> 3 dayReceived it in good condition, no scratches. Cable was in the box. No issues with connecting to my laptop, just plug and go, as it said! Immediately used it to back up my laptop (~250 GB worth of data) with absolutely no issues. Pros: Tiny little thing. Fits easily in ant slide around too easily while in use. This is a very good thing for a hard drive, because movement while in use can ruin one pretty easily, e drawer for safe storage until needed. Had feet on it, so the drive didspecially if its jerky. Feet had enough friction to prevent accidentally knocking it off a desk. Cons: None that I can really think of. Have only owned it a month, havent had any issues at all though.

> 3 dayThis is a great device to have especially if youre upgrading to a new Windows or new computer. This will store and back up all of your computer valuables that you may not want to loose. You can drag and drop things into this drive, and you can also set it up where it will automatically back your stuff up. One thing I ran into when installing the apps that came with it was when it offered to update it would end up never finishing. So what I did was tell it to update later and finish installing the apps. After the apps are installed and you attempt to open one it will it will ask again, and at this time the updates should work. Overall, great product, I havent had any issues with it yet.

> 3 dayFantastic external hard drive, legitimately one of the best portables out there. BUT make sure youre purchasing a new one, not from a 3rd party seller or any nonsense. I ordered a second one after my first and #2 came completely DOA. I cant be sure, but I think it actually installed some malware on my computer after not being detected by Windows, as MBAM came up with 3 new hits after I realized it was dead. The whole thing was very fishy, the box was in terrible condition, and honestly I shouldve looked at the listing a little better.. But the first one has been fantastic! Overall, that was my fault and not WDs fault. This external is great for portable storage. The read/write speed isnt the best but thats not really what you should be using an external for anyway -- at least until the tech catches up there.. Definitely like the form factor, and at 1TB/60$ its really worth it just to see how itll suit your needs. I mostly use it for bringing music to/from work, and its very easy to load up n go. The second one I wanted to purchase was going to just be to backup the first one for longer-term storage. Ive since re-ordered a legitimate one and hopefully things go better. tldr: Watch out for whos shipping the listing, everything changes depending on size/color/etc.. I fell for a jape.

08-06-2025I originally purchased this to use with my Macbook Pro. I loved it so much that when my Mom got a new Macbook Pro for her birthday I got this for her too. We both love it! It is so small, much different than the external drives I am used to from the past. I still have an old one connected to an older computer that is at least 3 times the size of this one and it needs to be plugged into an outlet. This one doesnt need to be plugged into an outlet. It transfers files very fast. It is formatted to work with a Windows computer out of the box. However setting it up to work with a Mac is very easy using the following steps: ● Plug My Passport into your Mac with the provided USB cable ● Open Disk Utility ● Select this hard drive on the left side list of drives ● In the center area click on Erase ● Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) ● Type what you want to name the drive ● Click Erase. I recommend this drive if youve got a Macbook or a Windows computer and are looking for an external drive thats easy to take along with you, although its just as good if sitting on a desk. Either way, I love this external drive!!

> 3 dayOverall it is good product. Failed after over 2 yrs (almost 3 yrs). During these years, I have to let windows repair it and re-format 3 time to re-use it. At the end, I download hard drive tools form wd site to test. The tool said it good, passed but can not performed the extended test. Bad tools.

> 3 dayI am not a person who knows a lot about computers so I cant tell you about the technical side of this. I bought it because I know my computer is old and is going and I dont want to loose all my pictures and other files when it does. This is my first time using one of these and I find it very easy to use from the day I received it. It comes with the USB cord so I had nothing extra I had to buy. I can now keep a copy of my files (adding the new ones periodically) in a safe spot and access them from another computer if I had to without bothering my children to come over to do it. I had no problems with it (no errors) and love the peace of mind that even when the computer stops working, I still have all my things.

> 3 dayGood drive, reasonably fast (if plugged into a USB 3.0 port). Ive been using TrueCrypt to encrypt my portable drives so far, and I wanted to try the WD Ultra because of its hardware encryption. From a quick research Ive done (before ordering the drive), its not 100% bulletproof and some university researchers found a few security holes and exploits. But unless youre protecting something from the NSA, its good enough. When you enable the hardware encryption enabled, the drive will show up as a CD in Windows when you plug it in. On that (virtual) CD, there is an executable which will prompt you for the password and will unlock the actual drive (which shows up as an additional drive in Windows). Its an easy process, does not require any third-party software, all in all it does what its supposed to do.

Greater than one weekThis is generally a good hard drive. Its fast and operates just like a hard drive should. Unfortunately, it failed after only 3 years of having it. The spindle motor had broken on the inside and it would not function. Which is pretty unfortunate, to say the least, because Ive had the hard drive in my laptop and my desktop for significantly longer and both of those drives still work. I had only bought the 2 year data recovery plan too, so I had to pay $1.2k to get all of my data off the hard drive. This is a good drive to get as long as you back up all your stuff on a different drive as well, or on cloud storage or something. Dont expect it to last more than 3 years. If it does, then thats great. I would invest the extra cash into a Solid State Drive, but if you need a cheap option for storage, this drive is just fine

08-06-2025Ive had an old WD back-up drive (thankful I never had to use it) and while it lived a long life, it always seemed to be a little less than cooperative with Time Machine in backing up my Mac laptop, plus it was slow, painfully slow (I said it was old, right?). Add to that, it was just bulky enough to made toting it a bit of a pain. Anyway, it eventually failed, even with a total reformatting of the drive, so based on the other reviews, I opted for this newer version. This new drive is super sweet! Its just that much smaller so be more easily portable and its less weighty than my old drive. I had it running and backing up within minutes. For Mac users, you will need to reformat the disk to use Time Machine. You dont need to do any special, youll be prompted along the way. It took about 14 hours for the first back-up, but since it runs in the background I didnt notice one iota of lag. I also noticed this drive stays nice and cool. Thanks WD, great improvements on an already fine product!

Greater than one weekDead simple to use, very compact to make it portable...its really a good drive. I dont even notice its in my bag, and the fact that it runs entirely off USB means no additional (and bulky) power supply. I have to confess to being surprised at how inexpensive mass storage has become...1 TB is really quite a bit of space at this price point. Installation is so easy as to be trivial - on a Windows 7 machine, I just plugged it in...the drive was recognized immediately and ready to go in about 2 minutes. Data transfer is speedy enough to support watching movies. My major nit is all the crap that is on the drive. Frankly, Im not going to use something like this for automatic backups...for me this is a portable drive, not really something thats going to be plugged in all the time. I didnt need nor want any of the applications on the drive, so I just deleted them all. Anyway, a good drive, especially for the money. I like it a lot.
