mbps to my VR setup. My Alexa devices used to experience occasional burps, my smart thermostat, my streaming devices. I havent seen a burp yet and its been weeks. At another company I used to deploy these, I had a bad experience pulling a dead unit (it melted) from a ceiling, but this time around I was seriously considering going with Google Wifi until I read it does NAT. Seriously Google? I figured for $80, why not? Would recommend without reservations, this thing is amazing.

> 3 dayDoes a fantastic job. Solved the wifi-range issues with our three story home, and allows everyone to connect whether in the house or the yard. Range is excellent, and its simple enough for most people to hook up. To get the most out of it, youll want to have knowledge and understanding regarding basic networking, and youll want to pair it with a Ubiquiti gateway- however, its meant to be simple enough that anyone can use it, even as a standalone. Its powerful enough that I have turned off the wifi broadcast from my router and let it focus on being the router-gateway for the network. Looks good, works great, and doesnt cost nearly as much as most business end APs.

> 3 dayBe aware, read the fine print at the bottom of the description, this is an OPEN BOX item. You may need to reset the settings and there may be parts missing. I recommend spending a few more dollars and getting a brand new one.

> 3 dayI purchased a couple of these through the manufactures site. I was able to install the devices without much issue...initially. After about a month, the topology map in the software stopped working. I did some research and found that this problem is common and has been going on for 4+ years. WHY!? I was not able to find a solution in the online forum so I decided to uninstall the controller software and do a reinstall. HUGE MISTAKE. After reinstalling, I could not log back into the controller software with the username and password that I used before, and the exact same login credentials that I use on the manufactures site. I did some more research and found that this also is a common problem that has been ongoing for years. I ultimately, had to uninstall the software yet again, factory reset every AP I bought, and do a fresh install of the system. In the end, I got everything back up and running only to find out the topology map quit working yet again. The sad part, there is ZERO customer service for these devices or for the account; no number you can call. I will never buy another Ubiquiti product ever again. This is unacceptable! Dear Ubiquiti, how about you fix the software bugs in your equipment. NOT RECOMENDED!!!!
