There is no reason to not be backing up your data, and there is no reason to not be using the WD My Passport Ultra to do so. Not only is it incredibly simple to use, but it is slick and beautiful as well (especially the new white model). No matter what size you need, they have you covered and have kept the prices as affordable as you will see for such a fantastic item. My favorite feature(s) have to be the data encryption, and the fact that it is so easily portable. Both of those are selling points to me, and they nailed them. My experience: Packaged well and without excess wasted materials. I had to set it up differently to work on my MacBook Pro, than someone with a PC, but it was painless and I was up and running in 10 minutes or less. The drive has worked flawlessly and has brought peace of mind back once again after not having a functioning external hard drive for far too long. Looks great, works perfectly, keeps your data secure, and is easily portable. 5/5 Stars and highly recommended!

Very nice. I use it as an external backup for my small email server on a Windows 10 machine. I enabled BitLocker for full disk encryption on it and connected it via USB port and enabled Windows File History backup on it. So far works really well. CON: One downside is that if you have an older computer, Windows XP for instance, this drive will not work with it. I learned it the hard way. Luckily I had another (newer) computer to use it there instead. CON2: The drive does not have a power supply. Which is good if you want to save space and a wire clutter. But it is also bad if your USB port is underpowered.

I recently found myself faced with the dilemma of having to send my Xbox One in for repair, thankfully while still under warranty. The notion of loosing all my saved games or having to download them all again via the WWW was unpalatable to say the least. So I decided to move all the data I could from the Xbox before shipping it off to Microsoft to this HDD. Glad I did, because my Xbox came back set up as a brand new unit, even though the unit that came back was the same exact unit I sent in. Couldnt be happier with the space, speed and the drive in general. It is completely powered via the Xbox USB port so no need for an external power supply. The Xbox recognized the drive and I just had to format the drive for use with the Xbox before I could start storing data. Im very happy with it and and wouldnt hesitate to make the purchase again, plus I now have the added bonus of 2TB of storage, which I was having to delete things previously from the internal HDD to make room for new games.

I use this for docs, videos and pics backups from my laptop. Not sure if it has a program to assist, but I do it manually every so often. Still going strong after 6 years. Just found out I could use with my Samsung TV to view files/movies. Had to download WD Security application to remove password protection before it would be recognized by TV. Great product.

I had gotten this hard drive for my Xbox One and was concerned that the setup would be difficult, but it was INSANELY easy. For 2 TB, I am able to have all my games on my hard drive and easy to access using the Kinect. Additionally, the moment I plugged it in the Xbox gave me a prompt to set up the Hard drive which was simply giving it a name, naturally I went with Watson, due to my XBones increased capacity to remember and feel emotion. After that it asks if you want to use it as a default hard drive, and since mine was pretty full I said yes, so now all my games and everything downloads there. No need for additional outlets, takes only a minute to set up. Very satisfied with this purchase. (I would not go higher than 2 TB, because this will slow down the xbox, supposedly)

Easy to set up, data transfer seems very fast. This external hard drive is used as a backup on three computers and goes readily from one to the other. I have had a WD external drive for several years and it has been completely dependable. It is just not large enough to keep the backups from three computers, especially since my wife loves to take LOTS of pictures and since she got an i-Phone, the necessary disk space has expanded greatly. I also like this color, as it really stands out from all the other black computer paraphernalia around my desks.

I have had WD internal drives before and had pretty good luck with them and I needed an external drive and decided to give this one a go. I got the 1 TB version and am fairly pleased with it. The transfer rate is definitely fast and I like that it is powered by the USB port rather than needing a separate power adapter. The security features I do not use so I cannot speak of them. I marked it down simply because I somehow believed that this was a solid state drive when in fact it is not and I think that should be made clearer in the product description as that is what I really wanted. But, I will keep this one as it is pretty good for the price.

Identical in size to other My Passport drives, but exactly reversed. The connector is on the opposite side of the drive from all my other Passports. I got this one to replace one that just stopped working after 3 years. The only negative is that if you are buying this drive for color (red for secured, black for unsecured, etc.) you will be disappointed. Only the top cover of the drive has color. The rest of the drive is black. Kinds looks stupid and doesnt in any way let you set it on a shelf with other drives and immediately differentiate them by color. You barely see the color from the side of the drive and not at all from the back.

I recently purchased this specifically for backing up my desktop and so far Im on the fence about it (thus 3 stars). The drive itself is nice but the software that comes with it is less than stellar. Pros (IMHO): * Its small, sleek, and has a nice design. * No problems connecting - Im running Windows 7 and my computer recognized it immediately. * It comes with its own converter cord (USB 2.0 to 3.0). * It has a ridiculous amount of space on the drive that I cant possibly fill up (which is a good thing). * Price seemed fair. Cons: * The backup software sucks. The program took forever to install and once installed it didnt come with any sort of instructions. I told it to start the backup and nothing happened. Tried a second time and still the same. I had to uninstall it and reinstall to get it to start working. Even then theres no way to actually know its DOING anything except by looking at the amount of space used on the drive or by going through and hand-checking the WD Backup folder (which is tedious). I MUCH prefer the Norton backup that shows green arrows on everything that has been backed up. * Its also ridiculously slow AND it slows down my computer. It took almost all day to complete the backup and while it was running I kept getting notifications about high CPU usage due to the drive. Ive never had a problem with my computer running slow - internet surfing, streaming, gaming - all fine. This little drive made my computer feel like it was wading through mud. Odd. Overall: I like the actual drive but I hate the backup software. I have no idea if the backup/restore actually works and I hate that I spent $59 on something that I have no confidence in. Im just crossing my fingers and hoping I never actually need the thing (knock on wood).

Works as advertised and expected. Perfect for what I need to store and backup all my movies, music, documents, pictures.... Love how compact it is...it can easily fit in my pocket and weighs only 0.4 LBS. It comes with 18 USB 2.0/3.0 compatible data cable and works flawlessly right out of box, no driver, no software, no special setup required to run. This hard drive is USB powered from your PC or devices connected to so there is no AC cord/adapter required. Also I like its 3 year warranty, much longer warranty than 1 year warranty I typically get for other similar products. It works great with all of my devices I did tested with...Xbox, Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows XP, Macbook. It wont work on smart phones nor tablets. This is not a solid state drive (SSD) if you are looking for one. It also comes with the software to password protect and auto backup your files on this external hard drive. There is a protective case you can buy to protect this device but it is not included with the purchase.

WD brings you the My Passport Ultra in a sleek and powerful device. 1TB of storage in a portable hard drive with the option to use cloud backup with Dropbox. Fast and easy connectivity using USB 3.0. Formatted NTFS for Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 operating systems. Requires reformatting for Mac OS. Compatibility may vary depending on user"s hardware configuration and operating systems. Portable Drive cases are available and sold separately. Compatible with: Mac
