Valve Index Full VR Kit (Latest Release) (Includes Headset, Base Stations, & Controllers)

The Valve Index is a fantastic, lightweight, easy to use and easy to setup virtual reality headset. That being said, it costs $800 less if you buy it from Valve. Do not buy this from Amazon, they are ripping you off.

I enjoyed using the VR headset. Most of my time however was spent waiting for restarts and debugging. This product is supposed to officially support Linux, but Valves VR interface hardly works and is an honestly pathetic attempt if you can call it an attempt at all. Shame on Valve for acting like this product works on Linux.

The system is great. The display is super clear, frame rate is great (albeit, I have a powerful system running it). Tracking is spot on, and new features and updates are offered regularly. My friend has an oculus, and his always has connectivity issues, but I have had little to none of that. I am writing this review, because the customer support through steam is awesome. I messaged them about a base station that had a problem, and they immediately responded with tracking information on a replacement and instructions on how to send back my faulty unit. There was no back and forth of troubleshooting, because I mentioned I tried all of the troubleshooting available on the website. Also, no back and forth on if I dropped it or damaged it. I was just amazed that they were so johnny on the spot with providing me a fix for my issue that cost me exactly $0.00. I dont know if you get that same level of support buying it third party, but I wanted to do what I could to support a hardware company that is so good at customer support. Buy directly from steam anyways: its cheaper, and I got mine within 3 days of ordering. I dont mean to damage the Amazon sellers business, but if you do buy from here, make sure the manufacturer warranty stays in tact.

Rip off price.

The elaborate setup for the base stations, and the room setup would have you believe that the tracking is good, but the opposite is true. Controller drift happens way too often, even in a perfectly set up room. The demands for the play area are too large, and as of now, there is zero compatibility to watch VR videos on YouTube and other sites, the main reason that somebody would buy this headset. Steams Media Player also only plays offline files, not able to stream sites that have a VR feature, and the Index does not always interface with whatever web browser youre using. There are incompatibilities with WebXR and other headsets, and getting the Index to be recognized by browsers is basically impossible. Add to this that there are few forums online that adequately address these issues, and it is incredibly frustrating getting this headset to work, and when it does, it is more than janky. I have zero idea why this headset has 4 stars to be honest, and at $1,000+, I cannot recommend this device at all. I would highly recommend saving your money until better headsets come out, and browsers work out their compatibilities with VR headsets.

Great headset but do not buy it on Amazon. Buy it on steam because it is only 1000 on steam.

The product is a 5 star but the sales here is a big NO. Buy it straight from steam. although it takes a min more to wait, its less on the price.
