VMware Fusion 4 [Old Version]

Greater than one weekThis is very slow to boot up, and is not intuitive like Apple products are, but it sure does make my Mac look like a PC. I view the latter as a definite negative, but I need Windows for an IRS tax program. That program runs flawlessly on my Mac-running-Windows.

Greater than one weekIve done the Boot Camp thing but its just too cumbersome to reboot every time I need to run a Windows program for work. Fusion lets me run Windows side by side, and I like it. My Windows-only peripherals work on it too, so its an easy way for me to access them from the Mac side of things, especially using the Unity mode which lets me keep a single Windows application open in an otherwise Mac OS. Some of the animations and graphics are a little superfluous, but overall I like it and it runs great on my 2011 i7 iMac.

> 3 dayI upgraded from fusion 3 and wish I hadnt. Outside of faster boot times, I cant tell the difference in performance, but lost USB support and it no longer automatically releases the mouse when you try to move out of the VMWare window.

05-06-2025I need to use Visio and Access on my MAC, and fusion is a better solution than buy a PC. The version 4 is optimized for Lion, and it looks like use less resources than the previous version, it runs Windows 7 without limitation, and I believe it is faster and I can keep open on a desktop meanwhile working on another, without any problem of memory.

> 3 dayThsi product works just as advertised (which, frankly, is saying a lot these days). I bought it for my son to use in college on his Mac laptop. He also needed to run Windows and this seemed like a good option to the basic Mac installed Boot Camp. I let him install it himself and the reports back are that its working great. Simple to install, simple to use and it runs Windows like its supposed to. No complaints so far.

> 3 dayIm an automotive mechanic. One of my diagnostic tools is Windows-only and connects to vehicles via a USB interface. Booting the Macbook into Bootcamp for diagnostic sessions was a hassle.

> 3 dayUsed VMWare Fusion 4 on the Mac and the integration into the desktop as well as the seamless performance is the best that one can hope for. Very good stability, copy/paste functionality, and graphics. If you own a Mac you should definitely own this product for the occasional Windows program. I found it critical to use for MS Office during work activities for the greatest document exchange compatibility as well as the more robust Outlook version.

> 3 dayI switched to MacBook Pro from PC laptops (Windows) about 2 years ago and at this time Ive got nothing running on Windows that I need anymore. What does this have to do with this product? Not much except Ive now uninstalled it - so I think its a fair comment to say that these bootcamp type solutions are being needed less and less these days. At least, thats my experience. But if you need one, this works fine - no issues.
